Ultra Street Fighter IV

I may finally be in a position where I can start getting some rounds in again. Haven't picked up a fight-pad in... months. Probably close to 5. Will most likely drop right back into bad habits. Hope to see some of you on early evenings/weekdays.

I've missed being a twat with Dan.

I probably need to get more fightings in too. :)

What can I give up for Lent? I was thinking about going 40 days without jumping backwards, but given the floatiness of the d-pad I might not be able to account for accidental motions. I could give up playing as Blanka, but that might not account for random select...

EDIT: wait, I can give up SF X Tekken :P

Take it to the arcade stick thread and let's try and keep this one on topic, please.

Don't suppose anyone is in need of a cat? This one is living in our spare room at the moment - he has apparently mislaid his humans somewhere and is looking for new ones.

But... But... I just bought it...

I have clips. Both involve taunts, but in my defense the first one is against Alistarr so it's all in good fun and the second guy was mashing like an absolute mad man and I regret nothing.

Haha, you know Bison has to fix his hat after that combo. That's one of my favourite taunts.

Says Stolen RS. What an oddball.

Jason, those clips are marvellous. You are slowly turning into Desk, though. Look at all those buttons you successfully pressed at the right times there. Crivens.

I played this game last night! The hacked version, in arcade mode, on ma PC, with a 360 pad, which admittedly isn't really playing it at all. I did fix my persistent tearing problems, though, which I know you guys have all been worried about.

Excellent stuff Jellum. And also good games to yersel and Alistarr for yesterday; thems was some good Street Fights; poor Alistarr with his damaged medium finger (I should name all fingers after the corresponding buttons from now on). He was Jelluming me with his own Dudley links too. Oh! And caught my sly Gen off the wall kick with an uppercut cancelled into super which very almost connected for full damage. It was pretty sweet.

I woulda stuck around for even more, but a man delivered food and then I spent ages eating the food. Then there were pancakes. Shroveken

Yes, my medium finger is in a sorry state. I may have to play Bayonetta instead for a couple of days. Or go out in the outside world or something crazy like that.

I still haven't played this against a human. Shout up if you're likely to be around at any point.

When I put the PS3 version in for the first time the other day I figured I'd download all the free extra bits - palettes and so on. Took about half an hour of selecting an item, waiting, clicking on download, waiting etc etc. The front end really is a bloody mess.

Pac-Man though. Pac-Man.

Yeah, Strekken pretty much is a free to play game that isn't free to play. I enjoy playing it though, so I'll happily accept a cheeky wee invite if you're on, sir.

The DLC characters probably cost more than the game itself does now.

Customising stuff really is a pain as well. I dunno why you can't create a single, univeral gem set to quickly select when choosing non-regular characters. Setting them up individually is mental. Also, it's still hard to get a sense of gems and when best to use them. I've got mine set up to maximise Pandora damage even though I rarely get a chance to use it.

Since the latest patch each character has a set of default gem selections already configured... but you can only get at them if you delete your save and create a new one, or look up what they are and select them manually.

I don't even notice when my gems kick in. It all feels pointless. Pandora even more so.

Outside of all that nonsense, I still really enjoy the game. It sits nicely between the serious business of SFIV and the absurdity of MvC3. I know it's fundamentally not as good as either but I'm still getting lots of enjoyment out of it even though I constantly lose against everyone who has played it for more than five minutes. It's forcing me to learn how to perform combos too as I can't just use Sim all the time.

Had a really good session last night against an A ranked player called E5_gang. He beat me pretty consistently, but most matches were fairly close and he sent me a nice message after advising me to use meter more effectively but that otherwise I was 'pretty solid'. The fool.

That air reflect into taunt is the work of a twisted madman. Or a twisted madam, I'm not sure.

Also strekken really does show just how utterly inept Capcom's UI people are. The whole thing is an hilarious mess. Especially setting the gems. They have about ten times more gems than are required, and the majority of them are next to useless and close to indistinguishable from one another.

Is online still full of auto-block people? Did they nerf those gems, I can't even remember? Why am I asking questions about a game I'm still not playing despite having just bought the dlc, in a thread about a different game, while I'm supposed to be doing work.

Autoblock gems seem less frequent; they use more meter now I think. I have seen some gems that activate with air to airs; not sure what those are. There's easy air combo and easy cancel assist gems as well. I have no idea what they actually do. Also, the expert input gem should not use a slot.

They should add a burst style mechanic to the game and confusingly name that Cross something as well. And all special moves should be called Cross something.

Also, I always do wild meter wasting combos that last for half an hour and do no damage only for my oppenent to do a simple, clean combo that probably activates forty gems and then connect with that three-bar Cross something combo and KO me in seconds.
