Ultra Street Fighter IV

Combofriend says "Hey all, I'm sure by now you've all heard that we're planning on updating Street Fighter 4. Although we can't divulge details on what will be included in the release, we are looking to rebalance the characters" so I guess that means there could be more to it than just rebalancing.

We've had this conversation a bunch of times and I still feel like they should try and do something about unblockables and then probably just leave it at that because rebalancing at this point is more likely to mess stuff up than make it better.

I do agree that Akuma and Cammy could do with having maybe one offensive tool each (not fussed which one) made a little less good, but that's about it and I don't think they can do that without making a big deal out of doing something to everyone.

Would also love that rematch button, though. Again!

We could probably just do one division, FT3 with home and away fixtures, and see how it goes. There'll only be about a dozen people at most who'll sign up anyway and if it lasts ages it'll just increase the excitement to see who comes fourth.

Strekken 2v2 tournament would also be the most fun, if we could find at least 4 people to enter. Or some kind of SF4 team tournament if not.

I personally would like some chip damage on taunts but if we have new characters I would expect them to be Elena and Rolento as they will have done most of the work putting them into Strekken.

Maybe they could revamp the stats screen and let you compare your character stats against your friends.

I think a big league would be great fun - after all you'd get all the games you would have played anyway in smaller divisions plus some opportunities for giant-killing/potential banana skins (delete as applicable). I'm just mindful that everyone's got different schedules, and if someone gets really busy at work/breaks a wrist/moves to Rio then with smaller leagues it doesn't shazbot the whole thing, and people can also opt out (or in!) between seasons.

Team tournament sounds fun though, and no reason not to try both!

Anyway I practiced some Skullgirls! I don't have the hang of air combos but I'm trying - my best effort in training with Filia was air-dash cross-up hk, c.lp c.lk c.mk s.hp, j.lp j.mp xx hk Hairball xx Super. I managed that thing where you air-dash cancel a normal then carry on, but only once. That's only Filia though, right? Also the SRK motions are stricter than in Street Fighter and it's kicking my ass. I like it a lot though. When I had story mode on my flatmate mocked me and said it looked like a Japanese porno game, but then he started admiring the backgrounds and the jazzy credits music.

Yeah Joe, I think Filia can for example do j.HP xx air dash xx j.HP xx tings for silly damage. Not sure if others can do similar. Also with Filia, try air dash MP as an ambiguous jump-in. You can space the air dash and time the MP to hit either side of the opponent and I think you should be able to go into a LMH chain from it when you hit the ground on either side.

I'm out tomorrow night but maybe we can get some more fights at some point either this weekend or an evening next week. It'll give me some incentive to re-learn at least one combo for my character.

While we're talking about other games, I've been playing Proteus tonight. Imp: all is forgiven.

I've been playing Muramasa: The Demon Blade on the Wii. I'm pleased that my Wii isn't too full of dust to load games. Muramasa is just lovely to look at and I like swishing about the place trying to extend my combos like a 2D Bayonetta. I like it a lot, but I'm only playing it because my housemates are on the internets and I can't play fighting games.

Started a second playthrough of Muramasa whilst off work recently as the boy character as Id played through it as the girl the first time. Awesome seeing all the different bosses in his story :D

Excellent - no idea when I'll be on but let's play if we coincide.

So, just to keep this thread on-topic, I thought I might create an on-topic thread in a different forum

I'm glad you like it. It's a pretty cool experience, that I've been meaning to go back to a second time to see what exactly changes each time you play. Anyway, "summer" is a proper banger!

Also, does this mean you'll consider playing Kentucky Route Zero now? I know we're on shaky ground since the last "adventure game" I recommended, but I think it's really rather special.

I played through Muramasa a few years ago, and thought that it was mostly delightful. The combo system is pretty satisfying and goddamn can those guys pick an evocative colour palette. Wasn't this continually rumoured to be the subject of an HD rerelease? I would probably buy that and never play it.

Possibly because I was half asleep and possibly just because I'm not very bright, I spent about 45 minutes on the first season before I worked out that there was actually something to do. I walked round the whole coastline of my island (I think - I'd kind of forgotten what the starting point looked like by the time I got back there) and spent some time failing to figure out these weird tower things. Then I kind of moved through the other seasons faster than I'd like because I was falling asleep properly. But yes, I really like it, and will probably play it through again pretty soon.

