Ultra Street Fighter IV

In other news, Divekick's been dated and priced for PS3/Vita: August 20th, $10. Earlier today I used my remaining Game reward card points to top up my PSN balance, so I'm already prepared. I believe it'll support cross-play as well, so hopefully I can fight with PS3 mans too. :)

Announcements can be found in the below clip - also, I noticed at about 32m they have a blue suit/red cape combo for Mr.N, which I kind of suggested during the Kickstarter offers, so yay :D

Combofiend and Mike Ross' commentary absolutely cracks me up. They commentate like they're standing in an arcade behind the guys playing; whispering, whooping and laughing a running commentary of the action.

I'd say so, but the following may be of interest:

Actually, it looks like the archive isn't locked down yet:

http://www.twitch.tv/srkevo1/b/429460523

You will have to buffer separate 30 minute chunks in different browser windows if you want to ensure you can get it all before it become subscriber-only, though, which might not be worth the effort just to save £7 or whatever.

It's still there at the moment so you could just get watching and see how you get on.

This is Jellum again.

I stayed up all the way til the end of pools and kept having to make difficult decisions about which stream to watch when two hype matches were on at the same time.

PR Rog vs Infiltration was amazing. I always want PR Rog to win, partly because he is an amazing talent but mostly because he wears his heart on his sleeve and you can see how much the big wins and losses mean to him. I was very annoyed with him for picking Fei first game as he very famously overcame his Akuma demons to beat Tokido and I knew he could get it done with Boxer against Infiltration. You could tell he'd been grinding hard for this when he did the EX upper loop with the crouching medium pageunch link in there for extra damage and stun. Lovely stuff.

Quite the frosty atmosphere at the end of Laugh vs. Infiltration. I loved the shot of them reading their phone notes about each other before they had their match. It was like that scene from The Wire where Avon and Stringer meet up to reminisce, each knowing that they have sold the other down the river. Immense performance from Laugh all tournament; he's always been good but I didn't have him pegged as an Evo top 16 finisher.

Loved seeing both Wolfkrone and Latif eliminated before top 8, though Louffy losing to Wolfkrone made me sad as he had chances to win it.

Also thoroughly enjoyed seeing the last of the Cammy army vanquished. Haitani vs Dakou was incredible, with Haitani getting mauled by Cammy derpage for 90% of the set but turning any sliver of opportunity into max damage and stun. Thrilled to see him in top 8 for SF4 as he's one of the Japanese gods and it seems right, but also very happy to see Makoto in there as she's far too good and far too exciting to be missing from the late stages of tournaments. I was still rooting for Snake Eyes against Daigo and he is so godlike that he made me believe he could do it for a while there. I'd love to see a longer set between those two.

Gamerbee beating Poongko and finishing him off with a needlessly stylish combo was beautiful. Poongko looked to be at his terrifying best at times but it ended up being dropped combos costing him as much as anything.

Alex Valle losing largely due to execution errors was heartbreaking.

Two Akumas in top 8 is a tiny bit disappointing, but you can't expect the whole top tier to be absent I suppose. I hope Sako leans towards Evil Ryu rather than Ibuki in top 8, but he'll be spectacular to watch either way. I don't mind who wins out of him and Xian as I'm a big fan of both. I'd like to see PR Rog over Tokido, Daigo over Infiltration and Haitani over Gamerbee.

My order of preference for tournament winner goes:

Haitani

PR Rog

Daigo

Xian/Sako

Gamerbee

Tokido/Infiltration.

What a superb tournament it was, and I still have a whole bunch of archived stuff to watch. Also, 3 out of 5 sets on Sunday. Yes.

Not looking at any posts - I have been watching AE pools. On the hottest day of the year. It's because I lived in Spain guys, I know it's crazy to go out in this heat. That's the reason.

I fucking love Mike and Combo. I also don't get the hate for James Chen, he's so nice :(

That twitch tv stream 1 archive turns into other games after a while then reverts back to SSFIV quarter final qualifiers. Can't find an archive of stream 3 which is where SF pools were being shown for a while. Guess I'll just watch from qf qualifiers. My little boy is watching with me :)

Apparently it got cancelled yesterday because they ran out of time :-(

Marvel pools got switched from FT2 to FT3 just now - midway through the pools - which seems like a bad idea. It should have been FT3 all along but you can't just change the rules halfway through the tournament, when a bunch of people have already competed under the original rules! But I suppose if you're going to do something unfair, you might as well do it with Marvel.

Back on topic I just checked Steam and Nathan has bought me a game! Thank you! Will we play it together some time soon?

