Ultra Street Fighter IV

JLM

Recommended Posts

Just watching that John Choi vs Lamerboi set Haggar posted. I have rambled on about how much I love John Choi's wonderful old school fundamentals before so I will keep it brief. 1:35-1:37 is, for me, as hype as any XWAX Solid combo. I should watch more Thursday Night Throwdowns. There are some fantastic players in NorCal and I always enjoy Magus' commentary. There are just too many streams these days.

Also Western Wolves have suspended Ryan Hart indefinitely, presumably waiting to see if MadCatz want him thrown off the team or not. I hope not as it's a very uncharacteristic slip up from him and he's generally quite a gent.

It's not. He slagged off Madcatz on Twitter because they flew Mago out to the London qualifier even though him, F-Word and Andreas were already there representing WW/Mad Catz. He swiftly deleted it afterwards, but it was too late.

This, however, is spoilery:

It was really a spoiler. Nate I am sorry, and I hope my flimsy attempt to cover it stops it from ruining your viewing experience.

"Kevin/Cameraman from CC Asia is not one of my favourite commentators and also seems like kind of a dick."

I wasn't sure who he was but yeah... he did seem a bit of a dick. Chi-Rithy was sat next to me and went up to play a match on stream and Kevin took his seat (I thought just keeping it for him), when he cam back Kevin told him to find somewhere else lol.

I need to go back and NuSkool spot now that I know where he was sitting.

Oh, also Mr. NuSkool, do you know what happened that had Logan asking if their were any medically trained people in attendance?

Yeah, really nice. I felt a bit bad actually as he took the pic of me and Combofiend and I think he expected me to ask for one with him too.

It was a really interesting day overall made especially great by being sat on the second and third rows the entire time. To start with I was sat between ProblemX and Ryan Hart who were betting £1 (high rollers lol) with each other on things like, in the Fei v Fei matches, the first person to land a successful rekka or if when the round was over the clock was even or odd. After the break I moved forward a row and was sat behind Mago and Momochi (I have a pic somewhere lol), next to F-Word and then eventually Chi-Rithy.

I didn't get to see... i didn't want to get up in case I lost my seat lol.

I won't be going to SvB because I'm so far and foreign. Were there any scottish types playing in Telford? I'll probably go to their next Hypespotting tournament in March. Especially since it's very literally just around the corner from work. I tried and failed to Dan my way to moderate victory last time. I did get to entertain on the big projector screen though. I might well use someone I'm better with. And also get better with someone in the meantime.

When is JLM entering a tournament?

Also, I bought that Sonic and Sega Hedgehog Transformers game since it was pretty damn cheap in Tesco. I've played for half an hour, using Ulala (I like that the announcer pronounces it both ways I do in order to keep me uncertain) and so far I've failed to place first even once.

Ha, I made a post in the thread about that game praising the announcer for mixing up his pronunciations to keep things fresh and ambiguous. I particularly like that he does this with Danica Patrick, who is a real life person who they probably could have asked, but what they did is much better. Also if you turn his volume down he'll ask you to turn it back up and then praise you for doing so. I like him.

Also I was in a race and Nate was there but people dropped out before it finished but I finished second and then it stayed on the post-race screen saying "waiting for players" for absolutely SEGA so I quit to the dashboard and tried to get 999,999 on Streets of Rage 2 again and failed.

I dunno about tournamenting. They do some things in Bradford sometimes. If I have time/money I might go to one of those things.

I kinda feel bad because it's clearly a big Sega love-in and I was a complete Nintendo kid. I was playing the afterburner stage with the music blaring thinking I'd totally be going "Fuckin' YEAH!" I've I'd ever played more than 10 minutes of the game before. I did grin when I landed on a Monkey Target though. I think the most nostalgic Sega game for me is probably between Safrai Hunt, Kid Chameleon, that hidden snail maze game on the Master System and Transbot.

Also, I was gonna download Streets of Rage to watch the replays and stuff. I still might, if it goes on sale again. I don't really like it, though eh, because I'm a heretic.

That is his optimal BnB, though he also has the jab infinite that works on most enemies. The main thing to do with Axel aside from those is to make good use of his jumping down + punch knee drop thing for tick grabs, beating sliding sweeps etc. Doing the 999,999 run is mostly about crowd control, making use of the invincibility frames you get during your specials and during throws to stop yourself getting hit when you're surrounded. Also exploiting the very exploitable weaknesses some of the bosses have. Some of the tricks people use in their replays are hilarious. I always used to think Axel was the best character when I played it on the Mega Drive but it's actually Skate, closely followed by Max, with Axel third and Blaze last. Axel's still my favourite though, and I can feel smug about it now because he's low tier.

I always picked Axel because he looked like he'd be decent. I don't think I've even tried the others - Max looks like he'd be the slow one, Skate looks kind of feeble, and Blaze is just there for

I had a wank over Blaze from Streets of Rage II game. I got to level 3 and cum.

yeah, that.

I've been meaning to buy it for multiplayer shenanigans, but if everyone's dropped it already then I'll have no-one to play with :(

I have only ever used Axel. f,f+P all day. Well actually, knee drop, grab, smack, smack, jump over, suplex thing, then f,f+P on their wakeup.

When I played through SOR2 again last week I realised that neutral jump K totally does for that weird wobbly elastic head thing in the foggy forest level, and felt all smug at fighting game science proving useful in a 20 year old game.

I never drop SOR2. If my Xbox is on and I can't decide what to do I will invariably play through that game. I'm not good at playing it on co-op because my internal monologue is shouting at the other player for not landing on their feet when they get thrown and such. I'd still like to try an online co-op run though, plus in two player you can do fun stuff like getting Max to do his grab that hits repeatedly while Axel jabs them from the other side for absurd damage and entirely unnecessary enemy abuse.

Ha, yes Nate, I have been applying fighting game science to it too and finding it genuinely beneficial. When you fight Shiva at the end, his flash kick thing whiffs completely if you neutral jump, allowing you to punish with f f + P, then you can walk to a specific range and bait him into doing it again. Bit of match up knowledge that makes him so much easier to deal with.

Also the biker/weather condition guys have that ridiculous punch that comes out in half a frame and they do it on reaction to you whiffing a jab so there's no way you can stop it. Amazing fundamentals those guys.

I'd be up for it. I don't know enough to say what needs changed about any character in particular, but if they add in functionality to the online stuff to make sure players spend more time fighting that waiting in lobbies then thay would be great. Being able to host and not fight, better replay sharing (even through an in-game messaging system if not youtube), system direction nonsense, online training modes.

Would Capcom be likely to give the go-ahead on this, though? It doesn't seem like the sort of thing they could charge for, really, unless they go down the adding characters route, which will bring out all the bitter "capcpom" opinions (even though they all buy it anyway). And Microsoft charge for the updates too, right? I still vote for a next gen launch re-do of the game; mechanically identical but just polished up with more versatile and fun options online.

I'd buy it all over again even if all they did was make Dan's taunt do damage.