I also love the idea of the postcard/save system.

Here is the Madcatz thing if anyone wants to see it, I fell asleep before it started - http://www.twitch.tv...atz/b/380657544

Thanks for posting the link. Some thoughts on Ryan Hart vs Mago:

Yoooooooooooooooooo!

Red Fight District this weekend, Armshouse providing the stream. http://www.twitch.tv/armshouse

Xian, Dieminion, ChrisG, Louffy, Cuongster, MBR and Momi in the AE bracket.

ChrisG, Dieminion and WhiteBlack in the Marvel bracket.

Oh, and Nin has come over from Korea to win Tekken Tag 2.

Also that OverMostHeads vs WA Solid FT5 Yasawas posted was really good. There were understandable drops because of the less than perfect connection but it was still outstanding stuff and had some entirely unnecessary combos.

Yeah so I just tried to learn a Skullgirls BnB and I can't even find a Skullgirls BnB. I'm going to stick with mashing my face against the buttons and hoping for the best like last time we played.

Been busy with work recently but take my few minutes at lunch to catchup on the general goings on in here. Just wanted to send belated birthday wishes to a few of you guys and also congrats and good luck to Hegg.

Dirty Bull cancelable from whiffed EX Upper. That would be terrifying and hilarious.

I played some games with Mr Rotarrius the other night; what a delightful Juri he has. On more than one occasion I got caught with an excellent focus attack juggle where he caught me with the focus attack after knocking me airborne then dash cancelled the hit into her Ultra 2. It was wonderful. A fair few Hakan oil dive catches on my wakeup also. Lovely stuff.

Utterly pasted my Rufus as Adon as well, ha! Completely wasted me.

I played a little of this, the SNES Super Street Fighter 2 and Fighting Vipers against my fat cousin and tall Radlord yesterday during our wild gaming day (highlights being Hidden in Plain Sight and Micro Machines). Radlord simply does not enjoy playing Street Fighter because he loses. I did land more Spinning Piledrivers in one match as Zangief in Street Fighter 2 than I managed in my entire decade of SNES ownership. Radlord did win at Fighting Vipers though, so that was nice for him. Though he threw away a few rounds by determinedly trying to remember how you jump off the walls with Raxel. It does seem like a pretty fun game really. Is Fighters Megamix unlikely to get a release? I'm assuming it was Saturn only rather than AM2, but I haven't checked.

Have any clever balance change requests been spotted for the next SSFIV update?

EDIT: Excellent stuff also Nate. Amazing.

Fighters Megamix was indeed Saturn only and is in glorious low-res because it was asking a lot of the console. I remember struggling to get used to how ropey it looked even at the time because the VF2 port looked so lovely.

Just watched the grand finals of Red Fight District, the end of the last day of Madcatz Unveiled and the end of the i48 tournament from Telford this weekend.

RFD archives aren't available on the Armshouse twitch Tv page but the replays will be up on WorstGiefEver's Youtube channel at http://www.youtube.com/hakf

Grand finals saw Louffy get outclassed by Xian and also beaten by unfamiliarity with the Gen match up. I still think Louffy is the best Rose in the world and showed why once again by overcoming some terrible match ups on his way to the final, but Xian's spacing and reactions were too much for him here. Xian's footsies against a character who is more than a match for Gen in that department were so impressive to watch, and his use of focus attacks to stop Louffy using his pokes effectively was near flawless too. Louffy made a late adjustment towards the end and started throwing raw soul spirals at safe distances to break focus though, and if he'd done that a bit earlier he'd have had an easier time of it. Very high quality set regardless of the one sided result. xian is so very very good.

I only caught the last match on the Madcatz stream and it had LuckyD getting his rematch against Mago after massively choking it up the first time they played on Friday. Mago beat him again, but LuckyD pulled off such an amazing comeback in the second to last round that Madcatz gave him one of their new sticks anyway. It was excellent.

Oh, and Ghost from SFO got 3rd in AE at i48. Having beaten Ghost at a previous SFO tournament, I can safely assume that I too would have been top 3 at i48 because that is how the world works. Also one of the SFO Marvel players won the Marvel tournament. I had a suspicion that those guys were really good but it's hard to tell until you see them play against people from other areas.

Coleslaw.
