Ultra Street Fighter IV

JLM

Recommended Posts

Hey dudes. Joined the site specifically for the Street Fighter side of things, 'cos seemed like a cool group. Am around at odd times due to shift work, but am around today in couple hours, most of tomorrow into night and all day Monday. GT is IgTerminals, I play Guile. If anyone fancies a set or two then hit me up. :-)

Ah, you picked the perfect place for a first post; welcome :) If we haven't added you first, go look at the spreadsheet in Plopboy's sig (or here) and add everyone from that. :D We welcome all sorts of players in our fightings (even me and I'm terrible), and we need more Guiles to dissuade me from doing so much stupid stuff in matches.

Alistarr, I was going to suggest we play our match this weekend, but my Internet is down. I am sad. This also makes working difficult. Grr.

As it happens I'm only in the correct house for street fightings for about an hour or two this weekend (that being this hour right here, and the one after it). Next weekend I think I'm visiting Jason so I can get beaten up in person by all his cool new friends (dependent on weather because he might be busy building snowmen). Maybe we can do it one night this week.

Blanka Balsa

Chipboard damage

MDFADC

Today I fought a nice chap who, after losing a couple, insisted on picking Rufus until he won one, presumably to prove some kind of point, a nice chap who played a bunch of games against me where I won and then felt compelled to pick his 15000BP main (Blanka) and beat me once before leaving with no runback, presumably to prove some kind of point, and a nice chap who was actually nice and we had a generally lovely time selecting various characters and dropping stuff.

Good games to sirs JLM and Joeplus and laggy Jiro. J-fest lobbies. I do use far, far too many focus attacks, to the extent that JLM often does tatsu on my wakeup. Armour breaking attacks kill me. I've lost to Ryu players doing repeated tatsus and nothing else. I can't stop doing it.

Guh. Got kicked from Live. Goot games to IgTerminals, Alistarr and JLM while they lasted! I caught the tail end of a close round where Alistarr evened things up by catching a spiral arrow with Corkscrew Blow, but I didn't get to see how it all ended. Nice to play you Mr Terminals; I can't count how many times you caught me with that cr.hp of Guile's, haha.

Pita pocket and Netflix time now. la.

It ended with me mashing ultra through Jason's buttons for victory!

SF4 Rainbow Edition Error1's SSF4AE PC mod is ready for downloading:

Download link: https://dl.dropbox.c.../error1 mod.zip

Changelists: https://drive.google.com/#folders/0B3k_h4-9InKRMjkwMmNiZjctN2RhOS00YmIwLWI5OTYtNjI5MWYwYzNiNDhk

EDIT: It's pretty easy to install, you just have to drop two folders into specified locations within the game's folder on your PC (having taken a backup of each one first so you can go back when you want, of course!). There's a very brief instruction note included.

Has anyone got any Abel science they'd like to share? Just had a run through his trials (well, until the hard ones) and I think I may quite enjoy using him. Wanted to get away from charge characters.

Also, is there a guide as to what alt costumes are included in each pack somewhere?

The single most important thing Abel has is step kick cancelled into forward dash. It's how he gets in and starts his pressure, it's the start of his b'n'b combo and it also puts the opponent into a guessing situation as soon as they block it. After a blocked step kick you can go for a tornado throw, a regular throw, wait to try and bait something or continue harassing them with normals as they'll often try to jump away to avoid the tornado throw.

Abel is essentially a vortex character, so if you do land a TT or other knockdown you need to make the most of it. You can cross the opponent up, roll through them, roll so you stay in front, go for a meaty attack, go for a TT, close standing hard kick (this is an overhead), what ever you think will work. Try to get a handle on the opponent's tendencies, if you've gone for a couple of grabs and got them scared of it it might be worth going for a meaty attack to punish them for trying to jump. This depends on how twitchy the opponent is and what they've been hit by previously.

The ideal aim is to land something that ends in another knockdown so they have to guess again. Examples: tornado throw, meaty normal into change of direction, crouching fierce into falling sky, sweep.

He's also really good at gimmicky resets and shenanigans. You can do stuff like land the first hit of change of direction and then go for a tornado throw instead of finishing it, or land a crouching fierce, cancel it into roll, juggle them with a normal cancelled into roll again so you keep switching sides and making them guess.

Ultra 1 is the ultra of choice in most match ups since they took away a lot of the stuff that made Ultra 2 ludicrously good in Super. Ultra 1 goes through fireballs and combos off a crouching fierce and does a big chunk of damage even when scaled.

Get used to cancelling normals into rolls as this can be used for shenanigans and to keep your pressure both safe and varied. Your sweep is quite slow and unsafe, but if you cancel it into a roll you can minimise the risk of throwing it out. Same with crouching fierce punch.

Your wake up game is quite limited. Without meter you don't have much at all, though in some situations you can try rolling. With bar, EX tornado throw is a good reversal but you're screwed if they neutral jump. You can also try EX change of direction as it has a hit of armour to beat meaty attacks.

Standing fierce and crouching MK are his best anti-airs. Crouching fierce is good too but you have to anticipate and do it early. Falling sky is a terrible anti-air even though it seems like it should work, though the EX one is decent in a pinch. You can also anti-air by doing a late EX tornado throw as the invincibility can make their jump attack whiff and then they'll land in the grab.

He needs to be played quite patiently, but when you get an opening you have to go a bit nuts because if you build momentum and get a couple of knockdowns in a row he can cause a panic and make people to stupid stuff.

I think that the Error1 AE PC mod should work online, if anyone wants to install it and try it out with me.

It's probably best not to read the change lists until you've had a play with it. I've only played a few rounds of arcade mode and already had some delightful surprises.