I've got a Chivalry trading card. What the hell does that mean?

I also haven't bought anything in the Steam sale yet.

Sadly Joffo, it means you are a nerd.

I have bought Dyad for £2.99, Surgeon Simulator 2013 for £2.50ish and Ys I+II Chronicles for £4ish. I think you'd like Surgery Simulator Joffo, it's pretty much the most hilarious game I've played since Chivalry.

I completed Red Dead Redemption a few nights back. You've just got to believe, Joffo.

I also decided I should really complete Portal and only had two levels to finish from when I played it yeeeeears ago. I completed one of them. I'll probably do the other in three years time.

And I started playing Jeanne D'Arc on the PSP but soon realised I was just kidding myself.

Then Ginga Force arrived. And I dug out a load of NES games and played Ice Climber for 10 minutes.

Worst 'gamer' ever.

I've put about 70 hours into Animal Crossing, which is the most I've put into any game that's not Street Fighter in a while. Unfortunately it's not a game you can really complete, so no closure. The only game I finished was Max Payne 3, which was pretty excellent. I really should have played Vanquish, Mirror's Edge and Anarchy Reigns for the extra hour or two they'd have taken to finish.

I played Red Dead Redemption too; I mostly just wandered around in the wild and thoroughly enjoyed it. Didn't complete any missions beyond getting to the wee town. Got a bit annoyed when I walked out into the water and suddenly died with no warning.

ALSO! FIVE NEW CHARACTERS FOR AE!

Poison, Hugo, Elena, Rolento and another "mystery" character to be revealed later? Probably Alex I guess. Makes sense to bring the SFxT folks over I guess. I hope they don't mess up anything!

ALSO! FIVE NEW CHARACTERS FOR AE!

Wait, wat?

EDIT:

Capcom announced at the Street Fighter panel at EVO 2013 that five new characters and six new stages are going to make it into the next Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition 2012 update.

The new characters are the four from Street Fighter x Tekken: Rolento, Elena, Hugo and Poison. The fifth character is a brand new one that has never been seen in a Street Fighter game before, which does not exclude the possibility of it being from another Capcom franchise.

This is a DLC download which will cost 15$. The release date is unknown.

Changes:

General

- Capcom is aware of unblockables and attempting to fix them, no details on how yet.

Ken:

- Faster walk speed

- Standing Light Punch combos into Crouching Hard Kick

- Ultra 1 does more damage when it connections without the full animation playing.

Dudley:

- Short Swing Blow has throw invincibility.

- He's been given better hit boxes on his attacks.

- Farther range on his Ultra 2.

E. Honda

Ultra 2 has more range.

Ultra 1 has a faster start up.

Jump MP has a smaller hurt box.

Ibuki

I dunno, I'm getting that from Twitter so I guess it's not at all reliable. I'm just overly excited.

Not by Chun Li's EX flip kick breaking armour though, that sounds custom-built for destroying me.

EDIT: Shoryuken are reporting it now too, but again I think their source is twitter. Fifth character never seen in series before... I guess they've been in something else then, otherwise they'd say all new, right? Haggar maybe. Or Strider? MEGAMAN, for no reason. I hope it's Gene. I always hope it's Gene.

Anyway, those changes make sense. JLM was already talking about Short Swing Blow being throw invincible. Makes sense since its primary purpose seems like it should be punishing throw attempts. Ken getting his standing light punch into sweep back is good for him too, and lets him stay in your face.

Ibuki only getting hard knockdown from EX neckbreaker is a good change and should make her post-knockdown game less mindless. She's an interesting character with a lot of unique normals and situational combos so it'd be nice to see more of that rather than routine neckbreaker/kunai vortex setups.

I wonder how much fast T Hawk's walk speed is? The crouching medium kick being cancellable is good; it's a fun, long, low normal so it'll be interesting to see what it can combo into practically.

Also also, haha Fei.

Reducing Cammy's damage and stun is probably the best choice they could have made. I'd have maybe wanted a link here or there tightened up since it seems she rarely drops anything (which is a shame since landing the Sako Combo back in the day was a bit o' flash) but at least the lessened stun should give opponents an extra chance to guess correctly and stop her momentum

The range on Balrog's Ultra 2 was dreadful, so it's good that it's being increased, probably to normal throw rage? Haha. I doubt anyone will use it still.

E Honda's j.mp already has a really odd and small hurtbox; it's one of the few moves I've seen beat DeeJay's cr.hk slide cleanly. It ought to be a useful tool for Honda players on the offensive, whoever they are.
