Ultra Street Fighter IV

I can always count on JLM to agree with my opinions because I get most of them from him in the first place.

I've been thinking about Marvel recently. I want to write a thing about a couple of details from Marvel at Evo but I haven't had time, and I bought the DLC characters last week but haven't played the game since then, and I'm unlikely to actually play it for at least another couple of weeks. Still, Marvel has been on my mind. If anyone wants to play in a couple of weeks, just shout.

Ha, I will. Are you still thinking of coming down for the SFO tournament? It is on the 28th.

Also re: Marvel, I'm not sure what I'd like to see changed. A sensible thing would be having Morrigan either not gain meter during Astral Vision or at least gain less meter during it, but I personally enjoy just how strong it is and watching people struggle/fail to beat it. I don't think it can/should adhere to any of the same rules as Streetfighter regarding fairness and balance because It's Mahvel.

Here is Desk doing Akuma's ultra 2 from standing without teleport cancelling:

FINALLY!!!!!!

Back to 3,000PP :D

After getting as low as 1575PP trying to learn Guile and Adon, I decided to stop pissing around and get back in the lab with the Hawkster with 2 goals in mind, 3,000PP and back to 10,000BP after going as low as 8,800BP.

Mission complete! What a long hard slog that was.

Nicely done Sith! It's scary how fast it starts dropping once you get over 2,800; every unexpected mashing lunatic becomes a threat.

As much as I try to swear off ranked and never touch it again, I do find it's been really handy as a warm up for attending tournaments because you get used to playing in a very short set and trying not to get flustered. My current goal is 4,000PP, simply because I've played against plenty of 3,500 pp users of top tier characters and found them to be disappointingly poor players when they should be as good as or better than me. Currently on just over 3,400, which is the highest it's been in AE, and any loss now will take several wins to make up.

Donut, I would play on PSN but I'd need to dual-mod my stick or buy another one and I don't have the funds at present. If this situation changes I will be looking to fight you, or alternatively some kind of IRL fighter event should happen some time soon.

I think I'm going to have to start with the next one :-( sadly we vastly underestimated the scale of our house moving task and are still in a bit of a mess. If the situation changes sufficiently then I'll know on Saturday if I can make it over, and if they don't have space in the bracket I'll just pop over and inconspicuously coach you and/or try and get some casuals in.

I don't really think Morrigan is toooo broken, though I can understand people who want to play rubbish characters complaining about it being impossible to get in on her - but I think maybe those people should just pick better characters. It's probably Hidden Missiles that needs adjusting, and if they can do something about that then it would make her fair. Maybe more recovery and/or startup time where Doom's hittable? I don't really want to see them reduce the number of missiles or anything because it's just so styling when people do silly stuff with them.

I do think that Zero's buster/teleport mixup is too strong at the moment and they need to do something to balance him (something other than reducing his health, because as he has shown already your life bar rarely matters in a game where every player has kill combos). I think Vergil's X Factor buffs could be adjusted marginally. I think infinites should stay in. I would like to see maybe the worst ten characters get some minor tweaks, but nothing too huge - just enough to get people to experiment with them again and work out that they're not actually as weak as they seem once you do the work (is that optimistic? Maybe).

Oh, and I guess they can take away Spencer's unscaled 80k :-(

Ah that's a shame. On the plus side I think Benners and one or two others who can't make this month's will be back for August's, so that one may be more hype than this month's anyway.

Buffs for the characters who are currently irrelevant in Marvel would certainly be the best thing. I'd be up for a few of them getting some more interesting/useful assists to encourage people to pick them up.

Personally I'd like to see Vergil removed entirely as I find him devastatingly dull, but yeah, toning down his X-factor buffs would be nice. He's a much more interesting character to me when used on point or in the second spot like DJ Huoshen and WhiteBlack. Currently he's this version's vanilla Wesker equivalent for many players except much, much more potent. If he has meters for swords (poor man's Ouroborous but at the cost of just one meter and still useful without X-Factor!) then he's super dangerous even witout X-Factor, so toning down the damage boost would be reasonable.

Agreed about hidden missiles being a bigger issue than Morrigan herself, but I do still think Morrigan gaining full meter during an install super is silly. I definitely agree that I'd rather see people figure out ways to beat it than nerfing it though.

With Zero yeah that mix up is silly and they could also adjust some of his multi-hitting normals so you can at least occasionally get an X-Factor guard cancel against him and make him put a bit of thought into his pressure game. He's a high execution character but a lot of what he does to get the hit is entirely brainless and again makes him a little dull.

I'd leave TAC infinites alone too. Generally I would have no qualms whatsoever with the game being left as it is.

Cheers mate. I got to over 2,800PP several times and then I'd lose to someone with under 2,000PP because of sheer randomness and lose a deflating 100PP in the process.

It was grueling at times!

Well done Sith, I think I managed to get above 1000 once a long time ago so getting all the way up there is really awesome.

I just have a Real Life X Street Fighter moment, we use Lynx at work (basically MSN Messenger) which links into our phones and stuff and we are allowed to put a picture of ourselves up as our avatar.

Anyway I did this a while back but one of my managers asked me today where I had got mine from as she like the style of the artwork (it is a cartoon style). She thought I had uploaded a picture of myself somewhere to get it converted.

This is my avatar at work

I nearly went for a full explanation but bottled it and said it was just a character from a video game.

You realise you have to post a picture of yourself now?

Preferably doing taunt number nine.

And I sympathise. I was incredibly excited in the run up to EVO, but of course couldn't tell any colleagues that I wouldn't be sleeping so I could watch people play videogames in Las Vegas:(

Edit: Oh, and no new Ryu info? Sort it out guys.

Every Halloween Ryu dresses up as himself.

GentlemanBoxer :D

I don't know what's up with XBL tonight. Shit is just not working, I can't send a friends request.

Friend of mine who lives quite close has been having similar problems all day but mines been fine. I've never been sure how that works.

Finally been able to read the thread since my self-imposed Evo exile.

Things:

I watched so much Evo. Pretty much every streamed match in AE pools, all quarters and semis, Persona top 8 (very enjoyable), KOF top 8 (wicked), Marvel top 8 (probably the highlight hype-wise if I'm honest) and then AE top 8 (very good). I didn't fair very well with Injustice and Smash Brothers. I tried but they're not for me.

Nuskool's Evo pics are truly excellent.

I am crushed that Donut is no longer on Live and imp will not bother renewing either. I know I hardly ever play and were it not for Netflix needing a Live sub (not impressed) I would let mine expire too but it's sad that those guys won't be about in the future.

Excellent Ryu jokes all.

:)
