Ultra Street Fighter IV

I played some decent 16,000+ BP Sagat the other night called Jiji Kun in a first to five in ranked; he had a ten percent disconnect rate and was pretty uppercutt happy. I ended up losing the first round as Ryu before taking the next couple before the lag stepped up. I stunned him and got an extra wee combo in before he quit. I sent him a message that said "10% disconnect? Sheesh! gg anyway kid! :)"

and yesterday found I had a reply of "who u callin kid you nobody?"

Ouch! I'll stick to calling him sweetheart in future, then.

Yes. I feel that your gen deserved applause though. I do love hands confirm into super into ultra. Also I hate it, because gen is a brittle old man and shouldn't do that much damage AT ALL.

Jail 'em, I agree that he plays rose correctly and yeah, verses anyone top tier bar perhaps fei and sagat (rog and ryu aren't top tier, right?) she just has such a shitty time. Akuma, ibuki, cammy, seth, viper just shit all over her for obvious reasons. she might do ok against Adon, I guess. She's probably not that bad really, what, low-mid tier overall, but is just totally not tournament viable because she has so many shitty matchups against the top.

Joffo, Jiji is from the Manchester scene. He's known for having a bit of an attitude and seems to be equally loved and hated by UK fighting game types. When he's on form he's one of the better UK players (he was on one of the European teams at last year's Canada Cup) but he clearly has quite the ego. "Nobody" indeed. Whattaprick.

Joe, i've seen your name pop up several times in ranked but I get 0 bars - probably why we couldn't get a lobby going t'other night sad.png

I think I have that fisher price internet back again.

Aye, that was a shame. I'm not sure how reliable my new internet is, and my flatmates do stream stuff sometimes so it's up and down. Sorry for the terse messages, I hate writing them with the stick tho.

Akuma saying "that was GODLIKE" in Mike Ross' voice is one of the best Excellent Adventures moments to date for me. I also liked the blizzard because it was so obviously going to work against Adon. So glad they're back.

I watch, but the pair seem to have lost a bit of chemistry together. It's hard to imagine the kind of joviality we saw in the second series when Mike Ross jumped on Gootecks for making a crack about Stars1ay3r (or however it's spelt) whilst they discuss AOL stuff. Mike Ross in particular seems much more withdrawn starring with Gootecks than he does with Combofiend. But I'm in the minority, and I am glad this has continued.

Anyway: [yet] another request for help please. I'm greatly enjoying playing as Akuma (certainly easier to get to grips with than Makoto, although I'll miss the masculinity) but aside from a bit of footsies and fireball play, I'm awful at getting in. The trials are useful as far as execution and some combos but I'm still somewhat in the dark as far as Akuma's real strengths. Currently playing him as I would Ryu which is entirely wrong. Been perusing the IPlayWinner character guide and have a fair idea of good normals, but any help and advice would be brilliant.

Also, how on earth do you connect his Ultra 1 after a focus crumple attack (think it's trial 10)? I just can't seem to do it.

Fighting game references in hip-hop: https://docs.google....ZxaDl5OXc#gid=0

That is too awesome. :D

I will be fighting streets this week, even though I probably said that the other day and forgot to turn up. Boo. Anyway, throw me your invites if you want some weekday fighter.

Back on topic, is everybody going to get Double Dragon Neon? It looks amazing but I think I'd only really enjoy it with online co-op (which is planned in a future update anyway.) Hmm.

I agree that they don't quite have the banter they used to but I'll take what I can get.

Re: the trial, sorry if this seems like a silly a question but are you dashing out of the focus attack once you've got the crumple? If you don't then you won't have time to land it. It also makes it easier if you're still practising the demon because you can buffer in the inputs while Akuma's dashing so you won't accidentally connect with the jab or the light kick. Also don't forget that you can input the dash as early as you like. As soon as you've let go of MP and MK you can input the dash, and your character will execute it at the next available opportunity. In that time you can buffer whatever you like and then press the last input for it as the dash is ending.

Getting in with Akuma is a bit match-up specific, but you can generally frustrate people by meter building at full screen with empty demon flips/fireballs/air fireballs and see if they hang themselves, or you can use his excellent walk speed and decent pokes to play footsies and fish for a knockdown. His sweep is good, standing roundhouse is excellent and up close he has a decent throw/frame trap game. Try to land his forward throw where possible as he has some good set ups after it and it's always good to be throwing your opponent nearer to the corner. You can also jump in with air fireballs to cover your approach, then if you get them to block use his walk speed to move in and close distance. After that he is all about getting the most out of a knockdown using the various demon flip enders, cross up air hurricane kick, cross ups, fake cross ups, down + mk dive kick, empty jump into crouching light kick, throw etc.

Double Dragon Neon looks awful imo but it really is really quite really good inreallydeed. Shouldn't have launched without online co-op, though, as it's very hard on the higher difficulties and you really need a partner. I'm shipping in Cale especially tomorrow evening because I need some help. Some freaky hitbox/collision detection stuff going on there too, which on a high difficulty level means you can lose two thirds of your health for no good reason at all.

Soundtrack's excellent, though, and there's a nice system there. Wall bounces, corner combos, cancels into specials and stuff. Also jumping kick is Makoto's axe kick, with similar hitbox and hitstun. It's nice.

Just had 10 playable and semi-playable fights against Joffles. Ryu is fun. I kept up my current Streetfighter habit of:

1) See cool thing in video.

2) Try desperately to land it against Joffo.

3) Yaaaay.

This time it was a shenanigan I saw from xWAx Solid, who has the flashiest Ryu in the galaxy. He does it against Gief here in a losing effort, and boring Youtube types criticise him for not doing the sensible thing and going straight into the ultra, but I don't care because the way he did it is cooler. A good Ryu variant on Aquasilk's "The Snackish". 3:40 here:

Sadly when I did it against Joffo I didn't notice I had full bar and went straight into ultra after the jumping medium punch. Next time!

Also it turns out Ryu's standing fierce is a much better anti-air against Sakura than crouching fierce. It works like Cammy against her, and hits high up fast enough to not get stuffed by her absurdly good jumping fierce and jumping roundhouse.

He's from the Dominican Republic and hasn't had the chance to travel a lot. YogaFlame24 is doing a great job of organising FT5 sets by request though, and is trying to match him up with some name players. He had an excellent FT5 against Arturo's Dhalsim recently, and YF24 is building a playlist of his matches here:

The xWAx stands for Warriors Anonymous: http://www.wafighters.com/

Apparently he and Latif had a lag test to see if they could FT5 but both agreed that it was unplayable. Would have been an action packed set.

Hello everybody I'm back from my enforced absence of fighting in the street or a holiday in Wales as it is also known, but I did manage to do one of the Heggfest combo videos I promised and here it is (there is some black space at the end, not sure why but there you go)

Any good? Worth doing the rest?

You're a good man, plopboy. And thorough.

Playing JLM yesterday was excellent because the connection was actually good for the first few matches and he was dishing out some hilarious nonsense. There was one particular thing that made me laugh quite a bit as well as the anti-air dp > j.mp > Ultra, but I can't remember what it was now. Some consistent cr.lp > cr.hk links as well!

Hello! I tried to read the Bayonetta 2 stuff using both the link in the big teal Wii U banner and from the Wii U "All the News" page but I got a 404 error: http://www.edge-online.com/news/wii-u-release-date-round-up/

Actually, most of the links on that page are dead.

Looks much nicer than before though, and as a bonus I can access it from work for some reason! Yes!
