Ultra Street Fighter IV

It's a wondrous thing. It makes me happy that two people I like on a podcast finally got given a real shot at running a big project and they basically just ruined all other games with it.

Also I got a 3DS today with NSMB2, Portrait of Ruin and some Advance Wars game that's not the first one. And a free plastic fire Mario figurine which I am more smitten with than I'd care to admit.

Haunts and Combofiend are expected at Winner Stays On tonight, usually starts about 7 - http://www.twitch.tv/armshouse

So yeah, Haggar declared the last match in the lobby last night, and I went for a double perfect, but he fucked me up. You know this already though.

I also thought I was bodying Jellum quite consistently. I checked the score at one point and was quite surprised to see he had 15 wins. Nice work with Yang there though, considering he's really not very good these days. The score probably would've been in your favour if you hadn't fallen for so many empty cross up > EX Upkicks > Ultra juggles in the corner though :(

Mago and Momochi are going to the qualifier in Telford this weekend.

Oh, and

Blumjeff Goldlee. I would love that. I liked how there was a reference to "Old Breckon's place" in the farm episode too.

Video games.

I think it's cheating that the thumbs ended the countdown to tears themselves though.

Ha, empty jump EX upkicks into ultra was getting so infuriating but I would not learn my lesson. I'm usually quite good at reading and adapting during a long set but I couldn't train myself to block in that situation. I think it's because I felt I had to constantly challenge your buttons to stay competitive and couldn't make myself sit still when you landed right next to me like that. Will have to FT10 or FT20 it again some time soon anyway. Another problem for me with Yang is that on player one side I have a recurring execution error where I do rekka rekka FADC backwards instead of forwards, whereas on player 2 side I get the extended combo or close MK reset or whatever I actually wanted. This doesn't happen with any other character, and I think it's because my inputs get sloppy when I'm churning out rekkas and I can't break the habit of doing them too fast. Hopefully 50 more straight games of Yang will help.

I'm just starting on the Dreamhack singles tournament so I'll have to hold off on that Laugh vs Skatan match for now. Teams was lots of fun, highlighted by Ixion reverse OCV'ing multiple teams with his excellent Dan. Nice to see he isn't just an online warrior and can still be great against strong players like Skatan in tournament. I like that he's come up with a completely unique style of Dan rushdown with his own frame traps and gimmicks that are completely different from the small handful of other notable Dan players. The commentators rightly pointed out that sometimes learning an obscure character with no solid template or inspiration to emulate can make you much more creative in your approach. It helps if you're an excellent player too of course. Skatan and MBR did some excellent trolling in teams as well, and Skatan did a Sakura style combo I didn't know was possible and will be doing in lobbies soon.

I've heard lots of gushing praise for The Walking Dead, but unfortunately I've had episodes two and three thoroughly spoiled because I got engrossed in listening to them talk about it on Joypod. I'm experiencing it via the medium of Elmo recapping his playthrough, which I imagine is not the correct way to do it. Lots of people reporting crying and wrestling with the big decisions though. Sounds good.

Also Audrey Tautou is so beautiful I suspect she may not be a human.

Ha, Raggo is amazing. I like that every region has their own term for the just do it uppercut and I think the UK's is the best. F-Word is one of my favourite commentators from any region. I have to suppress the urge to shout "doooooon't backdash blad" any time I catch someone doing it. Also "fame taps" (I touch you blad I make you famous!) and "oooh ready for the ting" if someone has great reactions or doesn't fall for a gimmick.

I didn't realise it was A Thing. I watched some of the Dreamhack top 8 at the weekend and F-Word went "I wanna see something raggo! Raggo Chicken Wing!" and I pretty much laughed myself a new hole. Raggo is a word I will forever associate with Cale, who says it plenty, which makes it even better.

Speaking of Cale he posted a photo on Facebook the other day and he's shaved his beard off and is yet to explain himself and I am sort of freaking out.

Yup, that's it. I am now contemplating driving up to Telford on Saturday. It will never happen. Nice to have them here, though. Where's it held? That's not the Namco centre on the South Bank is it? Looks like it.

No idea what's up with Cale. I assume he has an enormo-problem with Movember like any right-thinking beardo - facial hair is for life, not just for ironic japes, dangit. Maybe he's having a big operation on his stupid lovely face. I should probably call him I guess.

It's Gamerbase in HMV Trocadero. I'm hoping we get Combofiend and F-Word on commentary at least for a few matches.

Imstilldadaddy is in attendance this week too. I hope he gets destroyed on stream.

Also Ryan Hart never loses Sagat mirrors, not even against BonChan.
