Ultra Street Fighter IV

Hakan can combo L1 focus into MK? Is that an oily counterhit-thingy? I've decided it's my new thing.

It'ss one of those combos that looks weird and is unique to Hakan because he can dash normal cancel (or Crisco as Ultradavid calls it) and nobody else can. Some of his DNC combos and FADNC combos (Crisco combos) are pretty ridiculous, as is the fact that he can use DNC-ing to turn his focus attack into a parry. It's all quite execution heavy though, which is another on the long list of reasons why not many people use Hakan even though he has tonnes of very dirty/tricky/slightly broken stuff in his arsenal.

So for that combo you'd do focus attack - > dash - > medium kick immediately after inputting the dash command so you don't even see the dash animation start before it gets cancelled.

Also note that he can only DNC when oiled, hence "Crisco". We should call them Flora combos over here or something.

I love the ending to that match. I've been trying to bait people with EX oil into crouch since they added it in AE but I've never pulled off something as glorious as that.

Also Playmobil Cody is magnificent.

I vote "lard cancel".

Shame you couldn't join the lobby pal, but geegs to haggar and Donut. Enjoyed tooling around with Deejay, definitely gonna spend some more time with him and try to get semi-competent. That cr.mk is ridiculous. Also spectated on an amazing shoutouts-to-Brazil Cammy mirror - cannon spike FADC cannon spike FADC Ultra to finish. Hype.

It is the most fun. I had to sit in training and practise hit confirms and combos with Dudley and learn to capitalise on my hits. Before that I was just doing pressure into pressure into more pressure, because whether or not I actually landed a hit was of little importance when there are more buttons to be pressed. My favourite is to do pressure into pressure into pressure into pause into EX uppercut. The EX uppercut uppercut says IT IS STILL MY TURN, YOU DO NOT GET TO DO THINGS, I AM STILL DOING THINGS. I AM CLASSY. YOU ARE LESS CLASSY. When that EX uppercut gets me the stun is when all of Dudley's weaknesses and horror match ups fade into insignificance and there are only gloves hitting faces and cups of tea being sipped.

Of course none of this is relevant now because I have to play on a Tuesday morning from 3AM to 03:12AM to get lag free games without my bastard housemates using the bastard iplayer or running their bastard torrents all the bastard time.

Torrents? Are your housemates aware that it's 2012?

I have no idea how you put up with it, must be such a nightmare. In my day all we had to worry about was Matt always putting the Marmite in the fridge (I'm over it. I AM)

Can you not all have a nice sit down to discuss some Internet ground rules? Run your torrents overnight, no iplayer between 10 and midnight, the Marmite lives by the toaster, etc? Sure they're reasonable people.

That DeeJay U2 through my block string! Oh my days.

Ryu mirrors with haggar there were pretty good after joe left. Ultra 1 trading! I went with Ken for a bit, but Ken is a dick and he's not as much fun.

What!? Everyone knows blondes have more fun. Just look at that Ultra 1 pause grin. I've been having a successful reintegration to Street Fighter. Beat a 5010PP dude playing Yun on autopilot! Then he kicked me! Yeeeeeeah.

Yeah I'm going to have to try and negotiate a window here or there where I can use it without major interference. I've made sure to check that it isn't just a terrible connection too, because when I'm certain no one else is in and the one who leaves her laptop doing things twenty four hours a day went away for a week I was able to play completely lag free. Also I'm still using home plugs so it's not a crappy wireless signal dropping out or anything. It's just that there is always somebody doing something seemingly every day and at all times. In previous shared houses it's always been pretty much as you laid out; huge downloads done during the night and people generally alternating or at least having a bit of courtesy when they were planning to hammer the bandwidth during the day/evening.

I think murdering them all might be a better solution. I'm leaning towards murdering.

Also what are the cool kids using to download things not especially legally in 2012? I am still not even slightly clued up on newsgroups and I've not been introduced to anything else?

It's either murders or leaving little notes stuck to the router asking "people" to be a bit more considerate with their internet usage. Thx guys! x

I'd rather serve the time than be a note leaver.

P.S. I hope my new Laurence Blood avatar makes everyone question their sexuality. Look deep into his eyes and read my posts in the style of Antonio Banderas for best effect.

If you're not convinced, here he is serenading (this is actual promo art from Real bout fatal fury 2):

And for poverty fighter afficionados, here he is doing a 100% touch of death dizzy combo:

TBH since ponying up for Netflix I barely download anything at all but yeah, newsgroups. They download at your connection's max speed and there's no ratio to worry about and therefore no need to leave stuff running for uploading. Also with a bit of fiddling you can set it up to automatically download new episodes within minutes of them becoming available.

If you're on Virgin they have a free newsgroup service, but it's a bit limited - you can only get stuff for seven days after it's posted. Also if you're on virgin you definitely shouldn't be using torrents because their mad traffic management stuff means you get throttled heavily if you download during peak hours.

Yeah I tend to stream things and watch utterly terrible films on the Sky on demand player rather than download stuff these days, but I may look into newsgroups

We are on Virgin yes, which is infuriating because we can get Be Unlimited here and it was utterly excellent at my last house. Absurd download speeds, no limits, no throttling, no fair usage policy and a very reasonable price. The only reason I found not to have it is it's one of those services where it gets very ropey as you start to get further from the exchange. We live right round the corner from it here though. I may suggest switching to that when we have "the talk" as well.

