Ultra Street Fighter IV

JLM

Recommended Posts

I've got evidence of mind games from the crowd. This got sent to my phone during my semi final match against Hegg.

fEasl.png

It was quite a shady affair in places. Goemon knocked me into losers early on, but had to leave. So I put myself back into winners. Then Hyper P turned up, so we played a proper game of rose ball (7 rounds, no health) to decide who took the winners spot, which I won.

I mind fucked Jellum by actually picking Makoto AND winning a game against him. I suspect he was busy downloading during that first match, as the rest of the set went to him.

Top 3:

1st - JLM

2nd - Hegg

3rd - Donut/Goemon/Goenut

I am now the proud owner of Street Fighter 2 for the Super Famicom.

The whole tournament got recorded. Which is handy, because it was the best tournament this year. We rounded off the evening with some ranked trolling on hegg's tag. Everyone was in awe of my Fei Long. Too much tech for their tiny minds.

It was great to see everyone again, as well as the new faces too. See some of you tomorrow for more!

I played Skatan during our ranked trolling session this afternoon. If it wasn't quite so laggy he probably wouldn't have got a perfect on me.

Anyway, important stuff... Rose Ball results:

1st - Hegg :(

2nd - Alistarr

Shout outs to nuskool and plopboy for filming. Nate, Cale and joeplus for some last minute coaching on the roof prior to winners finals (hey it almost worked). Goemon for actually getting me further into the tourney than I had any right to. Joffo for empty jump throw tech loops on Third Strike this afternoon. And everyone else for being excellent.

Oh and Hegg's beard. And Hegg himself for hosting the whole thing.

I have just got back. Sunday train services eh?

The Rose ball 8 man bracket for the trading cards/copy of Alpha 2 was super hype. Donut, you have the top two in the wrong order there. Team Jellistarr did the tournament double this weekend, to the delight of our sponsors. I will type more things about the weekend tomorrow.

I'd also like to proffer my thanks to lovely Hegg for letting us spend time in his office. It was nice to see everyone again, even if not for as long as I'd like, and to play some games of good old street fighter against you all. Also good was to meet new people and have a go on the insanity that is a hitbox controller, which was an utterly intense mental workout.

The lovely session of Hidden in plain sight with jellum and alistarr and subsequent ranked trolling back at mine was also ace. Though being awoken by joffo about 4 hours later was not quite the greatest start to the next day.

Camel's a fucking cheap mashing cunt, mind.

So ...

Big thanks to Hegg for the amazing hospitality. What a legend. Also, big shout out to Hegg's beard.

Shame I missed most of the event, would have liked to have met Plopboy and Goemon and to have seen Nate and Cale again and anyone else I may have missed. Next time though, right guys?

It was nice getting some SSFIV action in because I don't really play it these days and it didn't take too long to shake the rust off old stretchy limbs, although I did some pretty stupid stuff with him, couoldn't combo from one side of the screen and forgot some of his buttons. But I thoroughly enjoyed playing again. Excellent game. And then Joffo completely mauled me with his terrifying Ibuki on Sunday night which put me in panic mode for most of our matches and now I'll never play it again. Rubbish game. I think if I'd got the chance to play JLM I probably would burned my SSFIV disc when I got home.

Other highlights for me were playing roseball for the first time (though it took me a while to get used to - sorry Imp for the crappy games) and Strekken! Woohoo! Strekken! The best part of playing Strekken was Hegg's grumpy face throughout even though we won a few matches against the choreographed antics of Team Jelly*.

I have a couple of excellent photos from Friday night. Does anybody object to me putting them up? If so, I'll PM them about or something.

Thanks again Hegg.

EDIT: Oh! And I got hold of a copy of Joe's crossword yesterday. My god, amazing work. Haven't had the chance to sit down and have a crack at it yet, but I will. Also, nice to meet you Joe and great stuff seeing everyone else again - Hegg, Hyper, Haggar, Joffo, Ali*, JLM, Imp, Choo, Donut and oh god, I hope I haven't missed anyone out.

