Ultra Street Fighter IV

JLM

Recommended Posts

He is amazing yeah. I like that he goes for needlessly long and difficult combos, often into Super just for the hell of it. I love that he uses Ultra 2 and goes for massively inefficient and super stylish combos into that as well. I've just been in training trying to do a reset I saw him use against a Gouken player. It is excellent.

Also is anybody on the fightings? Joffo has been playing Xbox dashboard for a while but I never found it to be much fun.

That stuff's ridiculous. I didn't get to play Street Fighter much at all yesterday, though I should get a cheeky wee hour in tonight after work. Plus a full mid-week day off to look forward to; I'll practice my safe jump and ambiguous cross up setups with Ibuki all day if I can muster the patience to actually use Training mode. Then playin' against Hegg and hopefully Jiro in Edinburgh on Sunday.

Week Fighter!

Training should let you manage and playback inputs on a frame by frame basis really, so you can test what's possible. It should also let you asign those pre-recorded combos to the dummy, and set them to perform them as soon as they exit block/hitstun, to test different characters punish abilities.

Also also, had a first to ten as Ibuki against JLM's Dudley, and suffered at the hands of those option select ultras I heard tale of. It's too tempting to backdash as Ibuki vs her other options, so he had me down to a filthy 7 - 1 in no time. He rarely, if he even ever did, falter with his links into standing roundhouse x ex.killpooribuki either. It was wonderful stuff. I like playing JLM; he forces a bit of discipline into my haphazard focus fest. Managed to claw back a few thanks to Ibuki being a tricky wee cow, but still lost the set 10-5 in the end. Great times though, and I look forward to far more of this come Heggfest.

EDIT: Almost forgot to mention the EX Thunderbolt chip finishes! There were a few, including a missed thunderbolt FADC pressure game, haha. What a wild gent.

Last night JLM tried to thunderbolt chip me and I snake striked him in the head. Then we played Marvel and discovered that we both forgot most of our timings. Random select FT2s forevermore, I say.

I'm going to do chores this morning and play videogames all afternoon, hopefully.

Oh oh oh, I finally got Marvel back and intended to learn it. I did Mission mode combo trials with some different characters and every time I got to the one where you have to use an assist mid combo I could not pass it. Ridiculous. I just do not get it.

Let's play some time! I am struggling to work out a new team at the moment so Ghost Rider's been getting a bit of a rest. I've mostly been doing the struggling idly in my head rather than actually while sitting in front of the game, though, which means I've not made much progress yet.

I just paid £25 for it, like a mug. I did hear it's £10 in HMV in store though (I saw it for that price on PS3, but I've not seen a 360 copy). It seems to have held its price well, considering it was supposed to be a budget release in the first place.

Oh, and Alistarr, yes, definitely. I feel I never will get good at Marvel though, as brilliant as it is to watch.

I think it's worse than SF4 for exposing skill gaps between players - if your opponent is even a little bit better at their mixup than you are at blocking it or executing your own then you can lose three characters without feeling you've played. And of course you only get one round.

JLM and I are developing a party mode gametype, though, which basically involves doing individual random selects until you have a full team that doesn't have any of your main characters and then playing a best of three match. If it's a player mismatch then one player can have a gimme character up front to even things up. I think it might have tournament potential.

I am having to take a break this week as I have to pack all of my worldly belongings into boxes. I hate it hate it hate it. Should all be fine by Saturday though.

BTW, did everyone see the videos of Floe playing I Wanna Be The Guy Gaiden at EVO? Pretty hilarious.

I was happy to hear my personal favourite moment from Excellent Adventures - I GOT HUSTLED MAN - as one of the death messages, as well as laughing Gootecks.

Is umvc3 down to 50p anywhere yet?

I've been waiting for it to drop... even SFxT is cheaper now.

It briefly dropped at Zavvi to £15 but soon went back up (I'm not sure if that was a mistake though as they cancelled my order).

I know it's only like £25 but I think i'm probably going to play it like twice before it's get's permanently shelved.