I still use torrents. I am living in the past also. I assumed Newsgroups were some sort of fansite for Newsround. I also mostly use netflix these days because I enjoy the convenience of it, but I also enjoy the fact I end up watching a lot of excellent stuff I'd absolutely never have downloaded through choice, but will watch because it's there. Which is ace.

But there's new episodes of It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia that need to be watched.

My connection is just awful though. Just awful. As was my Honda in the one match I used him in yesterday. I dunno what happened, but I cannot do cr.lp into hands any more. Stupid fat hands aren't fat enough.

Netflix is basically the best thing ever. We can stop inventing stuff now because we've reached the pinnacle of human invention.

The only things I dl these days are PSP games and PS2 games. The former are usually fixed versions that run on 5.33 firmware which I've bought and can't run on my old cfw PSP and the latter will be amazing PS2 games I've discovered which I'll put on my PS2 HDD, then also hunt down and buy and put on my dusty shelf never to be touched again. I download these things via torrents. Yeah living in the past.

EDIT: Played a bit of Strekken last night and got some nice messages. Where is the fun in that?

What was this Capcom arcade cab reveal then?

See, I go for Ultra 2 just so I can never land cr.mk xx fireball FADC U2.

Makoto's 'ave-it-you-cunt angry face pause is best.

I actually think Marmite is ok. And I like Bovril as well. It reminds me of times where I've tried to convince my body I've eaten something substantial in times of extremely tight finances. But in a good way. I'd never keep either in the fridge though. Wouldn't it turn them into impenetrable solids? Even if you managed to get some out of the jar, you might as well be trying to spread a shot-put onto your sandwich.

Also, the best KO freeze in the game is almost definitely Fei Long's back throw; the perfectly straight oppoenent frozen in the air then the slow-mo foot grabbing the head is just brilliant. Also; Supertaunt finish.

EDIT: Also; that Hakan EX oil cancel bait into ultra 1 is excellent. Do you get less oil when you do the cancel? I often try to avoid air attacks with that lie down move, and cancel to ultra, but I fail a lot. Still fun though. I like the idea of playing more Hakan.

I've signed up for Netflix twice now already and just get annoyed at how much stuff isn't on there. I mean, there's usually something I can find on it that will sate whatever entertainment desire I have of an evening but if I get a sudden urge to depress and amaze myself specifically with Synecdoche, New York or whatever on the way home then it's pretty useless. If all those studios could just somehow come together and give us a Netflix style service with the library of PassThePopcorn and charge £20 a month for it I'd never leave the house again, it's really depressing that we can now prove we have the technology and the userbase for a service like this but we're still decades away from achieving it for tedious legal reasons.

That Hakan was really good and I enjoyed watching him play.

I thought Synecdoche, New York was on Netflix? Maybe the American library? I'm pretty sure I watched that and Jack Goes Boating on there one night when we felt like looking at the perfectly miserable face of Phillip Seymour Hoffman for hours.

I like it because of all the stupid documentaries I end up watching. King of Kong, Chasing Ghosts and Indie Game the Movie are on there, but there was also a great Scrabble doc called Word Wars, and pinball one called Special When Lit and Best Worst Movie, catching up with the cast and crew of "Worst Film Ever" Troll 2 and their cult following. It's all great, easy to watch stuff.

Plus on the American one I can power through King of the Hill. An I only recently started watching Modern Family and I'm enjoying it. Plus Archer is on there too. And It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia. There's even the Street Fighter animated movie, which is almost on topic!

Is it?! I just picked a film out of my arse, I just meant that when I get in the mood to watch a specific thing it tends not to be on there which makes me sad. It does sound like if I could be bothered setting up the American one that I'd get more out of it.

Word Wars was great! That was one I did watch on it when I was going through a phase of documentaries about people heavily into geeky, weird things. Also that one about Bobby Fischer, that was good.

You definitely need the US and Canadian versions. So much more stuff on there.

Synecdoche isn't on there, just checked.

We're currently making our way through Twilight Zone, Breaking Bad and Always Sunny in Philadelphia. I wish they'd put series 4 of Dexter up.

The US one now has Style Wars. Please watch it, it's amazing.

I don't even really understand what that is, are those machines just PCs now that you install expensive hard drives with games on into? I don't think I like that, I want my arcade machines to be something crazy and futuristic from another world.

Also I didn't realise until I just saw on Twitter there that the LA SF25 tournament is this week! Nice. UltraDavid is getting all excited by the news that Mester, the Japanese Yun player, is coming over for it. I've really enjoyed the 3S in these competitions and I know it's heresy but I think a large part of that is not having Nuki squealing over it.

Also also, today I came home to a box from Japan that had this in it and it has made me unimaginably happy. I am 31 years old.

Took Deejay into the wilds of ranked earlier. He is a lot of fun. Got humped repeatedly, but a few wins along the way. One against a Finnish 10,000 BP Yun which was nice (he ran it straight back and rectified the natural order, of course).

Anyone bored enough to share some science/fun gimmicks? I found that cr.mp x hk Sobat sometimes works twice in a row because it doesn't knock down and they press buttons. Also tried to bait anti-airs with that jumping d.lk. Didn't work.
