Ultra Street Fighter IV

JLM

Recommended Posts

Sterling work, gents, especially Jason's router unblockable. I've updated the bracket.

JLM faces the winner of AndyGT v Qazimod; the loser meets Plopboy. Sith and I have a playdate tomorrow night.

I probably shouldn't call it a playdate.

Oh, and youtube titling. How's about:

RWBO12 Top 16: Plopboy vs JLM

I don't think we need characters in brackets, really, but will roll with the consensus.

Also I am now wishing we did a vanilla tournament.

I've PM you and Qazi about an account I have set up for such youtubings

Speedy work there Ploppers, a +1 for you sir. As the videos go on, you'll notice that I used no less than five different Sakura outfits. Take note people!

I did shamefully forget to change taunt until the last game though. Don't take note of that.

Nate, I was going for Sakura Otoshi, you have to do it reeeaally fast and my hands went to jelly. I saw Skatan do it at Dreamhack and it blew my tiny mind.

Youtubes already! Amazing work Plopboy. One thing - I don't know about these things and trying vaguely to be helpful, but would it be easier to upload vids of the whole tie? I'm sure people can tolerate some footage of you choosing the next replay and it might be a bit mad with up to 9 videos for each match.

Anyway, I can heartily commiserate with the result. I've been there.

Me and strawdonkey's gypsy showdown should be Sunday or so.

I'd have to stitch them together, which isn't too much work but just takes time and my internet is very slow :( (I've just already started uploading them individually  ) but for longer sets you are right it would maybe be better as one video.

I love that all this ish is going to be viewable online. This is going to be wonderful content to try and stay on top of.

E: I also love the typo for the YouTube channel! Sounds way better!

I'm dyslexic so that is why :)

I'll leave it if you want or I can do proper spellings like grown ups.

So I found a thread on GAF about old usenet posts from long before I had an internet....

The best thing I've found in there is this:

As well, this whole idea of more, more, more special techniques is silly.

What's next? SF III :

Guile

O-, -O,O-,-O fierce : Guile throws a hand grenade down opponents pants,

and blows off their lower half.

Gah, not sure if I can stitch and compile these clips right now, progress bars will be going forever. Will attend to this soonish. :)

Also I think I need another PM from plop about the Youtube account as it wants a google/gmail address for me to sign in? :(

I played a Sim on ranked last night and lost. This does not bode well. I may have to brush up on other characters in case a counter-pick is required.

On the plus side, I have a been working on new stuff which I pulled off in the match. I think I did it kind of by accident against jellum the other night and then I realised it could be a thing I do non-accidentally. It's a jab on wakeup with an option selected spiral arrow to catch a backdash/teleport. The timing is kind of funky and half the time I get blocked jab into arrow anyway, but it's new and exciting, which is more than can be said for your mum. anyway I'm going to try and do it loads because STOP BACKDASHING JASON.

I only wish you could program the training dummy to choose between a couple of options on wakeup, say, so as to practice things like OS's. Sort it out, capcom.

Reverse engineer it.

So make your character the dummy and record you doing the option select. Then play it back and perform different wake up options yourself and see what you hit by and what you get away with.

It's not that so much as I want to practice that actual option select timing. If you get it wrong then you can end up doing very, very unsafe things and looking stupid.

Also, jellum, against an akuma with U2 do you happen to know if option selecting jump is any good or not? I want to know if that'd let me chase him down effectively or not, or if U2 could anti-air the jump.

Haggs, I think you'd be find OS'ing a jump, U2 is so ludicrously slow that I think you'd still be safe.

Also I think I am being unfairly tarred with the backdash brush. Yes, that's a brush. Last time we played I feel I struck a good balance between doing things on wake up and just being patient and blocking, and ended up doing more of the latter. I had the best punish on your back dash too: meaty fierce sho-oken confirmed into super. No option select, just a hard, throbbing read. I did a little squeal when it happened, so it's a good thing my mic wasn't on at the time.

Speaking of reads, Mr. Kimokoan makes me love him a little bit more every time he uploads a replay.

2:00 in for a little piece of magic:

Hey Fei. Fei. Fei. Sit the fuck down.

On topic: I'm really enjoying these terribly tedious news stories about tax evasion vs tax avoidance, because they put me on the edge of my seat waiting for someone to Kent Brockman it up and make my year. I am easily entertained.

Mike Haggar. I think you should stop worrying. I wouldn't know an OS if it threw a grenade down my trousers so I don't think you've got much to worry about.

I'm at a wedding writing things on the Internet about a video game. Something has gone horribly wrong.

Uploading my set with andygt now. Haven't had time to browse through the thread so I don't know if I've been fired for my delays yet, but it would have taken forever to upload the set last night, and I was having trouble getting onto the YouTube account - shoutouts to plop for sorting me out. :) It's five separate videos at the mo, but I can probably sort something better out later if necessary. I'm still on hand to do recording for other people's matches in the meantime.

I have looked up option selects in the past (okay, after Jason repeatedly punished my many wakeup backdashes with jHK OS Ultra) but I soon realised I have more fundamental problems to my game than that and I'd be better off concentrating on those. No point worrying about putting the right spin on the ball to line up the black until you can actually pot a red, if you see what I mean.

I dunno, option selects are pretty much entirely execution based, it's not like you have to think loads before you do them. Depending on your character, the execution isn't even that hard. that's why a lot of people complain about them, they're a relatively braindead way of shutting down someone's wakeup. to continue the snooker metaphor, it's a bit like having two goes at the same shot with no penalty if you miss one of them.

Yeah I get that Haggar, but what I mean is that while I feel like I understand the game better all the time because I watch so much of it, there's no point trying any of the advanced stuff when I struggle so much at the basics.

And sure, the JHK Ultra OS is easy enough, but I watched a video a while back of a Ken one that involved a terrifying volume of inputs and I figured I should at least get uppercut FADC U1 down before I worry about stuff like that.

Sith! Yes. Me too. Don't suppose you could make it 7pm instead, could you? Turns out the wife's home earlier than I thought.
