Wow. That's loads in one day. I want to be were you are. I got a lot of japanese street passes in Munich and eventually started deliberately moving through groups of japanese tourists in the hope of completing my Kirby puzzle.

Also, what kind of pokey, block stringy, frame trappy nonsense should I be using as gouken?

Today I bought the jpn version of ssf4. The reasons were 3 fold

It was great condition

It was the collectors version (with CDs and art book)

It was £8

I've also bought phantom breaker and persona 4. The main reason I bought persona 4 is because imp wanted it.

Also, joffo, lyrical, I met 35 today on 3DS street pass. That's more than I've met in the UK since I got my 3DS

Ooh, Persona 4 will do you well. Vita I presume? I would totally recommend this game to Alistarr if he had a Vita.

Gouken's fat shit old fame taps are all largely based around his obscene cl.st.mp, which is at a thoroughly unhealthy +4 on block and an indecent +7 on hit. You can then fame tap them with cr.mp (1f gap) or cr.hp or sweep (2f gap). The nice thing is that they all combo on hit, so you can confirm into something beefy like ex palm for damage or into a fireball for some chip and more fame advantage. Cl.mp is his best button by miles, since it's the only one which is remotely + on block.

Poke-wise, all the good goukens seem to use st.hk and st.hp a fair amount, cr.mp into fireball when a bit closer and they abuse the hell out of his painfully safe sweep (-3 on block).

I think his block strings are mostly just mashed jabs, maybe cr.mpxfireball, nothing spectacular. I think his lp palm is safe from max distance too.

What's this winter battle symposium all about then?

Winter Battle Opera? A few dudes here playing in a tournament and seeing who is less incompetent. To give you an example, I got sent to losers' in the first round. :( (Yes, I'm still holding that L...)

EDIT: just realised that Haggar has my "jump backwards" tactics totally figured out and he's going to exploit them for a comical 5-0 win against me...

Nate I was going to suggest we do battle but apparently my girlfriend is grinding out the nextflix this week because some show she's halfway through is getting removed. But I have no plans over the weekend if that suits you, or I guess next week's evenings.

I was going to suggest leagues at some point after the tournament if anyone fancies. Maybe 4-6 people per division in a round robin, matches played whenever. Like football and that.

This was a thing shortly after vanilla dropped and they were brilliant fun. But they often ended as a bit of a damp squib due to people at the time losing interest in the game or never being around to play matches.

I would say though that those of us left (and I know I'm not exactly playing much these days but I do love a tourney) playing would be much less likely to let the side down so maybe it could be a goer again.

That said, a load of regular tourneys like the one happening now would certainly scratch the itch and are maybe a bit more forgiving for people's schedules?

Also, I'm a bit behind on some of the tourney vids but have just watched the first match of Camel and Ally*'s set and it was bloody brilliant. Such technology on show!

Back in we go...

E: finished it. Brilliant stuff, lads. Really enjoyable.

Had some excellent games earlier against Fitzcarraldo's thorough Yang; the man has links aplenty. Nice FADC > cl.mk shenanigans too; I approve. JLM was doing beast things also, as always, and then Street Fightin non-lover of Scotland God Andy (JHENDRIX87) came on to prove that Mister Samuel isn't the loudest person on mic. Good times.

I paid two dollars and ninety-nine cents for the AE Holiday Special last night and did not regret my purchase. Gootecks' "prom" analogy was worth the price of admission alone. Well, that and all the fighting.

My new year's resolution is to post in this lovely thread more often and also to not try and contribute to discussions that are at least three days out of date.

Fine games indeed. I just need to learn how to footsie and I'll start winning with Yang eventually! As well as learning how not to accidentally taunt when I'm on the verge of potentially taking a round. Whoops! Your Ibuki gave my Khal Drogo a right going over as did any character JLM decided he felt like playing at the time. And good games to Mr. Hendrix as well. :hat:
