Ultra Street Fighter IV

JLM

I may have been too light with the sarcasm there.

SO hype.

Anyway, I've just secured some *cough cough* for the first time in a while, I have cider and camembert, and Monday off work. Back to AE pools. Fuckin' EVO.

Yes. Looks like he tries both uppercut FADC and EX Condor Spire into Ultra 2. That would be amazing if it works. There's also an attempt at DeeJay's slide juggled into EX Upkicks? Didn't connect but might have been timing. Ultra 1 looks to have been sped right up.

Yang got his crossup mk too! Good for him. Looks like they've increased the range on his command grab too? Maybe just the EX version?

Yeah the speed and distance on Dee Jay's U1 looks buffed.

I thought slide into EX upkicks was already possible, though I tend to do it with regular upkicks so not sure off hand. Not sure exactly what he was showing off there because that counter hit fierce causing a juggle state is already in the current version, just nobody uses it. Perhaps they're making the hitbox/hurtbox on the fierce better so it's more useful for that purpose, or maybe it's getting additional juggle properties. Not sure.

I thought the difference might be that it was an anti-air (crouching/standing hard punch?) juggled with slide and then EX Upkicks. I didn't know that was already possible.

I can't tell whether or not it's Alistarr posting, or radlord.

Also, when they programmed Ryu to do a tick throw... what was that demonstrating? Fei being unable to counter it with... what?

This is Jellingham. Allystah is currently sleeping upstairs and coming back for Marvel Semi-finals in a bit. I don't think you can juggle both things after that fierce in the current version. so I think you're right there. Looks fun, but yeah, they'd need to make that fierce a stronger/more reliable anti-air too as Dee Jay players rarely use it at the moment.

It is nice to see Yang doing cross up MK again. His rekka - > rekka - > FADC - > MK launcher resets will be back to their old potency but without all the other broken Yang stuff. Excellent.

He has EX Upkicks. There's no need for anything else.

I'm watching the KoF finals. Mr. Karate sure does play a lot like Dan. I always thought he was a parody of Robert from Art of Fighting? I know very little about all those SNK games.

I'm looking forward to the drip-feed of info on this new version of Street Fighter. I genuinely do hope it'll also be on Wii U.

Dan is like Ryo Sakazaki (AOF's Ryu) with Robert Garcia's hair. Takuma Sakazaki/Mr. Karate is Ryo Sakazaki's dad and the Gouken of the AOF series. Dan has the alt. costume with the tengu mask because his dad wore one, much like Mr. Karate does in the SNK games.

Dan's outfit is pretty much a replica of that in pink. He even has the little under shirt thing.

Also Ryo Sakazaki constantly harps on about his dad's style being the strongest and wanting to make sure their style is seen as the strongest and all that jazz.

I just had a mess about in training mode and it does appear that slide into EX upkicks with Dee Jay is impossible, so that would be a buff even without the back + fierce juggle aspect. Trying to get that back + fierce to cause the juggle state is a nightmare, so I think they may also be demonstrating a better hitbox, the move causing counter hit a bit lower down than currently and also the move travelling forward a bit when he does it. It needs all of those things for it to be of any use and that clip made it look somewhat useful.

In Street Fighter Alpha 2 when Dan challenges Ken, Ken says 'What Art of Fighting is this?'

I'm going with the 5th character being Ingrid from Capcom Fighting Jam. It's the only character I can think of that hasn't been in a 'Street Fighter' game yet would probably fit into the universe

I heard the fifth character is Carlito.

Joffocakes the last alistarr post was the one that says "YES" about the prospect of buying another disc with street fighter 4 on it. All the interesting ones were JLM.

Yatagarasusuragamatayagatarasuwhatever is indeed the most fun. You all know that it has online play and costs less than £10, right?

I did laugh a little when they announced the disc release would come with all of the DLC costumes to help tournament organisers setup with everthing from the start and then go on to announce pre-order dlc costumes a few slides later for the new characters creating the problem again

Orange clad soldier with stick? I'm in.

Street Fighter 4 was released in early 2009 and we're still getting new characters going into early 2014. AMAZING. My Xbox TE will be five years old when it Hyper/Ultra whatever comes on. Jeez!

Wasn't too disappointed that most the new characters are from SFxT since this game plays differently enough to justify that but I am a bit disappointed to hear that the new stages will be SFxT stages. I was really hoping for something new there; some reimagined Alpha 2 stages would have been wonderful.

I wonder which versions they'll support now online? Will there be choices for SSFIV, SSFIV AE and the new version, reverting to the the most recent common version opposing players have?

There are still terrible players to be found if you play regular SSFIV rather than AE in ranked. I doubt there will be many completely new players picking up this version unless they do something particularly clever with its marketing (I still suspect a PS4/Xbox One version. Probably Free To Play) so online is likely to be a pretty dangerous place. Oh man. Even more new achievements to feel obligated to get too, I guess. I wonder if, with all this talk of new modes, they'll actually bother to create trials for the new characters? I'd appreciate that.

There's definitely enough knowledge there now for them to create a proper training mode that rivals Skull Girls' in teaching the game and the genre's fundamentals, as well as some of the more advanced quirks. I think it's really important for fighting games to make that effort in future because people who don't already have the drive to learn on their own will drop the game, and future fighting games, after chucking a few fireballs at the CPU and reaching Seth.

I'm looking forward to the new characters having ten taunts instead of one.

Also also, in a couple of tweets Ono mentioned being saddened by something said at the Killer Instinct Panel. Did anyone see any clarification as to what he meant by that?

Whatever happened to that Capcom character poll from February eh? Where's my Q and R.Mika? ;)

Also I missed my chance to post my Strekken Evo reaction image, although that's only because I've missed most of the action and so I don't know if it's appropriate... :P

EDIT:

I used to have CFJ but didn't play it enough before I ditched it in a clearout. :( That said, I enjoy playing Ingrid in SF Alpha 3 Max and I think she got one of my votes in the aforementioned poll...
