Aw come on Nate, the suspense is killian me.

Speaking of SFxT there were notes over on SRK earlier saying that the patch is due on 29/01/2013 and it contains these things among others:

Normal Throws

In addition to reducing the frames on start up from 7F to 5F, we’re considering tweaking throws to make them more viable as a way of defeating your opponent’s defenses. We aren’t looking to up the damage of normal throws with this tweak, so much as we are trying to speed up the matches.

The Vitality Gauge Shaking

We’ve gotten a lot of feedback asking us to stop the vitality gauge from shaking when taking damage. However, we’ve also heard some folks say that having the gauge shake makes it easier to see who took damage when viewing replays. Both points make sense, however since fighting games require players to make split-second, situation-based decisions, we’ve decided to go with tweaks that improve visibility for the person actually fighting the match.

Quick Combos

We’ve also had some feedback telling us that Quick Combos will activate without the player meaning to execute them. Seeing as this really hinders gameplay—which is something we really want to avoid—we’re thinking out how to make it so that this doesn’t happen.

Speaking of SFxT again, Mike Ross has played it again in patched form and he wants us all to think its good again.

Earlier today, we posted the release date for Street Figher X Tekken's v2013 patch. During the discussions in the comments Mike Ross gave his thoughts on the timeouts and pandora mode.

All I'll say is I got to play 25 games of it. Out of those 25 games there were 0 timeouts.

This alone gives me enough hope and reason to pick the game back up when it drops.

I tried pandora like 4-5 times, still useless lol. I do wish it was more practical, but then again maybe I'm just doing it wrong, but I doubt it.

While there isn't an extreme amount of detail here, he does confirm that he's played v2013 and out of all the games there was not a single timeout, which like himself should give many fans hope.

Back on topic I got some books this weekend, Underworld by Dom Delillio and a short story collection by Borges. Underworld looks huge and intimidating and wildly postmodern and all that. Have any of you men read it yet? Also I like Borges most because he always said he was too lazy to write a novel, so all of his work is incredibly dense short stories which wild with your head.

I'm such a pretentious ass.

I might look into Borges. I like short stories. I like Raymond Carver, Richard Brautigan and Anton Chekov. Is he exactly like those? Because I will read half of the first story before going back to Street Fighter if he is.

I played a little SFxT yesterday, as well as KoFXIII and SSFIV. Trials mode in all of them. KoF is really satisfying but damn difficult. I've not doen the full set of trials for anyone yet.

I'm not that far into Borges yet, but he seems to like to try and explore odd juxtaposing ideas in philosophy and religion. Best is how he keeps referencing 1940's Argentine intellectuals who I have never ever heard of.

I've never read any of the short stories by any of the men you mention. The last short stories I read were by David Foster Wallace, and these are not like those. DFW is just so unduly prolix that even his short stories are almost novellas, wheras Borges seems to constantly be striving for utmost economy in his writing.

Most Richard Brautigan short stories are a couple of sentences long. He doesn't reference any 1940s Argentine intellectuals.

My internet gets switched on remotely on wednesday. It's from Sky. I bet I can't connect to JLM.

EDIT: Also! I saw a car on the M8 yesterday with the registration W66 JLM. I did wonder if it was the man himself, parading north in celebration of another win streak.

A person on another forum once sent me a picture of a number plate he'd seen that read HI5 JLM. High five JLM! It was so motivational. I then got someone to photoshop it onto the front of a Fiat Multipla because the idea that somebody submitted design sketches for that car and had them approved is hilarious to me. That car is surely a practical joke that got seriously out of hand. It was my forum signature before I realised how much I dislike forum signatures and their thread-disrupting ways.

GGs yesterday Mr. Donut. Was nice to get some lag free fighter in.

It looks like you've been practising with Yun, as you were doing a different and more damaging b'n'b combo and fancier genei-jin juggles than last time I played you. I was trying to land some of the Yang silliness I've been practising in training. Extravagant EX Palm FADC resets are the new hotness. EX Palm - > FADC - EX Palm is also great, partly because it actually allows Yang to do a big chunk of damage and partly because double wall bounce combos look so weird in SF4.

Also apologies for my very basic Bison. He's on my list of weak characters I'd like to level up a bit. So far all I have is decent footsies, his one basic frame trap that everyone uses, dash up and throw, the ability to resist doing one of his thirty reversals on every wake up and long combos that are big on hits and meter but extremely low on damage.

The one I've been doing in training is:

cr. jab - > cr. jab - > standing jab - > cr. MK - > Scissor kick - > FADC - > cr. jab - > cr. jab - > standing jab - > cr. MK - > scissor kick - > FADC - > cr. jab -> cr. jab - > standing jab - > cr. MK - > scissor kick. Fifteen hits, four bars, NO DAMAGE. It's amazing. I love how long his close standing jab takes to allow for extra charging time. Smart stuff.

