Ultra Street Fighter IV

JLM

Recommended Posts

Jiro was on too? Oh man. I was scared he'd gone all carlito on us.

Also, you did a Yun cross up dive kick on me last night when I was in the left corner that I blocked as crossup only for you to land in front and combo me anyway. What is this voodoo?

Many thanks to the man Plop, who absorbed my Cale and JLM matches through the power of the internet. I like watching matches back and realising how stupid I am. Especially in the one where I was taking on JLM's Dudley pretty convincingly only for him to turn into that terrifying, invincible JLM and stunned me up in the corner to death. Horrible.

Ali's Tar did some lovely Rufusing also, beautiful colours (he's right about the dark blue with the light blue belt buckle) with added link mania. That far standing medium punch connecting is still one of my favourite links in the game; so satisfying. Also; Qazimod completely Blanka'd up my gief too; I don't know what raggo means, but I think it was most definitely that, and it worked a charm! Dem electricities!

Yeah I was on for my first lobby in a long time. Got some games against Donut, Mikey McHaggarson and Gel 'Em - thanks to you all. JLM was all Chunned up and using some mad lag-switch technology. Shame, cos I think he was pulling off some filthy setups. I'm sure I fell victim to some hellish counter-hit corner-trap thing in between the 1 frame a second lag spikes. Sorry for my lacklustre Cody but I really am out of practice.

Joffo, how long have you been playing street fighter 4 and how do you not know about the corner wildness?

Basically, if you're a prick and play a dive kick character (rufus, yun, cammy) then there is some specific corner-wildness. Basically the right corner is 'bigger' then the left corner. that is to say, if you're playing as rufus and you do a horribly corpulent crossup divekick setup in the left corner, then your staggeringly rotund divekick will hit crossup but you will land non-crossup. But if your rubenesque avatar does that same setup in the right hand side corner then the disgusting sweaty butterball will both hit and land crossup.

But seriously this has been known about since like 2009 and you should probably be ashamed you're not aware of it.

Joffo, I applaud you for going for fanciness in round one of Ibuki vs Chun, trying for the jump cancel into ultra after a focus crumple, rather than just busting out straight ultra which probably would have won you the round.

Chaps, there is an SF tournament tonight in London. People are playing for one of those obesely priced Alienware PCs, I assume Ryan Hart is ready for the ting:

On Thursday 10th January, Eurogamer and our friends at Unequalled Media will host the grand final of the Alienware Street Fighter tournament; a competition that began at last year's Eurogamer Expo. The four winners from the expo will meet 12 new challengers as they attempt to battle their way through to the final bout and some awesome Alienware prizes.

One victorious competitor will walk away with an Alienware X51 desktop PC as well as an Alienware M14x gaming laptop. Runners-up don't do too badly either, as they can still look forward to claiming an Alienware M17x for first runner-up and an Alienware OPTX Monitor for the 2nd runner up.

The tournament has attracted the attention of many of the UK's top Street Fighter players and it's sure to be an explosive night. Spectators are welcome so please come along. Entry is free with doors open at 6pm. The action will begin at 7pm sharp.

PLEASE NOTE: The venue is a bar so you will need to be at least 18 years of age in order to be admitted.

Want to find out more about the tournament? Head to Eurogamer where you'll find a full write up of the first round which took place at last year's Eurogamer Expo. http://www.eurogamer.net/showcase/alienware-competition

Is he going to Red Fight District? That was a tremendous event last year, particularly Vryu's performance.

AlucarD's Evil Ryu vs BronxPuertoRock's Akuma in the STL Mass Appeal Madness grand finals:

Glass cannon fighter!

Looking back the screen goes a bit dark on the third JLM match, not sure why but I can do it again if you want?

Haven't watched yet but it might be the 360's idle mode; the screen goes dark if you leave the controller untouched for a while. I had it on one of my uploads for a very brief moment but I was at the controls so I just nudged the d-pad quickly. :) It should be ok if the darkness doesn't last for a full match or something. :D

Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition version 2012. The version 2012 bit is just a free balance patch, the arcade edition bit is DLC for Super Street Fighter IV (adding 4 characters and a host of balance changes), but can also be bought on disc for under £15. Suggests it's £13 from Shopto, but that's just google's 'shopping' thing telling me that; shopto is blocked in work. Blah.

It is worth £13. 1700 hours played and counting!

Oh, it's on play as well. I don't have the disc version of AE, I might buy it again for that price, haha:

Oh, yes, that's just Super. I had about 700 hours in vanilla Street Fighter IV as well.

You'd think I'd be better at it.

Also, yes, I'll likely get Anarchy Reigns. I'm trying not to buy games though, so no one will be playing it by the time I get it. Nate has it, I'm sure.
