Ultra Street Fighter IV

Too true; without wanting to troll SF4 fans, 3rd Strike can be so much more exciting than SF4 as it encourages offensive play a lot better. I loved the close-range wakeup mindgames and my countless failed throw techs though. :D

Donk - no probs; I can do capture stuffs any time :)

I might be up for playing some games with you, if I can find a spare ethernet cable anywhere. I need to start playing Rllmuk people again. I've stopped for several months due to university and all my friends back home have become much, much better which is nice. But I am very rusty in the mind, but surprisingly not in the fingers, good ol' muscle memory.

Some lovely games with Jellum there who despite dancing around the cast on random select won most of our matches comfortably, including a Ken mirror at the end that I'd have been much more salty about had I not ended the first round by trying to walk him out of one corner and into the other to throw him for the win. Drunken decisions are the best decisions.

Oh and you're right, Donut, Guile is basically Jason Kryptonite.

I think it's partly that I worked so hard on learning to play the Guile match up correctly during Super because he was such a problem character for me. As a result, I can fight Hegg's Guile but am useless against troll Guile.

And yes, those games were lots of fun. I let you walk about three quarters of the way accross the screen before panic uppercutting that outrageous walk up throw attempt. I was caught in about five minds as to what to do about it, and was a split second away from eating the throw before mashing my way to freedom.

I watched the first bit of the festive Excellent Adventures just now and it was wonderful. The Adon who fought Gootecks was everything that is bad about online Adon players, and is why I have nothing but nice things to say about Imp's. Mike Ross face cam during the final round of the episode was magical.

In other news, I did a bit of training last night because I think it's time I was better with some other characters. I tried to learn Rufus' messiah kick lk fadc ultra tingum. It didn't go well. Any tips? There is literally not enough time for my hands to do two quarter circles after doing the two fadc forward taps. I'm just too old for this shit aren't I?

Haha, there's not a great deal to do (he said, after hundreds of hours of practice). Are you hitting the first forward motion of the dash at the same time as the focus buttons? That gives you a little less to worry about.

Since new year is approaching has anybody thought about new years resolutions?

Amongst the usual stuff I think I have a few relevant ones.

1) Get better at Third Strike, I love this game but I suck so badly at it so I think I'm going to invest some time trying to learn some of the basics inside out and maybe pick a new character to learn?

2) Pick a new SFIV character, just for fun really but I think my time with Elf has taken my limited normal SF play further away from SF so I'm thinking of a new character but not sure who yet.

3) Get back on the SF exercise bike routine

Thank you Jellum, you are nice man. I was thinking the exact same thing though, all those terrible wall kicks into illegitimate uppercut. Urgh!

How did the tale of your new waterbed turn out? Electronics were okay I hope?

Yes, I think that's what I'm doing. I spent about half an hour on it and gave up in the end having not managed it even once. I was hoping there was a knack to it that I'm missing, but it sounds like my withered old hands just aren't up to the job.

Camel I'd advise trying it in steps.

1. Practice focus cancelling out of a special (like an SRK) by just holding the focus buttons down.

2. Practice dashing out of a focus attack.

3. Practice doing an Ultra after dashing out of a focus crumple.

4. Put it all together.

I think the biggest thing to get your head around is feeling comfortable focus cancelling, so step 1 is probably the most important part. The second most important thing when putting it all together is not to let go of focus too early to make sure you dash out properly.

The other thing with EX messiah FADC specifically is you can press the LK for the ender quite early, meaning you don't have to be worrying about that at the same time as doing the FADC. Try pressing it almost at the same moment as the last hit of the messiah connects and it should still come out (it needs to be just the tiniest moment after the last hit connects) and then you've got all that time of watching the LK ender come out to prepare your brain for the FADC.

I have spent the day in pyjamas in front of the fire, and just finished To The Moon in one sitting. I appear to have something in my eye.

I bought that in the first week of the steam sale. I'm yet to get around to it, but I'm very much looking forward to it.

Geegs to Qazimod and thanks for recording all those matches. Your ISP must love you...

I try not to think about that. :P Already converted the raw captures so I "just" need to stick them together and upload them. I think the YT account's enabled for longer uploads now so I shouldn't have to arse around with the editor afterwards...

In true SF4 thread style I've already recommended To The Moon to two people but haven't played it yet.

Indeed it is. Excited to see more matches, thanks for doing the capturing.
