Ultra Street Fighter IV

Camel I'd advise trying it in steps.

1. Practice focus cancelling out of a special (like an SRK) by just holding the focus buttons down.

2. Practice dashing out of a focus attack.

3. Practice doing an Ultra after dashing out of a focus crumple.

4. Put it all together.

I think the biggest thing to get your head around is feeling comfortable focus cancelling, so step 1 is probably the most important part. The second most important thing when putting it all together is not to let go of focus too early to make sure you dash out properly.

Annoying thing is I can easily do 1 and 2. I'm pretty sure I can do 3 and 4.

The trouble I'm having is that after dashing, there isn't time for two quarter circles for the ultra. I try and get them out as quickly as possible in what feels like a minute fraction of a second and usually end up with an ex gt. It almost feels like I'm dashing too late, but FADCing earlier isn't possible.

:(

I'll have another go at it when I have some time.

Also, oh god look at my button mashing in those vids.

On topic, as a bonus to the lovely bout of flu Father Christmas brought me, yesterday I discovered my kids had picked up nits so spent last night nuking the heads of all in our family. What a fabulous Christmas I've had. On a more positive note, my parents gave me a box of my favourite beer today - Geuze Boon. So chuffed.

I'm now off to a pub thank fucking god to say farewell to a friend who is about to go and live in Vietnam, the jammy bugger.

Vetoed!

I've spent most of this week starting games I've collected during the sales.

Dishonoured has lovely crafted world and the intro was pretty ace. And then it said you get a nicer ending if you don't kill people so I spent the next couple of hours sitting against walls mashing that skill that lets you see guard vision... Would it be wrong to play the game like the impatient homicidal maniac I am and then watch the good ending on youtube?

Don't Starve is nice game about picking stuff up. I tried to pick up an ox with a spear which didn't end well. It seems a bit like dark souls where you'll do soo much better with a guide but you really shouldn't!

Borderlands 2 is about carrots on sticks again and I hate it and I'm heavily addicted again.

Resolution: Stop collecting huge amounts of things which aren't as good as fighting games.

You do have to pretty fast with the old quarter circles. I've never really liked the fadc ultra input. It's typo cluttered and feels really awkward. You have to go straight from the dash into quarter circles.

There is a shortcut input for ultras, d,df,d,df,f works. Which means you can kind of jam the stick in the corner of the gate and wiggle then finish on forward. It took me quite a few hours to get

I just had some excellent games of Necro vs Dudley with Donut on 3rd Strike. Having a rematch option is a brilliant thing that should be in all of the games. It's pretty damn stupid that it isn't. Also, Donut has a ridiculous habit of parrying ridiculous things you'd never expect another human to parry, and then bloody well follows it up. Also, the dash dash corkscrew blow cheekiness fucked me up more than I should have allowed, haha. I kept getting stuck in the corner, trying to get a rhythm to parry either his overhead, sweep, or cr.mk attempts only to fail in all of it and get pecked away to stundom. Damn. Amazing times.

We should all play third stike, y'all.

Also, despite having no interest in sport, I am watching my third ESPN 30 for 30 documentary on Netflix; I watched one about Wayne Gretzky being traded to spend his life getting botox, one about Chuck Wepner being in a huff about Rocky films and now I'm on the one where Michael Jordan plays baseball, something I was actually already aware of because I've watched Space Jam more than anyone should.

I too intend to do more Third Striking in the new year. I've been playing it almost exclusively in the last couple of weeks and I'm beginning to see some improvement although I'm still far too slow to punish stuff properly and my desire to parry absolutely everything that comes my way is getting me murdered a lot. Please join me on PSN sometime, it's so lonely there.

Donk vs. Sith Top 8:

Sorry to be all picky after the excellent work getting those games uploaded for me to watch while I eat cereal and feel hungover, but this one's still top 16, not top 8.

Also have to share this moment from today's friendly games (don't worry, this is hosted on my own channel):

What an excellent preview image.

If I have one weakness more glaring than my poor execution, my weak footsies and my bad reads, it's my inability to resist throwing out an ultra in response to someone else's ultra. We had some excellent games yesterday, and carried on for a daft amount of time after you left. Then just as I was about to call it a day JLM arrived and took over from me. I can only imagine Lyrical Donut is still playing now.

We played for a bit but it was far too laggy at my end. Haggs and Donut were still fighting for a while though.

I ended up inviting a friend over, booting my housemates off the network and then playing Halo 4 multiplayer until 7 in the morning, which is pretty ridiculous behaviour. Haven't had a Halo session like that for a couple of years and it was lots of fun, particularly as there are some reeeally bad players on there so it feels like the first month or two of a new Halo where anyone who knows what they're doing and can use a BR essentially becomes Arnie in Commando. Soon I will be wandering around the maps in a daze, being picked off by a sniper who is standing on the most remote pixel of the map and laughing to himself at what a fuckin' noob faggot I am, but for now I am a GOD.

Just watched those videos up there ^^

Oof, that Ultra that Strawdonkey gets out just before Joe goes in for the dizzy punish.

Also, forgot to say thanks Alistarr for getting the vids of our match sorted.

Also also, loving the hype trailer.

Also also also, I'm at poxy work again.

I'll play. Third Striking with Joffo last night was fun. He killed me with a taunt, the swine! :)

I'm a bad person. Gotta get those challenges lightin' up! They were lovely fights though! And I'm back on playing it right now in ranked, getting destroyed. It's so good.

You bought that for the Ryu belt didn't you? That was the bit that almost tipped me over the edge.

This post will be all over the place, I'll number it:

1) I hope everyone in the best thread has a fun NYE and a day or two off.

2) My 3DS copy of SSFIV arrived today and it's really fun in its way, it'll do a job. What shocked me was when I tried the online quickly earlier and it matched me up with a (Japanese I think, is there somewhere I can tell?) Guy player and we had a smoother match than most of the ones I play on PSN. The increased difficulty in doing combos properly gives my Dhalsim an advantage I think as it's really easy to hit HP, MK and LP Yoga Fire whereas the other guys really have to fight with the controls to do anything.

3) I think we've been playing SFIV for almost four years now and that seems frightening. I can still remember my day one ranked adventures with Chun Li, hoping the game would prove to be good value after the limited edition I paid £60 for turned out to be gutter trash. Even with the DLC I think I can safely say it has been overall.

Street Fighter!

I am sad that I traded in my 3DS copy of Street Fighter IV since I obsessively did all the trials in it. I might buy it again and fight you. I should probably add you up as well and send you shit letters through Nintendo Letterbox. That's fun.

EDIT: Ha, just added you and you've already added me. Ace.

No problem; now fixed :) I had the webpage for the bracket open whilst I was entering the video info but I imagine my brain was already fried from looking at so many progress bars during editing... -_-

I think my new year's resolution would be to actually learn something with Juri's Ultra 1. I doubt I will though.
