JLM

Congrats to JLM, again! I would definitely be up for another tournament. I may dust off my stick (fnarr) later after not playing any fight mans for a while, will probably just try out Skullgirls or do some training mode but maybe fights!

Skullgirls was awesome fun! Sorry to dash off, got tings to do before bed. We'll have to do that again some time. What a silly game.

SkullGGs! Yeah, it's mental. I'm sure it became quickly apparent that I have only played the tutorial (Filia super cancel!). What the hell is Ms. Fortune's head all about?! I think I saw you bait me into a super punish that the head jumped on and stuffed, which was hilarious. It all got a bit Marvel by the end there so I just guessed supers and dicked about with super jumps and that. Fun!

I might listen to Nick Cave and do some Skullgirls reading on SRK wiki.

Ggs Mr Cale. That Sagat is indeed gahdlike.

Good Strekkening to Allystah too.

I played Darkstalkers for ten minutes. Did Q. Bee's tutorial thingies because she was the closest thing I had to a main chicken Vampire Saviour. It looks lovely and there's loads of content and stuff. I like it.

Thanks for the games, sir. I very much enjoyed the set we had and would have liked to play for longer only missus cale came home. Your Evil Roo had ample opportunities for combo practice against my day 2 jihadlike Sagat but, for the first time ever, I actually enjoyed playing as him. Historically I've always struggled with character because he almost feels like he should play like a shoto by virtue of his moveset but really isn't one at all in any way and I think I've finally realised that.

My early impressions are:

- it's going to take me a very long time to get used to the fact that I can't cancel any of his hard punches into anything (mainly because I don't think any of them cancel into anything)

- cr.hp is not an anti-air

- karaing stuff is the best fun ever and I will try it at the beginning of every single round even if it means I will land harmlessly next to JLM and he will take off 30% of my life for it

And on the subject of JLM it's worth pointing out that he really is a gent and still executes infinite patience in continuing to slum it at my gutter tier level even though he is so very much better than me. It's starting to remind me of the early vanilla days where I would have regular sessions with infexious before he removed me from his friends list to fight people who, y'know, he might not double perfect in his sleep every match.

Getting an "ooh" for a kara Tiger Uppercut remains my best rllmuk lobby moment. And yes, JLM is unreasonably patient.

I think I like SFxT again now. Maybe just because I didn't lose 12 games in a row last night.

Putting Juri first makes more sense, I think, because then when Rufus comes in he's doing it from a combo ending in knockdown and he's already up close and starting his pressure game, rather than spending the first third of his life bar trying to get in. Plus Juri at least has some tools to deal with keepaway teams. I need to read up on her again because after seeing someone else play her I was surprised how hard to punish the divekick is, and I wonder if divekick spam with Juri is actually viable. I guess they can always just uppercut it or trade with it using an anti air, but then she'd start baiting that for punishes. Or maybe we just suck at punishing it and it's actually totally unviable.

The SG wiki on SRK will give you a bit of an idea what each character is about, but the character subforums on their site are better. There's also a SG site called skullheart or something if you need even more reading material! For me, I've done that same tutorial as you and then twenty minutes learning a basic combo which I've now forgotten. Things got better once I figured out what my two characters' launchers were so I could at least look like I knew what I was doing.

I liked that at first you were doing that sonic the hedgehog move and then nothing, then I did it and cancelled into super once and from that point on you never missed a chance to cancel it into super. I wasn't sure if you'd been going for it before or had forgotten it existed because you'd only seen it once in the tutorial. And then later I did the same thing and then tried to combo off the wall bounce and you picked up on that too and started doing it immediately. Good learning! Sadly, I've now taught you everything I know :-(

The removed head takes 50% damage but allows for some tricky setups and combos which I don't know. I just remove it and press buttons for fun and see what happens. But yeah, you can also use it to grab (I think it's a blockable attack but let's call it a grab anyway to distinguish from the headbutt thing) someone to hold them in place. There used to be crazy loops based on using this to restand your opponent at the end of an attack string, then do a different attack string - I think they changed them in a patch but there's probably something similar again by now.

Anyway yes, lots of fun. Let's read up and reconvene for more fightings.

I did a wildly long session in endless as opposed to ranked last night. It was so good! I don't know why I keep going back and playing ranked, it's so much less fun, and people seem to play so much more sensibly. Much less frustrating all round. Good old endless.

