Ultra Street Fighter IV

I need some Street Fighter history help.

As may have been noticed I bought a Super Famicom recently and have been putting together a collection of my favourite games and some highly-regarded ones I never played originally. I only ever had the original SFII for the SNES but this time around I treated myself to Super because I might actually play it. There's no Turbo in the title, was that a separate release? I had always thought there was only one version of SFII with Fei, Cammy, Dee Jay and Tómas in it but to be honest I was struggling to keep up/losing interest by that point. It doesn't seem to have supers in it either which would make me think there must have been an incremental release to this that added them.

Argh Capcom.

If you've got Hyper Street Fighter II it might be worth a look as it allows you to select between the various games - I flipped over the case for my copy of SF Anniversary Collection and it seems that there was:

SFII: The World Warriors

SFII: Championship Edition

SFII Turbo

Super SFII

Super SFII Turbo

So, er, yeah.

EDIT:

The SFAC manual also says this:

PLAYER TYPES

SUPER T - Player abilities from SUPER STREET FIGHTER II TURBO.

This player type can be assigned to all characters.

SUPER - Player abilities from SUPER STREET FIGHTER II.

This player type can be assigned to all characters.

TURBO - Player abilities from STREET FIGHTER II TURBO.

This player type can be assigned to all players except T. Hawk, Cammy, Fei-Long, DeeJay and Akuma.

CHAMP - Player abilities from STREET FIGHTER II CHAMPIONSHIP EDITION.

This player type can be assigned to all players except T. Hawk, Cammy, Fei-Long, DeeJay and Akuma.

NORMAL - Player abilities from SUPER STREET FIGHTER II*.

This player type can be assigned only to Ryu, E. Honda, Ken, Chun-Li, Blanka, Zangief, Guile and Dhalsim.

*manual typo lol

Played this very videogame last night against Qazi Donut and imp and it was an excellent time. Donut did something approaching one-million loops of Balrog's EX Upper, ending with headbut into a zero damage ultra. It was amazing. Qazi's pshychic Juri dive kicks and imp's linky dink Ryu were also thoroughly present. I had intended to not play Street Fighter last night, but I failed miserably because I played it for about three hours. I did manage to actually play Vanquish for a pretty long time though, munching chipotle flavoured pretzels during the cutscenes. It's just the best game, really.

Incidentally, I love people's comments when I do dive kicks immediately after jumping, whilst I'm a couple of inches above the ground; "how are you doing that? WHY are you doing that?" :D

GGs to everyone of course; I am super-rusty but it was great to get some games in. I enjoyed the Ryu love-in (even if I didn't participate myself) and sighed at the fact that I ended the night with zero wins. So free.

I went to a wild media night in north London last night. it was amazing. there was a company called prickimage, and a woman wearing a black leotard dancing around utterly unselfconsiously as someone projected images onto her. it was oh so Nathan barley.

imp would have loved it.

A PM next time please. I do love to schmoooooze.

Also GGGGGGGGz everyone. I'm not going to apologise for only picking Ryu for the majority of the time last night. BECAUSE HE'S REALLY FUN TO PLAY AS. And I'm all about Play2Fun. Or Play2Combo. Or Play2Lag.

Nate, you should interview Choo about his absurd Hexagon skillz.

I've been a bit poorly and missed Yasawas's post about snes SF goodness :(

but better late than never here are the SFC ones I have

post-11702-0-81590500-1350661846.jpg

with super being the most complete and having a tournament mode (only one round per match though )

and yes Alpha 2 does have dodgy loading times and a wierd pause before the round start, but it has Dan in it so it is awesome, hmpf :)

Also I always thought that Akuma had some weird man boob thing going on with that picture until I realised it was one of his beads

Yas, good stuff sir. Nice to see you go to the extra brother to get boxed ones as well :)

I think it's a certainty that I will buckle and buy Alpha 2 at some point, I can't help myself.

The JP version of Alpha (Zero) isn't that expensive though the PAL and US ones seem to go for silly money on ebay.

I think it is one of the games that doesn't work at all with a convertor, or maybe even with some region mods so the US and PAL ones must be pretty rare for the number they would\ve sold in those countries at a time the SNES was on its way out.

I had never played the Alpha series until earlier this year, to my shame. It's pretty sweet.
