Ultra Street Fighter IV

Teach me how to be good. I was using Faust but Venom seems a touch more conventional while still being excellent so I might use him for a bit. I like that the achievement for training mode is for spending 10 hours in there, haha. I watched a couple of the tutorial videos which are now on the third page of eventhubs and it seems similar enough to BlazBlue, which means I'm fucked!

I totally spent today in Kamakura and on Enoshima Island which is absolutely beautiful. The great buddha at kotokuin temple in kamakura was awesome as are the Iwaya caves on Eno Island. The rail ride along the coast was also a highlight.

We went to Freshness Burger when we got back which was delicious, so thanks for the recommendation. We then wasted about an hour looking for 8-Bit Cafe near shinjuku sanchome but failed. Gutted, am desperate to play 8-bit games over some sake, but it seems to either not exist or is in some kind of invisible building.

Finished the day off with some SFIV in the Sega arcade. I even won a couple of games (woohoo) but my god my game has turned to shit :(

Has anybody been to 8-bit cafe?

Tomorrow we hit Akihabara.

When you find Super Potato keep going up each floor... the top floor is an awesome arcade with retro games. There was a picture of it somewhere in this thread.

The Sega arcades are pretty good but make sure you check Taito Hey (it's a few doors down from one of the Sega arcades on the main road)... the ciggy smell when you go up the escalator is, well, pretty powerful.

I changed the button config in GGACXXAAYYZZXXUUDDLRLRBA to match the arcade buttons, and now it feels weird.

It has that KoF problem; punch is where LK is in SF, and kick is where LP is now. I like BlazBlue's button layout a whole lot more. Not to mention there is one less button in that game. And lovely HD sprites. Ahh.

WHEN IS PERSONA 4 ARENA OUT FOR GODS' SAKES.

PS4 Arena is the first (citation needed) PS3 game to be region locked, well major release anyway :(

I've got a copy but haven't put that much time into, apart from doing the 30 lesson tutorial. The presentation is very nice though but I can get a bit overwhelming (gameplay) with all the things you can do.

I'm also a

wizard.

I had a whole bunch of excellent games against Jellum earlier. About 60 or something. With barely a hiccup in the connection. It was a good time. I got Dudderied. I had planned on learning how to play Guilty Gear, but I am easily swayed, haha.

Also also, I am still pretty confused about this Miami Connection film and still think it might be a modern parody a la Black Dynamite, but it is too perfect and surely must be the greatest film ever made:

I played some Street Fighter last night, guys. About 10 games and win all but one. The Japanese* are rubbish at the game. My gf was pretty pissed off by the end because I said I'd only pop in for a couple of games, but what happened then was a) I couldn't get my card back from the machine b) I didn't want to lose to get my card back because i) pride ii) I didn't want to waste the other guys' credits but they kept challenging me. I tried to ask for help but was met with bewilderment. Speak Fighter.

Akiba was amazing, but I was surprised that a lot of prices here aren't that different from at home. I still bought a bunch of games though. Then we spent the night at Muteki Mario, a bar filled with Mario stuff which was ace. Today we're going to Odaiba.

*amateurs I played who probably aren't even Japanese.

Thanks for the tips, NS. I'm going back tomorrow :)

I had seven games of Guilty Gear in ranked as Venom last night and lost all of them pretty efficiently. The netcode seemed ok when playing UK men, but as i'd gone for quick match I ended up fighting two men from japan and the lag is pretty bad; you even notice it on the character select screen, haha. I hate the character select screen's method of selecting a character by moving a cursor. It's so awkward.

Also, I spent a while in training messing around with Venom, quickly flicking out pool balls and smashing them at wild angles, only to find that the game is so thoroughly rushdown oriented that you just get your lips smashed off immediately for taking any time to do anything at all. Also also, the authentic arcade layout is so weird, with street fighter's light kick being punch, light punch being light kick, medium punch is slash, and hard punch is hard slash. Hard kick is "dust" a sort of odd, slow universal launcher which hits overhead (and can also be used to sweep). Medium kick does nothing.

I'm using the default xbox controller layour just now, with the four attack buttons mapped to the face buttons, and dust on SF's hard punch, and taunt on hard kick. I taunt hilariously frequently in error. I'm probably going to switch it all to the arcade's odd arc shaped layout, because I always fancy the idea of being able to walk into an arcade and beat someone at the game, like an 80s badass.

I am jealous of Camel in many more ways than I already was for that reason.

Who wants to play Guilty Gear with me?

It is very disappointing that they don't have intro music like in wrestling. Well, I think of it as like in darts, but same principle.

On topic, Super Meat Boy is amazing and definitely worthy of all the praise it gets. It's already hooked me into starting the slow push towards 100%, but I'm scared that I'm just not quite good enough to do it without giving over an inordinate chunk of my life. Or worse, there'll be levels that genuinely defeat me and I'll be left with an unscratched itch.

I stole an ashtray from that Taito Arcade. Felt bad for about 20 seconds afterwards until I realised that a) I wasn't going to get caught, and b) I had a sweet Taito-branded ashtray.

I was going to ask one of the people working there if I could like take one or pay for one but thought I wouldn't be able to communicate what it is I wanted properly... I should have just bloody took one.

I've always wanted Somewhere In My Heart by Aztec Camera to be my entrance music. But I've never had anything to make an entrance to. Either that or I'd drunkenly stagger in to Tango til They're Sore by Tom Waits. I'd settle for the Powerpuff Girls theme though.

EDIT: I just got a work email telling me that there's gonna be a visit from Krispy Kreme Doughnuts on Tuesday. I hope it wasn't meant for a different office. Oh man oh man.

I did intro music at my son's birthday party once. Think he was around 8-9 years old, and him and his mates wanted a Beyblade tournament. I'd made a mix with the Rocky fanfare and the Beyblade theme tune, and at the alloted time dimmed the lights and blasted it out - they went absolutely fucking mental. Totally hyper. It was like some nightmarish experiment.