Also where was everyone? I was on for a while but didn't see any of you men.

Good Morning, I have this evening "off" and I would like to spend it with you, yes you, playing videogames for children where men and beast try to punch each other, sometimes hard, sometimes not so hard.

I would be happy to play Street Fighter, Darkstalkers (preferably NW) or Skullgirls*.

Thanks for listening.

(Or Left 4 Dead 2, bagsy the miserable old git)

Also, in NW's challenge for Dimitri, what the HELL kind of motion is d, f, df >PP?? Da' hell?

Edit! I will be available to fight mans from 4pm until approximately 10:30pm. Thank you.

That Dimitri one with the air EX fireball, his mad flamebat super then EX Pursuit Attack? It's a horrible motion. Absolutely made me realise how much of how I play fighting games is based on muscle memory (and I have a stronger empathy for new players struggling with basic shoryukens). You can repeatedly mash out quarter circle forward motions and two kicks and get it that way too, though, haha. I ended up having to do it properly in the end; the timing to get the juggle is odd. I did the fireball as late as possible from a forward jump.

His trials are the only ones I completed. I'll play more of it once I stop being New Console obsessed.

I'm not even sure the trial was that complex, its the one where you have to dash then do the d, f, df>PP. I got stopped on the one against the Egyptian feller, where you have to jump > lk, lp, hp in the air then lp,mp,hp on the ground.

My brain just can't process the inputs quick enough, I kind of go:

jump, lk, lp..... fuck! whats next?!

jump, lk, (doesnt connect), lp....fuck it!

jump (jumps straight up), fuck!

jump, lk, lp, hp....YEAH!!! fuck, whats next?!

just mix up the above, for about an hour.

I've managed to not spend money on darkstalkers! I'm really pleased with mesel'!

I would like to play childrens fighting videogames against other people who are also not children, but tonight I am taking my recently acquired female companion to see the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. It's going to be wild. I'm secretly hoping that they'll play the Guile theme the whole night,

Oooh, I bet you're going to the southbank centre aren't you. It's the Russian music thing tonight isn't it? I've been to a couple of the The (the) Rest Is Noise season the past month or so, and they've been marvellous so far. I am cultural as shit, yo. Are you going to go to Gordon's Wine Bar afterwards for maximum south bank date efficiency?

Also geldra, yes, my brain used to be horrible at knowing which buttons to press in which order to make my imaginary screen avatar perform the "moves" that I wanted him to do in the right order. But, after you have wasted a sufficient amount of your life in this way, your brain becomes better at being able to do this, presumably to the detriment of other, more useful, life skills such as conversation or basic hygiene.

Ha, yes. I tried to do taht dash cancelling one you're talking about by doing forward, down, forward, downforward and PP, but it didn't work so I just had to mash it out faster.

I can't get a feel for the air chains on the tall fellas. When doing the trials in games which aren't SSFIV you realise just how wild the hitstun on SSFIV's jump attacks is.

Yeah, that's the one. The last time I went to a ting at the South Bank Centre it was for (no lie) an evening of video game music played by the phil, hosted by richard herring, of all people. It was pretty amazing. Especially the tetris music. Also I went there the other week to be videoed for some hipster art project about laughter, and my big gurning face might be on a cinema screen in Camden at some point soon, hopefully.

Also I don't think we're going to Gordons. Probably to get some food somewhere, and then maybe cheekily pop to scooter cafe for a drink.

I'm up for some early evening fighting and maybe some later on fighting. Darkstalkers or Skullgirls would be fun. I finished Tomb Raider last night - is it really like them Drake's games on the PS3? If so, I'm glad I didn't buy a PS3 just to play them. Although I'd also like a PS3 to play Journey, HD Ico and Shadow of the Mollusc and that Swan thing.

I want to play those games on PS3 also. As well as actually playing Yakuza 4, which I almost did one day, then promptly didn't. I also really, really loved Pixeljunk shooter. I wish Worms Revolution had used that games look and physics instead.

Also Everycunts Golf and Wipeout HD, which I didn't play enough. And Flower.

I'd probably just re-buy the PS3 and spend my time re-doing the SSFIV trials.

I like watching golf, but I don't care for any of the players, their tournament standings or anything. I'd happily watch hours of completely unrelated golfing strokes with Peter Alliss whispering about a family picnic over it and I'd be content.
