Ultra Street Fighter IV

JLM

Recommended Posts

GGs to everyone last night, Jellum in AM (well, strictly speaking PM as it was around 8ish) and JoePlus, Haggar and Donut (briefly) later on. I swear playing JLM takes it out of me, feel like I have to concentrate so hard just to stop from getting whitewashed. It's a lot of fun though cos I know if I'm not on the ball, thinking a move ahead then I'm going to get bodied. Was gutted to have an on-reaction anti-air dead-end-irony blocked when it would have won the round, I swear it was good. Damn lag. Later on Haggar's 'rog dominated me and Joe for about 5-6 straight matches - so many tick throws - then we had a blast with random select. Was fun.

GGs Jiro. Apologies for my very basic Ken-ing.

GGs Goemon also. sorry to stick with Dudley the whole time but I'm loving him at the minute and thought going up against a selection of your characters would be good practise. I think it went quite well and I'm quite pleased with my corner pressure and reset game now. Getting into the habit of counting stun and taking extra risks when I think I'm one hit away from dizzying the opponent too. Still lots and lots of improving to do though.

By the way, it's quite frightening how much your Yun has improved since last time I saw you in a lobby. Scary.

Yea, ggs!

It's cool to stick with Dudley, it's nice to play against characters that you don't really see in Ranked. Dudley's standing HP is a really good AA! Lost count the amount of times you caught me with it when trying to get in with dive kicks.

I've lost it with Makoto >< I've been off her too long messing around with oother characters...I jumping round like a headless chicken these days

I thought the Gen-Dudley matches ups were really cool! Really enjoyed those matches! Liked your option select Ultra 2 on my backdash too ;)

Sorry for the annoying Elf pressure, he can have a bit of a brutal mix up game.

GGs to dohnut too! Your Makoto is well and truely awesome! I am proper jealous!

Yes, sorry about the tick throws, but rog is all about the throw game. I need to make sure I play a few games against hegg with him, to cause maximal salt. I'm working on some frame traps and option selects with him, so that it's not all ticks! And I think I got a few combos in, even.

I really need to work on punishing those blocked ruffian kicks more consistently.

Could be worse! Balrog's U1 tends to get wildly scaled, especially due to the fact that I was doing 3/4 hit confirms into it, as well as the fact that the juggle version does naff all damage anyway. It's more that it gets you a guaranteed corner from almost anywhere on the stage, which is very useful.

To be honest I was happier I got the ryu FADC U1. I'm usually fairly cack handed when it comes to landing that in a match since I don't really use him that often.

I was pretty chuffed with the successful OS ultra I must admit!

The reason I kept picking Rolling Thunder is that Yun, Makoto and Gen all have quite strong back dashes and I was hoping to catch one, and then when I finally landed it it was the other ultra anyway. Was also quite funny that the first time I attempted it I totally botched the timing, did the ultra input too late and got empty jump ultra instead, which fortunately hit because you'd tried to tech. Accidental XBL tactics are the best tactics.

Standing fierce is the perfect anti dive-kick normal. Fast, active, damaging and an amazing horizontal hitbox. His other anti-airs all become useless against dive kicks but thankfully that one becomes godlike and you don't need them.

The Gen matches were indeed fun. Dudley's chunkiness makes Gen's already ambiguous cross ups even harder to see, and even though I try to use EX cross counter very sparingly (once per match at the most, ideally much less frequently than that) you always went to empty jump throw when I decided to go for it. I do like using light kick duck to escape cross ups though.

Was pleased to land a couple of new post-dizzy resets. Landing them and getting another big chunk of unscaled damage is the true joy of playing Dudley. I feel like I'm getting more dizzies on people each time I play Dudley too, and that's really the mark of how well you're doing because he doesn't tend to win if you don't get a dizzy.

Still working through this mammoth Dudley tutorial and am currently up to the 26 minute section on okizeme, so hopefully my post-knockdown game will be levelling up soon. Trying not to rush straight ahead to the one about resets but by god it's tempting.

I was playing 3rd Strike on the Xbox 1 collection the other day with jumping turned off under system direction to see if it changed how I played in any way. Obviously I couldn't play online but it was good to just practice against the CPU. Anyway, not jumping kind of made me appreciate my long-range pokes (I seemed to enjoy Ibuki's crouching strong attack) and footsies and things, but I should have picked someone other than Ibuki because her kunai attack is so useful in matches and I felt naked without it.

Anyway, now I have to re-learn Juri normals I guess... :P

I'm working through that, trawling the forums and also watching lots and lots of matches from selected high level Dudley players. Taking it all in.

As for the option select ultras, I'm not normally the option selecting type, but if you don't make people bleed for back dashing then Dudley is a totally ineffective character.

Just pretend you use meter every time you jump :)

Yeah I got my round 2 for about £90 a year ago but the prices of all the sticks seem to have risen, even the cheap as chips Wii Tatsunoko stick is now about £50.

I'd say £80 would be a cheap forum price but I'd do it for more if I was selling on ebay or amazon due to the commission.

Ggs again Goemon. Between you and Donut, most of my Dudley-ing is against Makoto and it is such a fun match up. After a good set of games it's getting a bit like when I play Donut now, where it's reads upon reads and you have to do stuff that seems a bit random based on what's happened previously in each situation, so I'm doing EX MGB after you block a level two focus to catch your back dash. That works a couple of times, then after the next one you do EX karakusa to catch said EX MGB. And so forth. Love it.

The new thing I was trying to do more of this time was make more effective use of SSB and EX SSB as part of my post-knockdown pressure game. It's pretty pretty good.

Ggs to Alistarr also. Stop playing other games at once.

Anyone post this yet http://kotaku.com/5928517/street-fighter-lego-so-good-youll-think-its-official

Custom LEGO builder Julian Fong has, after over a year of hard work, put together a set of Street Fighter LEGO minifigs that look for all the world like actual, official pieces.

They're not, of course, he's painted and customised themselves, but the level of detail, craftsmanship and adherence to LEGO's own style is remarkable.

Those wishing they were official...Fong has also submitted the minifigs to LEGO's Cusoo program, so there's a slim chance that, one day, they may actually be official.

Geegs to everyone I've played in the past couple of days - I still can't get st.HP HC st.MP xx T1nGz consistently with Makoto, so that still makes Goemon's Mak better than mine.

I like how JLM is doing his best to stitch himself up with those resets he posted. I tried it out on Goemon's Yun the other night but it doesn't seem to work on him... might have been because I was too far away though. All this talk of Jellum Option Selects (Option Jellects?) scares me too. We should probably think about adding Shin Jellum to the potential list of new gamertags.

ggs donut. would have played a bit longer, but breaking bad was calling me. My connection with you has been well rubbish of late. Stupid router, or something. Also did you have beast mode enabled tonight or something? Because bloody hell.

Apologies for being a little wild on the Mak recently. I've been quite an angry, sweaty man these past couple of days.

Oh and Daigo's new main isn't a street fighter character:

Also, here's Poongko getting bodied by ProudStrawberry's Gouken

Those Lego figures are ace, although if Capcom produced them you'd be charged a tenner every time you wanted to swap body parts around.

I seem to be missing all the lobbies but then I've only been on Live every now and then.

Best was my bison comeback using NOTHING but hk. I felt so awful. Also you are so terrifying with half the cast, well done. It's lots of fun to have a bit of variety.

Also jellum and imp turned up later, but I went to bed before I could fight the j-man, due to being tired and so so sweaty (so!). Imp shoryukened me, mostly. My best and most favourite was mashing cr.lk to tick into ultra 1 with hakan against donut. I've never done that in a match before, and it pleased me greatly.
