Ultra Street Fighter IV

JLM

Recommended Posts

Excellent games there, thanks Alistarr. I was outplayed by Alistarr's completely solid Rufus and making stupid decisions and execution errors all over the shop didn't help me one bit. If the replays make it online you'll see the hilarity of me trying to get an Ultra out and teleporting ferociously around the screen instead in (I think) the second game? Either way Alistarr's consistent game was better than mine so the best player won.

Thanks for the friendlies after. Sorry for not having a larger roster of characters to choose from.

Nate, that sounds ace and also has reminded me that I forgot to reply to JLM re Arcana Heart. Yes sir, will be up for some AH3. Never taken it online so no idea what net code is like.

Looks like I need to play Nuskool!

Hey! Nuskool! When are you available?

Also, Qazimod and/or Plopboy - I have at least one set of matches to upload, and a second assuming I haven't knocked them out of my match history by accident. When are YOU guys around?

Back on topic, been giving my PS3 some love over the Christmas period, only got one in the last six months so am using the time to catch up on exclusives. Valkyria Chronicles is super lovely and it took up far too much of my time today :)

Should be around much more now that Xmas is winding down; really sorry about the overdue captures. Hopefully be on XBL in the evenings so just give me a nudge. :)

(E: daytime captures are possible since I'm on holiday before January but I don't know if I'll be free all day (insert joke about Qazi being free all day :( ))

Ali* would you have been able to use ex messiah to punish all those times that camel decided to teleport miles above your head and then gently float down?

you can't safe jump sim with ultra 1 can you?

also also can fat rufus fatly option select teleport with anything? crouch fierce?

also^3 imp I don't think I'll be on at all tonight. tomorrow perhaps?

Tomorrow sounds good, my flatmate also just got back and is intermittently iplayering his heart out.

Also, I arrived home to find a nice lagless monitor waiting to be set up. I played about 3 games online against a 3100 PP Cammy and the difference was quite noticeable. I was able to block much more stuff! My combo timing is a bit off mind.

I used EX messiah as anti-air a couple of times but it's really a bit of a waste of meter when you can get standing fierce. Given how slippery Dhalsim can be I think you really need to keep hold of meter to make sure you can maximise damage when you do pin him down. Especially when, as Nate says, your meterless BnB is so inconsistent it merits applause when you land it. Actually, now I think about it then with some of them I could probably have got a jumping roundhouse for much bigger damage, but that would have required presence of mind on my part rather than an automatic response to any teleport appearing above my head.

I think once Sim's ultra 1 is out then it stays out so the best you can hope for is a trade? I was mostly trying to jump over him when I got hit by it (either that or just getting frustrated and jumping when I should have known I didn't have time).

I don't know much about option selects, but crouching fierce is probably wildly risky because of how long it takes to recover if it misses. Probably option selecting a jump back into the dive kick would be a good idea sometimes, but I don't really manage to think about option selects much.

These in-depth questions kind of make me hope I don't have to face you in the tournament.

I've almost recovered from the bodying I received from JLM so will be up for fighting anytime you see me online, Alistarr.

Enjoyable post beating games with JLM were a further education and I was pleased to win the one or two games out of the thirty or so we played :)

Joffo, the mindgames didn't work out too well unfortunately!

I shall send you a friend request now! I may have an unwelcome social engagement this evening but I'm not working for a few days yet so will hopefully see you some time soon.

I meant ex snake strike but am an idiot.

Don't worry, I talk good theory fighter but forget it all in actual matches and just wild on buttons

I see, that makes more sense! And yes, that probably would be worth the meter quite often. It would miss if he air-teleported in low enough though.

I got this one a few months ago and am happy with it (as evidenced, I suppose, by the first recorded footage of me hitting a 1-frame link on the previous page):

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Dell-Ultrasharp-U2212HM-inch-Monitor/dp/B005MHMEFA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1356811418&sr=8-1

However it does not have speakers so you have to get one of those AV blocks for your XBOX which lets you send HDMI out and audio separately (maybe you already have one in your fancy home entertainment setup), and you have to get an HDMI to DVI cable because it doesn't have an HDMI input. To be honest I'm not sure it was the wise choice, but I do like to play street fighter on it. There's a 23" version available too.

Here's a list of monitors that the SRK folks have tested:

I have a water damaged everything now.

I arrived back in Leeds to find that my sky light had not been as closed as I thought it was. My bed is utterly drenched. To make things worse, in an attempt to make things more difficult for opportunistic burglars, I had put some valuable things inside things so they weren't in display. A couple of these things were hidden in my pillow cases and under my mattress. These things included my PS3, my Iphone and other things that don't want to be getting wet. I *think* my duvet has taken most of the damage and the precious electrical goods are damp rather than waterlogged and ruined, but I am too scared to try using any of them yet.

Bad Games guys, bad games.

On the plus side, I like that Blaq Skillz and Onine Tony have started a new Excellent Adventures spin off series. BS seemed like a nice chap when he did his Dee Jay basics video, so I approve of more things with him in.

Guys, I know. In my defence, I'm well out of practice and I'm not at 100% health. There's loads of massive clangers in there - eg, an accidental yoga mummy, an accidental forward dash when I had a sliver of health and loads of other terrible stupid stupid stuff. On the other hand Ali* played a blinder so I'm not sure it would have made much difference if I wasn't doing idiotic stuff.

In other news, I did a bit of training last night because I think it's time I was better with some other characters. I tried to learn Rufus' messiah kick lk fadc ultra tingum. It didn't go well. Any tips? There is literally not enough time for my hands to do two quarter circles after doing the two fadc forward taps. I'm just too old for this shit aren't I?

JLM, that is a terrible thing to read. I hope your goods are all good.
