Ultra Street Fighter IV

GGs Mister Samuel. Credit lots of lovely offline fighter at Alistarr's for my tier-whoring and those delicious Akuma combos. Leaving after you break my streak, there needs to be a name for that. A sage quit perhaps, because it is wise to end on a win (and make me end on a loss, you git).

Nate, I am sorry if I make the game not fun for you. That's rubbish. I like fighting your Evil Roo with the pretty combos.

Haha that's true Sith. Juri vs T. Hawk is so hilariously one sided that I could barely stand watching it at EGL.

Haha, sorry, bit of a dick move I know. but I need to be up early in the morning since I have to go and buy running shoes and other exciting things like that so was going to call it a night soon anyway. Your akuma was very good. I wondered why you chose ultra 2. Now I know! No punishing teleports for me!

I really need to wakeup uppercut less. I swear it gets me killed often as not. Still, at least I ha one round where it went alright.

Also I have no idea what option selects cammy has to beat back dash, which you abused with gen. I actually tried a few sweep ones out mid match and none worked. Need to work on those.

Yes, we ran a good deal of offline Oni vs Akuma at Allystah's and tried to do snazzy combos and I practised some broken set ups. I can rattle off four bar Akuma FADC combos and adjust them to suit a crouching opponent quite consistently now. Watching lots of Infiltration of late has helped as well.

Yes I do back dash all the time with Gen. I still only dabble with him, and the less comfortable I am with a character the more likely I am to do stuff on wake up.

Yeah, Ultra 2 to allow teleport vortex escapes is so useful against the Cammys and Ibukis of the world. That said, I pick it more often than not anyway because landing standing fierce - > teleport cancel - > Ultra 2 is still my favourite Akuma thing, so sometimes I'll pick it in a match up where it makes no sense.

Not uppercutting/doing stuff on wake up is definitely one of the hardest things to do in this game, and it's particularly dangerous for Cammy because her DP is so easy to make whiff and is so punishable. I'm so glad I did most of my fundamental learning of this game with charge characters and didn't get into the habit. With Chun's EX SBK, it's only a useful wake up move if you leave it as late as possible. If you guess with it they can neutral jump and punish so easily, and it's also incredibly easy to safe jump. In a lot of instances it works best with non-reversal timing, so I've been trained to do wake up stuff half a step later than someone with a DP.

My problem is that I don't reversal often enough in some instances, particularly when I'm playing a grappler and someone is fighting me as if I'm not a grappler and taking massive liberties with their pressure, but I'd take that over doing it too often. When I am using uppercut characters, I'm in the habit of inputting the reversal uppercut motion once, so if I'm doing it after blocking a jump in with low block stun, there's a fairly clear window when you can do it, and if I'm doing it with consistent timing I'm better placed to see if it hits/is blocked and react accordingly. I find Uppercut - > FADC -> Ultra much easier to confirm than Mashing - > FADC - > Ultra. With Dudley in particular, you're spending three bars if you're using reversal uppercut, so you'd better make sure you get max damage if it hits.

Anyway, enough blathering on. That was much fun and we should do it again some time. Your perfect round was brutal, I love Akuma's combos and I love that set up off a forward throw in the corner where I can do cross up LK and have it land in front or behind depending on the timing. Filth.

I played a bit of Rufus vs Akuma the other night against a nice chap who's at a similar level to me with a few other characters, and couldn't work out if there was anything I could do to chase down teleports. Can I stop him doing them by timing meaty attacks correctly or would they come out anyway? Or do I just need to guess which way he's going and jump/dash accordingly?

I also played an awesome short set of Rufus vs Abel yesterday against someone I don't know which started with him doing no command grabs because he was scared of double dive kicks, so I didn't bother doing any and just went crazy with buttons and throws, then he started command grabbing me a couple of games later, so then I started doing multiple dive kicks to punish him for a while and got some comprehensive victories. then he stopped doing command grabs as often and started pressing anti-air buttons and won a couple more, so for the last couple of rounds I was doing stuff like dive kick into ex messiah FADC ultra to punish his anticipatory anti-dive kick buttons. By the end it felt like the matchup came down to whoever made the most of their knockdown pressure in any given round. Very fun. I think I'll try and play this game more often.

On reaction your best option is a crouching fierce so he at least eats some damage each time.

Other than that you do have to guess which way he's going, but if you want a full punish it's really easy to option select a jump to make sure you get there in time. So go for whatever meaty dive kick pressure you had in mind, then input up-forward or up-back just before the dive kick makes contact. If he's not there to get hit by it then your jump will come out and you'll be next to him before his teleport ends. You still have to know/guess which teleport he'll do, but it's more reliable than reacting with a jump, particularly online and with how close Rufus needs to be for close fierce into galactic tornado.

Here is a rough thing I made up. You know the dirty Rufus set ups better than me, but it illustrates the principle. Excuse the extremely loud button noises of me playing as Akuma trying to get out of it:

If I block:

If I reversal DP:

If I reversal teleport:

Okay, I guess now I've asked for the knowledge I'm going to have to try and make use of it by learning my first actual option-select. Thanks for the ridiculously detailed response.

Tonight I will either be playing this game or playing that other game I sometimes play.

I thought I was having a bad morning because my housemate in the room next to me is being violently sick on account of excessive Malibu consumption but refuses to let her boyfriend walk her down the short flight of stairs to the bathroom, but your thing is much worse.

Yes, a number of them.

What seems to have happened is that upstairs had a very small leak from the pump which feeds their shower, as in like a trickle. And over weeks or months it's presumably built up somewhere and the ceiling finally gave way at 6am.

I guess it explains the musty smell that's been hanging around the last week or two.

Only a little trouble. And it was worth it for all the adventures that were had.

Lots of games against Qazi and Curtis which were good fun as always. Then some training mode to try out JLM's thing above. Then endless battle which pitted me against a famous Hakan (I won one game and got bopped the rest of the time). Then Then some more games against the Akuma player I mentioned above (I got the option-select working occasionally but seemingly not fast enough to do the punish I thought would work. As I was sleeping I realised I probably could be doing j.HP into a combo rather than trying to land and just starting with st.HP, so I guess I'll try that next time). Then more Rufus vs Akuma with JLM which was a lot of fun despite Rufus complaining constantly about the matchup. We even did research into blocking Akuma's nonsense low and high.

Then it was nearly 3am and a sleepy person appeared asking me to stop talking so loud. On the plus side, that meant I actually got some sleep so might be able to do the ironing today and perhaps even play street fighter again later.

Due to it not being your fault you should be able to contact the people upstairs insurance (if they have any) and explain the situation. They should send a loss adjustor round to see what the deal is at your end. If they haven't got insurance or they won't play ball, you should contact you insurance explaining the situation and they should be able sue for your costs against the other party (if they have insurance) and of course you have the relevant insurance.

This of course might well be bollocks and not applicable to your case but it might help oh and the best I can come up with is

Diago Umbrella

which would also work for Rihanna songs, Biffy Clyro cover songs and wet weather days.

I played Dark Souls and did very little of anything. I've been wandering back and forth mulling over whether to go try and fight Ornstein and Smough now or whether it's worth trying to get me a fire weapon first. Think I'm just going to see how it goes without, but I hate that fight.
