Yeah, I too would like to see some Chessboxing. I've never been to a boxing match despite being a big fan. I have been to a wrestling match, but it was like World of Sport Saturday morning wresting not that WWF/WWE stuff you kids watch. The wresting was dull - a man got thrown out of the ring and hurt his back and we had to wait ages for him to be taken away before they started again.

Different in what way? Wasn't there a thing about the stage lengths being different but that was debunked?

That was debunked I think, but they mean different in that attacks will crossup a cornered opponent on one side but not on the other. Samuel told me off for not knowing that a couple of months ago.

I hope in SFV the corners will wrap around so my tired old Dhalsim can do a bendy limb punch that goes off one side of the screen and comes back on the other side catching the back of the opponent's head and that there will be an appropriate baffled response and also a laugh button so that I can cheer Dhalsim up a bit the old misery that he is. Also a burger button for Rufus. I reckon I should work for Capcom.

Only found out about this about a month ago, but it led to me blocking more confidently in the left corner. I've taken advantage of that knowledge once when someone went to cross me up and I knew it wasn't gonna happen, but that's about it so far.

Knowledge is power, and all that.

I wish to heartedly recommend Jellums patented SFIV crash course. It begins with a genuinely happily received constructive criticism, on which you literally take notes.

You then play a 3.5 hour set against him and a slightly drunken Imp, with your notes sat in front of you, and actively try to correct your playstyle.

It's obviously early days, but I genuinely feel more comfortable and confident with my Guile.

Thanks everyone.

I love this site. I love you guys.

So having had a terrible time with this game recently, I just had a gander at the Dhalsim threads on Shoryuken to see if I could up my game with some science. Instead I find threads full of people suggesting learning a second character for all the bad matchups or abandoning Dhalsim altogether. It's full of inspiring comments about how most characters now have an answer to everything Dhalsim can do and so on.

So I guess I'd better learn how to use Ryu.

YOGA.

Ha well that's the thing. I never go on SRK. So I figured maybe that's what I'm missing. That's where all the science lies. So I headed over there all eager to learn new things and all I found was a bunch of sad-faced, battle-scarred Dhalsimophiles.

Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

Don't worry, I'm sure I'll abandon him just as quickly as all the other characters I've tried to learn.

I very occasionally go to SRK but considering the wild knowledge you can find it really is pretty disorganised. And some characters still have loads and loads of empty match-up advice sections, after all these years. I thought at the very least that the third strike sections for Necro would be densely packed with amazing info. I sometimes think about raking through it and compiling the useful stuff, but I just cannot be arsed.

One of the best players I know, a wee 360 pad Gen player, has a wee notepad bible full of his character-specific combos and setups. I'm jealous of that sort of dedication; I just want to get in there and hit the men.

It's amazing the difference when you have some special matchup knowledge though, and change your standard game accordingly.

Makoto is scary. In particular that win pose she has where she turns away from her opponent and sits down because when you get a KO at close quarters she just swiftly turns around and squats over their crotch in what looks like an emotionless, functional rape. It is utterly terrifying.