Thanks for the games tonight JLM and Scott and I learned some new things to do with Elf from the master smile.png

I've just purchased a wireless headset as I know the crappy wired one doesn't work properly... expect to hear plenty of swearing from me.

I'm up for Marvel lobbies. I briefly thought about making Marvel my secret Heggfest character, then realised I was useless at it. Also I can only play it on the PS3 pad.

Sorry for the swift exit on Friday, Jason - there were severe imbalances of raw skill and sobriety and I pretty much just wanted to press buttons at people. You are far too good at this game now, sir. I do, however, have a rebuttal to your post about wanting to play people of a suitably high level who weren't so prone to randomness and stuff: when you've been frametrapped and OSed and downloaded to fuck for a round and a half it's very hard not to start wilding out with silly stuff.

JLM is getting far too sensible and surgical in his approach to the game. He'll start going full Heisenberg on us soon and there will be no redemption in sight.

He still laughs when he plays though. There is hope.

I rarely take a round off JLM without feeling like a guilty fraud now. See also: imp, Choo, Donut, Ranked.

JLM also has the mental edge or 'The Terror'. I've seen it a few times in lobbies where players down back whilst JLM comes in windmilling with his skills :) whereas against other player they may be more aggressive at the start of the round/in general. I'm no exception to this and even when you think you might have got out of the corner by choosing a different escape, he is still there with a punish. Having said that it isn't exactly easy to get in against him :(

But I would much rather play against JLM, maybe take a round (if I'm lucky), than a random in ranked as I learn a lot more about how slack my play style is and what is safe in certain situations and isn't.

I should be home and Street Fighting for a wee bit just after four today if any of you folks are around this afternoon. That'd be nice.

I added New Super Mario Bros. Wii to my list of games I actually played to the end which aren't Street Fighter. I didn't get all the star coins, because it was a frustrating two-player run, but considering how much I disliked the DS one I was surprised by how much I was enjoying myself as it really picks up toward the end. What an excellent Bowser battle.

Playing against jellum is fun when you're not getting destroyed. So never. My favourite thing is that he started neutral jumping a lot at the start of the round verses my balrog, so I decided to start forward dashing and doing cr.hp to beat this, and then he stopped and started countering this, so then I started with lp.dash which was what the neutral jump was meant to avoid. It was all so delightful. Also the repeated beastings make me have to stop and think about things like frame traps and option selects to try and get any damage at all. I think you're also the person against whom I most frequently wake up with block, mainly due to your furious posts on the subject.

I like playing all you guys so much more than ranked, it's nice to try and pick up on everyone's traits and styles and try to counter them all accordingly.

Wha?! You are the biggest, fattest liar!

I now have BT Infinity. Yay. This also means I am stuck with a homehub 3 and a moderate NAT. Not-so yay :(

I'll also have a working headset again from today, unless I manage to step on it on the way home.

Oh no! I considered getting that too because I watched the advert and wanted to have a vaguely attractive female flatmate I could chat to awkwardly while looking a enough like Tim Key for people to wonder whether or not I'm Tim Key when they've not got their glasses on.

Here is a guide on how to beat everyone:

Joffo: empty jump throw.

Hegg: Get a lifelead, then be better at downback. (It is impossible to get a lifelead)

Donut: Do wildly unsafe wakeup reversals to counter his wild mixups on wakeup.

imp: ragequit after the tenth kara throw.

Me: Punish my wild mashing of the sweep button with focus attacks, repeatedly.

JLM: Win EVO.

Quazi: Know how to punish jumping backwards.

What is this, the JLM fan thread? Time for me to share some anti-JLM tech, methinks.

Mash uppercut.

Or just mash ultra. JLM caught me with a wake-up ultra of his own last night and I could hear the vengeful malice in his cackle of delight.

Oh, and when I had BT Infinity my internet connection was beyond godlike. It's weird you're having so much trouble. Have you tried incorporating router resets into your game, or possible some channel mixups?
