Ultra Street Fighter IV

JLM

Recommended Posts

I like looking at my name on the right of that loser bracket, like a sort of mid-level boss. I don't think I could beat imp, donut, sith or JLM without some utterly wild gimmicks.

Also, I'm excited about today's pokemon announcement. Even though the last few pokemon games I've ended up buying, playing til the third gym, then drifted away. I still think it's just another pokemon themed 3DS XL, probably.

Plopboy! Thanks for all the Demon's Souls advice. Played a little more last night. Have now beaten every enemy on 1-1 (there was a knight right at the top with a ridiculous spear who kept beating me but I finally beat him) and I've got the *thing* and given it to Stockpile Thomas and I've levelled up a fair bit. I still don't think I'm ready for any other levels, so maybe I'll just play 1-1 forever.

Tonight I might spend a bit of time not doing Rufus' Messiah>Ultra FADC and then flog myself with some thorny branches.

I'm trying not to get excited about the Pokémon announcement. The sad thing is I'd be ecstatic if it was a Heart Gold style remake of Ruby/Sapphiire even though I know I shouldn't be satisfied with another rehash.

I played a few quick matches against joeplus last night, and it was good. I totally mashed out an SPD win where I should have been Rose'd to death at one point, and I fell bad about it.

Heh, at that moment I was much more annoyed with myself than you! Your Ibuki on the other hand... :hmm:

I was also amused by your Ultra-as-footsies with Dan. Pow, right in the kisser.

It's all about the knowledge and playing it safe :) Oh you must try the Tower of Latria, but with the lights out and the sound turned up/head phones :)

Soul Fighter !

edit : which was actually an early Dreamcast game if I remember right, hack and slash affair me thinks

I might be on tonight and could do some recording for anybody that needs it.

Oh hang on, looks like I missed the

Thief's Ring

in 1-1. Fuck sake.

Back on topic, we're meant to be saving up to buy a house this year. That's our Big Plan. Then last night my gf decided we should go on a safari in the serengeti. Um.

Opps :) and that piece of jewellery is quite handy. Don't worry I'm a great one for missing out on lots of important bits, though my major cock up was killing an important merchant on my first play through which meant I had to farm for hours to upgrade a certain weapon, melon.

So it's a new pokemon game! Still doesn't look like you can walk diagonally. This absolutely irritates me more than it should. I'd enjoy the games much more if it was fun just running around and doing doughnuts on the bicycle. Not that my opinion is valid since I don't bother with the more intricate aspects beyond the main story and also since I will buy it anyway.

Poor Italian and Spanish players. They have to make do with our versions of the names, whereas France and Germany get their own. I guess that's what comes of Nintendo's EFIGS localisation being in Deutschland.

The Singapore Esports league has turned out some amazing matches recently, and I love that all their matches are FT5 format. They also specify that if it goes to 4-4 you need to win by two clear games to decide it. It really allows the matches to breathe, and by the end you see some incredible reads and layers of mindgames going on that just aren't possible in a best of three.

This set between Leslie's Sagat and Tommy's Chun Li is the best Streetfightin' I've seen since Justin Wong vs Snake Eyez, and again the FT5 is what makes it. Tommy uses some gimmicky stuff early on, then just settles into playing an incredibly solid ground/fireball game. Leslie adapts by ramping up the aggression, then Tommy has to switch it up again and there's nothing to choose between them by the end. Tommy has me excited about playing Chun Li again. He is absurdly good and I don't know how I hadn't heard of him before. If you can't be bothered sitting through all of it, I'd recommend part 2 for the real highlights as there are some amazing clutch comebacks in there. Near flawless play from both players throughout though, and Tommy's reaction ultras and split second charge timings are outrageous.

I was inspired to start training Chun again after this, and I now have new Chun technology. That is to say, I have Chun Li tech. that Nuki/Nemo etc. have been doing since Vanilla but I have just recently had the lightbulb moment as to how they actually do it. I am excited. Almost as excited as I am about training a Froakie.

Sorry for ignoring you jellum! I turned off notifications the other day, because they kept appearing over dialog options in the walking dead, but now I might have to turn them back on again because I keep missing messages.

Is there a way to turn off the "x is online" messages but keep the message notification messages?

Ha, excellent. DRS Chris is really rather good. Hopefully he'll start getting a bit more recognition this year.

I just played lots of games of this against assorted randoms, before moving on to a long set against quite a new Guile player called igTerminals. The hallmarks of the inexperienced Guile player are as follows:

1) Charging with back instead of down back, therefore giving up space too easily.

2) Being too predictable with EX Sonic Boom timings.

3) Too many sweeps.

4) Too many flash kicks.

There was plenty of all of this, though he was adapting and improving as it went on and it was fun trying to keep a streak going on random select. Nice messages exchanged afterwards, and he said it was the best he'd ever played. Good guy, play him if you see him around. I won't post loads of clips of fancy combos and nice reads and such because he's clearly still learning the game, but I did get a guilty laugh out of this Honda vortex:

I've done this to much more experienced players in fairness, as the first time looks like a fluke if you haven't watched enough Mike Ross to have seen the set up before. This and pork chop into super are my favourite Honda things to do.

Elso error1 is still working on his Black Belt Edition style hacked SFIV and has just finished Rose. This is the one I'm most interested in so far, simply because of the possibilities for Rose Ball it creates:

Yassssss. Alistarr I want my runback!

I don't want to disappoint you, but have you watched this yet? Jayce repeatedly mentions that it's a guide to beating good Rufus players.

By way of apology, here's how to beat me (Nate pls don't read thx):

1. If I have EX, I will wakeup EX messiah

2. If I have ultra, I will loop endlessly through Rufus' various ultra setups until one of them hits

3. If we're at midscreen, I will ignore conventional wisdom and press st.MP all day
