I assume Nate will go to write a piece for his journal, and blag loads of freebies on his twitter account in exchange for not reporting all the wild administrative shortfalls, or something. whatever it is that games journalists do these days.

@NateEdge SVB hype is OFF THE CHARTS #betterthanevo #svbcompo

You can play causals at SVB, but most of the time I was there last time I ended up milling about from pool to pool trying to find juicy matches to watch. I did get a brief casual set on SF4 and a quick go on the Marvel 3 preview build, but I was there for close to twelve hours and probably played Streetfighter for maybe two. I wasn't bored because Joffo and Hegg were about and because there were lots of fun matches to watch either featuring "name" players or (more importantly) featuring people you knew and wanted to support. However, without the company I would definitely have been flagging because it was a loooong day of standing around waiting for the most part.

I would hope that the organisation has improved since I went though, because the waiting time to play my pools matches was pretty absurd, and there was no indication as to then it might start so you couldn't really duck out or go into the second room to play poverty fighters.

Finals day was excellent though. Having Daigo there in particular really made it feel like a major, though the hypest match in SF4 was young Yota from London pulling out the win against Evans' Fei Long and all the London players rushing the stage to celebrate with him.

If a few 'mukkers are definitely going then I'd like to go along for sure.

Also re: casuals at SVB, the best way to guarantee casuals is to bring your own set up. They have spare TVs but people bring their own consoles/games/sticks. I'm not going to bring things in case imp makes fun of me though.

Oh, and if we do go we need to get a lock on Emperor Cow's position early on and wait for the meltdown when he loses.

So sick!

Sorry to drop out with nary a word but I had urgent cooking to do.

JLM, to continue our conversation, yes this weekend is a go if you can make the journey. Also if anyone else fancies playing street fighter in north manchester on Saturday night, just shout at me and it will be so. I guess you should try and shout something that communicates your desire to join us for street fighter, though, not just any old random words.

It's so ridiculous how many of our Makoto vs Dudley matches go like that. They can both kill each other so fast. You can see in your comeback that after my suicidal wake up uppercut whiffs I'm going to just eat the next bunch of mix ups because I know I can't afford to whiff another one against your relentless stun/damage machine. It's also funny how silly most of the reads and decisions look as a result of us playing the match up too many times. I go for very silly no FADC EX uppercuts against you that I wouldn't against anyone else, but it's because I've seen X situation so many times and know what happens there nine times out of ten.

Allystah, yes, Saturday IRLfighter sounds good, though if we play Brutal again I might rage quit your house.

Also I watched a load of Canada Cup stuff last night and bonchan is excellent. He looks like a kind of young version of someone who, when he's about 50, would be some kind of terrifying and imposing yakuza boss, with his stocky physique and wild hair and constant expression of slightly dissapointed nonchalance. I can sort of imagine him sat behind a really well appointed desk with his arms folded in a terribly powerful way, mouth slightly downturned, barking orders at his foot soldiers in a the kind of loud barking voice that only japanese shogun warlords in their mid 50s seem to have.

Then presumably he goes off to a hot-tub full of shrieking geishas and he drops the austere mask and just has a laugh and a few games of street fighter with them, perhaps picking ibuki for shits and giggles.

It loses to EX Karakusa and wake up ultra 2, but it still covers two of her stronger options nicely and isn't quite as telegraphed as the safe jump roundhouse. It took me while to find a set up to make the kidney blow hit meaty so you can't stand tech/wake up with buttons to beat it either. I need a few variations on it though, because the towards + fierce is a very obvious normal to whiff to set it up. I guess the idea is that eliminates those options and allows you to pressure as well as occasionally hitting though. It doesn't catch Rose's or Chun's back dashes either, naturally.

You can use his other ultra instead if you want it to cover teleports though, and you can also do EX machine gun blow instead of either ultra to chase back dashes.