In a real match I tend to just do one rep of it because I don't have four bars a lot of the time, but it's so satisfying to hit and so obnoxiously long even without the third one.

Oh, and I wanted to point out that I wasn't trolling by picking Makoto for Makoto mirrors. I meant to pick Dudley and she's right next to him. I started absent-mindedly mashing A and it was too late to change. I ended up stealing your colour as well, just to make it seem like a real dick move. You counter-trolled by not getting grabbed by my Hayate cancel set up and thn ultra-ing me for it though.

Also I wish I could give Nate's Seth Killian picture more than one +1.

I once got Makoto in a mirror against Donut and cheekily won it, before retiring from reality as the ultimate rags to riches success story. It will never happen again. So much damage from uncalled for ex hayates because I knew he expected better from me. He was wrong.

I do like all those overlong Bison combos. I tend to do a lot of focus crumple dash in cr.lk x4 stuff because I just enjoy it too much. Unless I'm playing JLM, in which case I go for the normal-fest ending in a standing HK, because he said he likes that once.

I am really eager to find out this SFxT gossip from Nate. I always got the impression Seth was having a hard time masking a lack of enthusiasm for SFxT. I guess maybe he already knew he was leaving? From what I've read he's remained pretty professional in his attitude about it all though.

When I played SFxT I was offline, and it went onto version 1.00 for some reason; my DLC characters weren't there, though my costumes and colours were? Pretty odd; I really wanted to practice some Sakura. I feel kinda guilty that I only use Rufus, especially since he was so wildly strong. I don't think he'll ever be respected though, whatever the nerfs. Dive kicks be damned. I should learn some more reliable Ibuki stuff I guess.

I will definitely be playing it again when the big patch arrives. It's still fun!

Also where has everyone (donut) been in the last week or two? Every time I've looked at the online list there's hardly anyone playing most of the time, so I just sourly play dark souls instead.

sort it aaaaaaaht.

I think the sum total of my playing over the past week was my one response to Curtis' invite recently. Still distracted with shooty games but I'll accept most invites I'm given.

Also, I got a load of MS points as an early birthday gift last weekend; any fighty stuff I should get? (I already have HD Remix, SFIII 3rd, Marvel 2 and, uh, SamSho2 :hmm: )

Hasn't there been an update for SkullGirls recently? I've not checked. Or played it. I am guilty of being a bit too embarrassed about the pervy side of it as well. A shame, as I appreciate the effort made in introducing new players to the more complex (yet fundamental) aspects of fighting games which, despite being decades old, still aren't made at all clear to newcomers. The tutorial didn't fully deliver what I hoped it would, but it was a great step in the right direction. The game being pretty complicated in it's own way probably didn't help, though.

Rocket Riot's demo is worth getting if you know some humans.

Kind of. There are assists and teams. But as far as I can remember there is also bog standard 1-on-1.

Animation wise, it resembles Vampire Saviour a lot. As in, a medium kick is rarely a leg kicking at mid height.

It is a bit. That's what made it too mad an complicated for me. What with the option to choose 1, 2 or 3 characters at once as well. It's a great idea but I have no clue how well implemented or balanced it ended up being since I'm just awful at it. And also I don't think I ever played anyone at it either. Too many fighting games. SFxT came out then I played that for ten minutes before going back to my rut in SSFIV. I had a brief foray into Marvel 3, and I enjoyed it, but I never won a match without feeling like I ought to apologise to someone.

Guilty Gear was the latest. Really enjoy it a fair bit more than BlazBlue, no idea why as it's pretty similar... I guess Metal and pool cues. Watched some extreme combo videos and feel a bit overwhelmed. I basically wish I had a local human to practice with; I'd play a lot more. I should just stop SSFIV as I'm too comfortable with it. I'm not great at it, but I've got a pretty decent, broad knowledge of how it all works and I'm not putting any effort into learning to improve with anyone in particular. It's so, so good though; any other game a defeat leaves me utterly bemused.

I am tempted to get a bit more specialist with a character in time for another wee trip to Arcade UFO in March though. I wanna be able to beat off a whole gang of men.

Oh, paying's the least of it.

I want to train up on my anti-ibuki stuff. I didn't realise until watching the Desk videos on FADC mania that I could counter the Ibuki unsafe block string of mk spin kicks into sweep by focus dashing through the sweep. There's probably a lot of stuff I could punish with that. Rufus could pretty much get target combo into ultra from that, provided his fat dash is fast enough?
