Ultra Street Fighter IV

Excellent fighting in the Streets last night sirs; good to play Robbidoo after what must be aaaaages and special appearances from joeplus and Qazi and some man we didn't know. Qazi destroyed me on several occasions in the random select draw, perhaps none more thorough than his Blanka versus my Yang. There was a lot of glass left to sweep from that pitch black jungle in the morning, haha.

I might pick up Lost Odyssey; I'm sure it's cheap in Cex. I'll never play it.

I'm at work and sad about it so no Street Fighting for me. I did beat the same team of 13k BP players at SFxT three times last night though. I did not once successfully land my Pandora combo, but I did use Pandora a lot. Pandora's Bollocks. Hilarious though.

There don't seem to be as many gems designed to make Pandora more terrifying really. That's a shame. It feels like having Makoto's Super but isn't cancellable and is tight to link and you don't have new mixup opportunity. You lose cancels for pressure because your partner is gone. So rather than being a comeback mechanic Pandora feels more like something you can risk to make sure a combo you're already landing will do enough to take out the opponents character without the need for a reset.

Great lobbies everyone, and big hellos to Robbo who brought some awesome fightings to the party. :) Random select was as entertaining as ever, although my time in the lab making that parry video has at least made me feel a bit better about some of the trickier commands.

I'm out during the daytime but I might be around for fightings in the evening if I'm still awake :)

EDIT: has Robbo been introduced to the spreadsheet of doom yet? It's our way of listing regular players you can add to friends lists and play matches with. I'm doing mobile browsing so the link might be iffy, but try this:

You know you've been out of the thread too long when people are welcoming you like a newb! Thanks for your hospitality last night folks. I'll try not to be a stranger again.

Honestly: I'd forgotten what makes rllmuk the best. It's the folks in this thread, in SaintM's league, probably those in the EVE and WoW folders too (though I'll never know).

I'd forgotten the reason I care about this forum, and why I worked to save it. It's the time you spend with the folks on here when you're doing anything but posting.

I won't forget again.

Well, imp 5 - 3 Alistarr. Such is the power of mashing dragon punch. They were incredibly tense games, I was completely lost for much of it, not knowing which way to block Alistarr's tricky setups, completely failing to punish things and all sorts of shitty play. I didn't deserve it, but GGs my good friend.

Lovely post and I have to agree with the sentiments. I had wanted to post for a while in this thread but had been put off by the general image of the FGC ( places like SRK etc) but once I had I was really glad. And even though all the players on here are blatantly better than me I still always feel welcome in Lobbies and chatting about my very basic achievements.

I also like the love for Dan, taunting and the importance of having fun and showing off rather than just winning.

I know I'll never be any good at the game but at least I have found a small corner of the Internet where I can share my obsession with a child's game and not feel like an outcast.

Oh and well done Imp, I look forward to seeing the replay. I did think it was going to be a j* final.

Haha, I look back ruefully on the brief exchange near the end that went:

"did you see that cheeky one frame link in the last round?"

"I saw the american reset, not sure about a link..."

...and then sure enough you had seen it, and you proceeded to mash uppercut through my two subsequent attempts at the combo. I should've done divekick short short block! (I think you had meter to FADC anyway though).

I have been thinking about the Adon matchup in preparation and was fortunate to play against the dude I posted about the other night (and also a long set of games against JLM this morning, thank you!) so I was pleased to get an extra game compared to the first time we met in this tournament - which I think was partly thanks to discovering standing MP and getting some practice at not running out of patience - but by the end you'd pretty clearly got the upper hand in the mental game. I almost cracked completely at one point (the point when i said "oh man, I cracked") but managed to at least put up a bit of a fight for the remaining games.

I always say how much I hate playing you in a tournament but, while it's certainly true that it's always ridiculously tense and it's equally true that I always lose convincingly, I have nevertheless come away from today's match with a great sense of wellbeing. I think I basically just love playing Street Fighter and I think the game is at its best when you're fighting inch by inch to try and claw back a round from someone who's better than you. GGs! My fantasy bracket has you going much further than this, though, so you better not let me down :-)

Haha, you are mental! But thanks, that's the nicest thing anyone's said about my dubious Street Fighter play since "i hope ur nan gets run over".

Oh and Imp, shall I do the replays or do you have it in hand? I have saved them anyway, just in case.

Ha, I was out with a couple of rllmuk friends today and they always roll their eyes when I talk about SF, but I was trying to dispel their (understandably) negative impression of the FGC and explain that there are still some nice guys out there who don't mind playing for fun and welcoming people with varying levels of expertise in different areas. :)

EDIT: I'm talking about you gents, in case that wasn't clear

I just had this romantic idea of the final battle between the Student and the Master, sort of Darth Vader Vs Obi Wan (not Masters of Teräs Käsi but the film) but yes I am mental :)

I spectated the excellent impistarr games and made an effort to avoid chatting and interfering during the matches, but I was silently screaming "dive kick, short, BLOCK!" throughout the closing games. Amazing games to watch though, and I think imp has "most unnecessary ultra of the tournament" sewn up.

I really appreciate that you didn't interfere at all, because that was basically all I had going in my favour for the last few rounds! Man, I really need to play this game more though, it really showed that I was basically lost in so many situations. I love it though, there's always so much to learn.

Also, now if you want to watch Mike Ross clowning you have another youtube channel to check (which is sadly not exclusively dedicated to uploading videos of Mike Ross clowning):

Apparently there are technical issues for the first seven minutes (which I assume isn't just a nice way of saying Mike loses all his games, but rather something to do with the video - I haven't watched it yet).

I played a little endless last night as Dan and ended up fighting a terrible T Hawk player and winning, only for the next guy to be a 10k BP T Hawk and a fair bit better. Such a tense match because of how hard Dan's mistakes are punished but I managed to take the first round before losing the second, and the last came down to the final slice of health for me; The Hawk with a 25%. Some far standing medium kick and lk dankick pressure brought things even closer but eventually I got kicked in the face and lost. A short wait and a cup o' tea and I fought him again, just as wildly tense and very cautious, other than a few taunts here and there. Came down to the final round again but this time I landed a gadouken FADC and managed to continue it for decent damage and the KO. I was pretty eager to play some more, because I'm not too familiar with the matchup, but as the KO was still sounding out he quit. :( I thought he'd been enjoying it too. That made me sad. Didn't get any nice reply messages from anyone all night.

I'll be on for some SSFIVAE bout 3:30 - 4ish this pm, if anybody around?

I finish at four, so I'll be on for a wee bit once I get home; sent me an invite!

I'm going to phone every Adon player I know and train for hours and hours. Adon means I cannot focus.

I was just talking about some restaurant in Glasgow with the rest of the folks I work with and mentioned that for dessert I had affogato. One of the women in the team laughed and said "I could imagine you having affogato" and I figured that maybe she thought I either looked like I could pass for an italian or that I seemed like a guy who appreciates good coffee until I found out she thought I'd said half a gateaux and thought I was a fat bastard.

Spent a couple of lovely hours playing Ni No Kuni with my other half last night, then ruined the evening by playing Street fucking Fighter x fucking Tekken until some silly hour this morning.

Anyone got any Alisa tips?

*crickets*
