Ultra Street Fighter IV

I can look through its windows and it looks like an old Tomorrow's World set.

E: additionally, I am terrified of the technical side of the internet. I remain incredibly glad that I've, by and large, had no problem connecting to folk via my wired 360.

This is in stark contrast to my bloody PS3 which resolutely refuses to let me play downloaded games that I've paid good money for due to some kind of mad error code. I've been on Sony's support forum and there are all manner of people foaming and frothing about it and no-one is doing anything about it, including a certain canine-monikered journalist type who resolutely refuses to write an article demanding answers.

I need to try something to sort it out and may need help.

So is it the first and third Darkstalkers? Why miss out the second? I don't really know the series that well, but I always assumed maybe the first was the worst, in the same way you wouldn't bother playing Street Fighter Alpha 1 these days.

Is SFxT 2013 just an official name announcement for the balance changes they already part-confirmed, or will it be more significant? At least it's free. Cheeky Ono said "of course it's free" in his tweet. Of course. ha.

I assume they'll gauge interest in a new DS by seeing how well the re-release sells. The guys behind 3SOE are doing it, so that's a good thing at least. The bad thing is it probably won't sell :(

Here's a thing:

http://shoryuken.com/2012/10/11/new-installment-darkstalkers-are-not-dead-revealed-at-capcoms-new-york-comic-con-panel/

In addition to Darkstalkers Resurrection, GamersXtreme is reporting that Capcom teased a brand new installment to the franchise. Playing off the phrase we’ve heard so many times before, Darkstalkers Are Not Dead features an art style similar to Street Fighter IV, though it’s unclear at the moment what kind of gameplay it will utilize.

That 'trailer' could have been specifically for the Resurrection announcement though. Hmmm.

Ha, totally.

I mean, I figure they know more about balancing fighting games than I/we do, but it was throw range that was the problem, two frames on startup won't do a thing. And recoverable health wasn't the major cause of timeouts - it was jabs, rolls and above all the damage scaling that did that.

Still, I'm glad they gave Kazuya a leg up, poor guy had too many bad matchu oh wait, no, the other thing.

Clueless. Let's hope these are just the first balance changes to be announced and they haven't actually spent six months working on the wrong things. Eep.

Take out launcher chains to force people to learn real combos - and maybe marginally increase the throw range - and they've probably got a good game without any more changes. The problem with that is that the game they've got is pretty much just Street Fighter 4.

I am in favour of rolls, by the way. Punishing a roll is instantly gratifying, and getting corner pressure because you've convinced someone not to roll is fun. Pushblock on jabs could be increased, or jab speed reduced or something, I don't know.

I think the first problem up there is the real issue, though. SF4 was essentially a reboot of a 20 year old game, freshened up and made even more fun. If they want to release another game that has the same impact (i.e. makes them as much money), it's either going to have to wait another 15 years before appearing and be essentially the same game again freshened up for new audiences, or they're going to have to make something so different that people who love Street Fighter will have arguments about whether or not it's a real Street Fighter game, and risk the rest of the potential audience still not liking it anyway. Like SFxT, I guess.

They should probably think about working on something new and separate to their old franchises once they've run out of old games to release in fake HD, but they probably won't.

I don't know if there's a better version than this wild cam video with hollering men, but the teaser for something more from Darkstalkers looks pretty lovely. I'll no doubt end up buying the rereleases and not playing them at all. Though I didn't get MvC Oranges! Restraint!

I still quite like SFxT anyway; every time I play SSFIV as Sakura or Rufus I keep wishing I could bust out some of their wild Strekken tricks. I wonder how Capcom is going to deal with keeping all the self-important fighting game playing men interested in it though, since its dwindling support from players as a tournament game will mean they're less likely to want to go through the laborious process of installing some free update to the game across multiple consoles as well as DLC characters and so on. Maybe they'll provide some all-content-on-disc version for Evo/SBO etc just to keep the organisers on side.

Or maybe it's too late? Probably not. There's probably still more people playing SFxT actively as their main game than there were people actively playing fighting games between 2002 and 2008. This fact is completely made up and wildly incorrect, no doubt.

Also, I'm happy that Ono mentioned adding an online Training Mode to SSFIV AE, as well as mentioning that they'd consider other updates. I think even the smallest of tweaks to that game would get me pretty excited now. It's probably one of my favourite games, actually.

I like SFxT. You guys should play as Dhalsim. You'll have way more fun. Everybody loves him.

Last time I played, some US guy was in the lobby and after a few games he switched to Dhalsim. Presumably to show me how it's done. I beat him in about 10 seconds flat and he quit the lobby. Good times.

5 days until Japan! When I find Daigo and beat him and he gets me sponsored and stuff I'll let you all know.
