Ultra Street Fighter IV

One button Oni is overpowered.

By the end I had trained them both, like pavlovian dogs, to leap into the sky after a gief cl.mp, which for some reason I don't think I ever blizzarded after. ig had utterly failed to train me not to jump, and alistarr had trained me to never pick gief against anyone with a good hk.

Haha, that is already my instinctive response to seeing a cl.MP - you would've got a free blizzard the very first you tried it on me! I actually cheered "Blizzard!" one of the last times you did it because I thought you knew Ig had just decided to start jumping away.

Next time we're doing divekick characters only.

What time does it all start? I have lunch at 12 and I'm working just round the conrer. Won't make the tournament stuff. Might pop round just after I finish at 15:45, but not for too long. Mostly just for StreetPasses, ha. I only have a one day weekend and I've barely seen the girl I fancy all week so it'll be promptly back to Shawlands world and a cosy wee easter sunday too, as much as I'd like to watch the finals. Is there a stream?

Think it started at half 10, I'm heading there soon and its on till late cos Ready Up are hosting a quiz (think I'm involved in this). There should be a stream, if I get the link I will chuck it up on here. Come say hello if you are about! And Shawlands is the best for the pretty ladies, not just cos I live there :P

Who wants to do some Sagat mirrors today?

I swear at one point near the end you can hear Jellum speaking through the internet, saying "I respect that".

Also I love the phrase "Yoloh my days!"

I went and paid £20 to play Street Fighter for three matches. Played Big Lee's T Hawk in three best of threes and lost 2 - 1 as Dan. Using Hustle Crowe's Chun Li TE stick. I got my picture taken holding it, so I look forward to my fraudulent face on the internet. I did not see a single Caz in the entire place. I did see a the back of Dawgtanian as he did a Focus Absord anti air cancel into El Fuerte's Super. It was pretty nice.

Daftie. I'll be back in at about four for a wee bit. Not too long but I need to justify that £20. Oof. For one day's spectating in a sweaty wee conference room? Mental. Still, I have an addiction; needs must and all that.

I'll probably watch the stream a bit. If only to constantly call Hustle Crowe Alan Carr. Did The Shend not come up for 3rd Strike? I think I saw The Chef there.

EDIT: I got nine Street Passes too!

Well me and Curtis were holding it downon Xbox Live last night; we opened the lobby up for randoms but there weren't that many people who wanted to stick around. As usual, my careless rushdowns saw me get repeatedly beaten and I only won matches when playing as Blanka, but it was still good fun. There was a nice match with his Oni versus my Akuma that we ran back, but my shoto skills still haven't evolved beyond raw uppercuts and pointless air fireballs. Despite getting my Ultras out most of the time in the runback, Oni still won the match thanks to a great EX slash -> U1 finish. Street Fighter!

OK folks. It's been a bit tricky, but I've put together provisional leagues based on a) the brackets from Heggfest & the last tournament and b) what I can glean from old league threads. I don't think there are any huge mismatches here, so unless anyone better informed than me sees a glaring omission, I'll post up some official threads with rules later tonight.

A-League

imp

sith

joffocakes

alistarr

Nate Dogg III

B-League

Also, I think we might have to aim for two matches a week, if that's OK with everyone. Can include catch-up weeks as mentioned.

Okay so there are a million videos out there that help people get started with SFIV, but Latif's started some of his own for Razer. The first episode went up a few days ago and covers game rules, screen overview, movement, normals, specials, unique attacks, throws/throw techs, blocks, dashes, stun, quick recovery, taunts and maybe some other bits I missed. It's the general fundamental stuff that we're all familiar with, but if the future tutorials are delivered with the same clarity and patience it could be a good series.

Episode 2 appeared earlier this month, covering Supers and Ultras, how to build meter, the various strengths of focus attacks, cancelling focus with a dash, and cancelling stuff with focus attacks -

Again, very basic stuff for most of us (even though I hardly use focus cancels) but delivered very patiently.

Speaking of instructional videos, I'm quite late to UltraChenTV but the First Attack and Lv3 Focus series are great resources for players looking for anything from learning the basics to picking up more advanced stuff. :D

EDIT: also well done Joe for sorting out the leagues :)

There's yer Hypespotting stream on the go. Kinda poor quality for that authentic Scottish experience. Commentator Hustle Crowe looks a lot like a bearded Alan Carr, so look out for that. Hopefully BigFool does some Gen wonders on stream. I think he still plays with a 360 pad too. He's probably up against Problem X soon. Unless Samurai Drew beats Problem X*.

Super Squady vs Glasgow Kev right now. Cammy mirror. Kev has a great Dan, though.

Here's the bracket:

EDIT*: Apparently Problem X did lose. Ah.

Joffo, we forgot to 'remind' Hustle that he looks like Alan Carr. Gutted!

They announced earlier that they will be running 2 Hypespotting a year now, looking to have the next one in Sept/Oct time.

I really must dust off the stick and get practising this time, shouldn't I? :S

I've hardly played any stuff today - too busy with other business, and I'm probably spending more time watching match footage than actually getting practice in myself. Maybe I'll make up for it tomorrow - bank holidays ftw.

PS Joffo can you tell Caz she's welcome to join us in lobbies when she's not involved in offline adventures; I drop more than enough hints on Twitter... :P

Just catching up on the final round finals, I haven't made it to SFIV yet, but I heartily recommend everyone check out Sethlololol's matches in X Tekken. He is a joy to watch fight. Also plopboy, and any right-thinking human bean, really, would love his utterly ridiculous kuma.