Twas an awesome day on Saturday so a big thank you for Mr Hegg. Had some nice matches and even though I was confirmed as bottom tier I still enjoyed it and I think Goemon was relieved to get through the tournament match against me. I sure there where a few sighs of relief coming form G chap.

Joffo mullered me in my loser match and there was much merriment when we both realised there was one round left in out match after I'd forgotten I had won a round :)

Thanks to Cale for sorting the food and and GC Zombie for the excellent lift there and back. Sorry I couldn't make the Sunday, maybe next year :)

Tournament brackets (AE videos coming soon, so don't look if you want to avoid spoilers):

SSF4:AE ver. 2012:

Double elimination. Best of five standard (3-round, 99-second) games. Loser of previous game may change characters, winner may change ultra in response.

Heggfest20121.png

Rose Ball:

Single elimination. Best of five (7-round, 30-second) games. Coin toss for first serve and the loser of the previous point serves thereafter. No crossing the middle of the stage before the serve. Loser of previous game may change characters, winner may change ultra in response.

I love that Rose Ball is apparently Heggfest's second biggest (and only other tournament-worthy) game. We really do only play Street Fighter.

Well, that was ace. Hope everyone is safely home and/or happily on their way.

Many thanks to Hegg for the amazing hospitality (and the tip about tubes to Earls Court), and to everyone in general for being so welcoming and friendly. Great to put some faces to names, had lots of fun playing casuals, didn't get to play everyone but GGs to all who I did. A bit salty about my showing in the tourney, thought I could have played better, but can't take anything from Jellum (what a first-round draw eh) and Zombie who were a cut or several above. Rest of the tourney was pure hype to watch too. Joffo, you need to be on major tournament commentary, I think I was laughing almost the entire time you talked over the weekend.

The whole thing made me pretty determined to get better, probably be straight in the training room this evening. Would certainly be up for the mooted more regular London meetups. Mentioned the idea to my flatmate and he got quite excited as he sees it as the opposite of the book club his girlfriend used to run (quote: "rules: no fruit or vegetables, only beer and pepperoni pizza"), so if anyone fancies cramming into a small living room in Streatham Hill at some point you'd be more than welcome. I'm detemined to train him up too, all making him do Hadoken drills until he does ten without dropping. Shouting at him and that.

Also cheers to imp for showing me around P4A, even though I had no idea what was going on I'm very tempted to pick it up, might be fun to try something that plays so differently from SF.

Cheers for the nice comments on the crossword too - I'll put it in an open Google doc this week so everyone can have a crack at finishing it together. Pleased to see that

"PROFOUND SADNESS"

was solved quickly. :)

Oh, yes, I never got a copy of that, I'd like a look at it if you could please! It was also good to meet you and plopboy and nuskool. More names to more faces! One day we'll get Carlito to haul his withered form to fulham, so that he can sit at the back of the room and cackle at everyone.

And yes, more frequent london fightings would be lovely. Local is so so much better than online, I forgot how nice it is to actually be able to react to stuff and not have to deal with lag with throw teching and to have a cheeky wee sideways glance at your opponent after your third wakeup throw in a row and to have someone to throw your stick at. we've totally got enough people round this way to do it as well.

Shoutouts to alistarr and his oni resetting me after a reset. The cheeky swine. Also to my somehow catching imp's Adon (scum!) jugga kick with a reaction T Hawk U2, which is probably the hypest thing I will ever do.

What an excellent day. Thanks so much to Hegg for making it all happen once again. Was great to meet new faces and see old ones again (even if I missed the oldest one of all - Camel, sorry our paths didn't cross).

Shoutouts to Cale for the food (and giving me his cold), Challonge for the brackets, Joe for the unfathomable crossword, Joffo for his excellent t-shirts, the roof crew for being excellent, and everyone else for being there and being lovely. Roll on next year.

Shoutouts also to the guy that nearly killed us on the way home by pulling out into the fast lane without indicating or looking over his shoulder to see the Peugeot 206 in his blind spot.

Oh and apologies to Joffo for texting to ask if he'd seen my hoodie then not responding after the battery died and I went upstairs and put it on charge and didn't see his reply until bedtime. If anyone took that with them, please let me know, I love it dearly and will pay for postage. It was reasonably clean and everything.
