Also, yes, I'll likely get Anarchy Reigns. I'm trying not to buy games though, so no one will be playing it by the time I get it. Nate has it, I'm sure.

Indeed I do, I found it simplistic in single player and a complete mess in MP. That was on import against Japanese mans, admittedly. I have a UK copy now but it's on PS3.

Urgh, apologies Sith. I tried to get a few games in against Donut, Jiro and Haggar before our match and it was unplayably laggy throughout. One of my housemates is up much later than usual it seems. Should be around tomorrow to get our games done. Before 5PM ideally as no one else should be in, or we could try after 11 again and hope we have better luck.

No worries mate, I'll be around after 11 tonight so we can try again!

He's only been playing it in SP, I think. I looked at his channel a couple of months back to see if he was having any joy with the MP and there was nothing there but campaign runs. Wonder if he's interested in it at all - he battles game systems, not other players. like the Desk of thirdperson combat games.

Also there's no point doing all those lovely extended swag combos when you're just going to get command grabbed out of it by Garuda.

Ha I met Saurian once. He tried to fix the CD drive on a PC Engine Duo I had years ago and he didn't charge me a penny when he failed. Nice chap. He was a massive Soul Calibur fan until they got rid of Lizardman I seem to recall. Also his PN03 vids are quite something,

If I bought the disc version of AE, would it spend less time checking downloadable content?

No, not really. The announcer guy says "arcade edition" after he says "super street fighter four" on the title screen, but that's about as much difference as you'll notice.

NATE

I'll be on around 8.30 I guess if that suits, for a kick-off any time after then that means I can still get to bed by 11. I can probably make it a bit earlier if that's no good for you but I'm going to have to kick someone off the internet while we play so am trying to give them a bit of advance notice!

Shh, not everyone's unlocked her yet. :P (Okay, everyone in the vanilla manual - Gen, Dan, Rose etc still need looking at...)

It's not really teleport experimentation though; I'm just trying to see if I can perform every move in the game.

Those triangle inputs :(

Alistarr 5-3 Nate Dogg III

Bare salt over here to be honest. Mad lag and alistarr mashing that messiah like it was ranked :( As with Sith, though, I'm not sure a good connection would have changed the result.

Conscious I've missed loads of results, if anyone has one missing from the bracket can they post it up so I can update?

Nate 3 - 5 Alistair

Total laggy nonsense. At first it felt fine, then there were weird spikes, then by the time we got to the final game it was letting us do things like walk into three consecutive fireballs because clearly the game wasn't reading the focus attack inputs. I was pressing it pretty hard by the time the third one hit me, so I'm reasonably confident it wasn't just me being bad at the game. Nathan suffered equally if not moreso, though, including one dropped punish that really sucked, and I mashed ultra through at least one lag-compromised combo (fortunately in the case I'm remembering my ultra traded and he won the round anyway so I got to avoid total guilt).

There was a pretty good mental game going on at times despite it all, though - Nate started the first round with a fair number of jumps, so I looked for an air-to-air j.HK, so then in the next couple of games he just refused to jump and I repeatedly sailed over his head into full and righteous punishment until I learned to stop doing it. And I spent the whole series terrified that every time I divekicked him too high I would get punished, and every time I divekicked at neutral I would get poked, and every time I just stood there at neutral I would have to guess on a step kick/throw/overhead/sweep mixup. So I still enjoyed playing, though there were moments I was fatly raging too. Hopefully we can get some sweeter games soon to clear the palate.

On the question of ranked-style EX messiahs, if it's any consolation I had a couple of tactics in my head for tonight and one of them was "Nate hates it when you play incorrectly so don't be scared to mash EX messiah just to fluster him". Still inexcusably dirty, but maybe it'll help to know that I was going to do it whether or not it was laggy, just especially for you. (My other important note was how to punish walk up target combo which I remember getting really flustered by at Heggfest, which sadly I only got to use once because the first two times you did it I just got hit like an idiot). Jason can vouch for me on this as I was getting him to help me verify the target combo punish the other day and thereby revealing to him how much I wanted to play well in this match. I think the Heggfest games we had left me feeling like we were pretty evenly matched and you maybe just about had the edge on me, but like Filipino Champ before me if I just prepared and stayed focused then I still had a shot at winning.

Ha, you swine. I was so grumpy at 3-1 and a round down that I just decided not to give a fuck and do loads of fierce DPs and to my eternal shame I won that game and the next one.

Thanks to Haggar for the helpful message, too. 'watch out for ex messiah!' indeed

There really is little in Street Fighter more depressing than jumping endlessly in on a crouching Rufus and getting cr.MPed out of the air again and again. That and trying to cross up Rose and forgetting about slide > throw. Fucking Cale.

Anyway! I'll be oan ma PC, which I set up and adore. I could do with some Steamchums, so post me some IDs.
