Ultra Street Fighter IV

Desk showed off the possibilities of EX tatsu into entirely unnecessary fireball FADC juggle funs a little while ago. Donut likes to do go for EX tatsu - > fireball - > FADC - > Ultra 2 a lot.

With the combo I did, if you do it in the corner you can tag a few hits of the kicks version of ultra 2 on the end after the DP for NO DAMAGE. It's brilliant.

GGs Haggar. Thought I'd give my awful Ken a run of games and it was a lot of fun playing the classic Ryu vs Ken match up. The whole time I was kind of wishing I was playing as Ryu instead though. I have a variety of combos and set ups and fun stuff with Ryu but only the most basic Ken. The practise was appreciated, as Ken is on my list of characters to improve along with Ibuki and the remaining few others I still dread getting in random select.

Not Viper though. I practised fierce-feint-fierce in training the other day and got quite consistent at it (it's not nearly as hard as I assumed it to be) but then I remembered I really dislike the character and had no desire to practise anything else. It would take a looooot of practise for me to be remotely proficient with all of her high execution stuff and I'd rather spend time on characters I like, which is almost everybody else.

Hello.

Ryu v ken is a fun match, yes, and one I hardly ever seem to play. Of late my ryu has only been getting an airing against donut's yun, so it was nice to play a slightly more sedate pace of matchup and to try footsies for a change. I really need to not try and punish whiffed dp's with f+hp, but for some stupid reason that seems to be my current muscle memory. Also I appear to throw the most predictable fireballs known to man. I think I was getting better to the end. I still want ryu as a secondary. Was that ex tatsu fireball setup with him?

Can ryu still punish fireballs from fullscreen with an air tatsu, or was that taken out in AE?

Ha, I was pretty chuffed with the reads on your fireball timings. Less so on my massive execution errors.

Also imp, you are the crouch techingest of men, you love option selects! I like that Adon is corrupting you a little more each day though. +1 for Orochi Imp.

I only use a couple of them myself with Dudley because he's even more useless without them, but I'd take them over brainless escape options every time.

Oh god that's so true, I've just being doing them so long it doesn't even register any more!

I've been at the IA Jaguar kicks too. Still wildly inconsistent, but I love that landing one gives you so much time to confirm into a nice cr.MPxLK.Rising Jaguar. LK Rising Jaguar being a vortex starter, naturally. Because that's fair.

Also I think HP might be Adon's secret best button. Far standing HP goes a long way, and actually both close and far versions work as great anti-airs. I thought cr.HP was supposed to be his best anti-air normal, but it's actually quite inconsistent on some characters. (e.g. against Ryu, who beats it, although he cleanly loses to st.MK with most air attacks).

Oh god, I am scared of you having instant air jaguar kick combos. When Gamerbee does it it always looks like there couldn't possibly be time to link off it, then he does. All saltiness when I inevitably lose to your Adon aside though, I'm glad you've picked him up because it's good to be able to play against an Adon who is playing the game and learning the character and doesn't just do Jaguar Tooth - > uppercut or throw. Even when I play against a really high BP Adon they still do that, whereas against you last time you only did Jaguar Tooth twice, and both times it was for surprise chip to end a round, which is the correct way to use such a gimmicky move. The more I see Adon played well, the more I realise just how much his mid range game is being totally wasted by doing that as well.

Also that 1 round where I constantly did wakeup dragon punch was just me getting annoyed with my dreadful execution, since I'd been waking up with cr.mp instead of uppercut a few times earlier. Which is stupid. I'm going to blame the fact that I was entirely exhausted after kickboxing, to the point that today I cannot get things out of a high cupboard without wincing such is the fatigue.

Oh, is ken's sweep super punishable? I assumed it would be, and that my timing was just off.

Also I still hate trying to deal with tooth into 50/50. It makes me weep.

Ken's sweep isn't nearly as punishable as Ryu's, particularly at further ranges where the opponent's faster moves won't reach. It's -6 and Ryu's is -12. The trade off is that he can't combo into it any more outside of extremely specific situational set ups and it's much slower than Ryu's so not nearly as good for whiff punishing.

Wow, I had no idea about the disparity of sweeps!

The weird thing about combos from air jaguars is that none of it looks like it should work. Meaning hopefully if I fuck up it'll just mean a ghetto frame trap. Also thanks for saying nice things Jellum, it's very encouraging since I know he's a very very unpopular character to fight. Also no-one really needs to be that worried about Adon, I think Donut got about 8 straight wins on me last night.

I hate your Guile so much Donut. So much.

His EX flash kick is actually unblockable and he somehow causes me to miss EX Jaguar Tooth into Ultra 2 in the corner.

Also here are a few Adon combos that just look weird.

Max distance jaguar kick one to start is amazing since you can do it at just over half screen. Second one only works on big characters. Third is just a strange looking link.
