Well, I chose Rufus as my next C Rank conquest. He's rather good fun, isn't he? Excitingly, I managed my first proper online FADC into Ultra with him, out of fucking nowhere. The hands took over and the brain shut down. Couldn't repeat it, although I did sample some more of the Ultra setup smorgasbord by landing ones off target combo (including walk-up target combo on wakeup, lolzarama) and air-to-air HK. GOODBYE

Need to work on st.HP x HP Galactic Tornado as a punish though, I fluffed that a few times.

I haven't played this fighting videogame all week, because I've been pretending that it's 2011 and playing portal 2. Portal 2 is good, but frankly the portal gun is totally overpowered. It makes zoning next to impossible.

Also, joeyplus, I find HP x Galactic Tornado feels a bit easier when done negative edge style; pressing and holding HP, doing the quarter circle toward and letting go. It is an oddly late cancel, compared to some others.

Cheers, I'll try that. I'm so used to cancels from crouching moves with other characters that I often end up with a hugely unsafe point-blank cr.hp instead.

I like Rufus but I've never played him because with all the love he's had on here it'd be like going out with a mate's ex.

I played Vega for a bit (not very well). I like Vega. Yodelling is where it's at.

Also: jump in massive slashy claw, close massive clawey slash, crouching middling clawey swipe magicked into special move version Flying Barcelona thingy then air grab is very satisfying.

Vega's a nightmare to play well, I tried to main him for a bit but life was such a chore. Need to be psychic with the anti-airs, especially. I think it's also where I get my hatred of rufus from.

Also donut isn't makoto/rufus one of those matches where as soon as either character knocks the other down then they're in a world of hurt. Though I can see that she'd be totally screwed against him in the corner.

Sort of, but I think it's still in Rufus' favour because mashed EX Messiah. Mak's not really got anything you can mash in a pressure/wakeup situation, unless it's Ultra 2 in the corner to escape.

Mine was always "nearly lose, then land target combo".

The only Rufus thing I like I haven't actually seen since Joffo did it to me in Vanilla once. Air to air HK, EX Snake Strike, corner Ultra on landing. Very spacing-specific, obviously, but delightful. And it did a fuckton of damage in vanilla, too.

Did you know that Rufus sounds a bit like Roofies, a street name for the drug Flunitrazepam which is often implicated in cases of date rape but is also popular as recreational drug in Sweden. Rufus looks Swedish.

Ultra 2 — Gekirinken

Fei Long's Counter Ultra has quite a lot of utility value. It will counter everything except moves that break armor. It will also counter reversals that normally break armor but do not have the armor-breaking property. For example, Rufus's EX Messiah Kick when used as a reversal will usually break armor but this Ultra will still counter it.
