Ultra Street Fighter IV

If I made a fighting game every character would be Arnold Schwarzenegger, each from a different film. I'd go Kindergarten Cop Arnie.

Exclusive to Vita, baby.

:cut to in-game footage of a frenzied, hyper-saturated fighting game. Full screen explosions, laser blasts and psychedelic FX rock the screen to a soundtrack of brostep incongruously intercut with whimisical melodies.

Camel's Pugwash is on the receiving end of a battering from a small green locomotive - frantically trying to block the high-low mixup game of steam blasts and piston-slams, suddenly Camel's seizes an opportunity to tag out Pugwash for the Soup Dragon and before Jiro can react her awesome level 3 Ultra "Green soup" strips Ivor's health bar in an instant for a screen-shattering KO - Your watching Oliver Postgate's Big Battle Colosseum.

I'd love a new fighting game based on Yie Ar Kung-Fu. Maybe a Konami Capcom crossover Street Fighter x Yie Ar Kung-Fu game. Yes, that would be lovely. Or even Capcom vs Konami. Then they could include eg Simon Belmont, the guy from Green Beret and the mole from Track & Field.

Oh Jooooooffoooo. And other peeps north of the border..

I'm up in Edinburgh Sat 4th, for a few days. And Box of Monsters just told me that some placed called Twitch is having a cheeky SF tourney on the 5th. Boom!

I haven't played in weeks (and don't intend to before going), so salt levels will be high...I'm definitely up for this.

Join me?

I got mega sad when you said the 4th, as I'm working that saturday, then I realised you said the tournament is on the Sunday, which makes me happy. I'll have to ask if I'm allowed though, because I'm already booked up for the Heggfest Street Fighting, which uses a pretty heavily weighted chunk of my Street Fightin' allowance.

Maybe I'll arrange an Edinburgh "shopping" trip and pop into this place for a few cheeky wee fights rather than the tournament.

Yes!

I need to figure out how I'm going to smooth this over with the ladychum too, not sure yet. Have been told it finishes up by 5-ish though, which seems more than reasonable.

I'm excited. Hopefully Jiro can pop along too. And hopefully you have to fight Roukanken as well! haha!

Yasawas is a scottish man who street fights also. He also likes Tom Waits, which makes me happy, because I'm obsessed with Tom Waits. I haven't read Infinite Jest yet though, like everyone else.

The best thing about Yie Ar was being able to stop in midair and bust out infinite numbers of random moves for no reason. Or maybe it was the way you could leap 500ft into the air and miss your opponent completely. Again, for no reason.

Noooooo!

I'm not very good at fighting against Chun-Li. I thought about this recently and decided it's down to lack of practice. I never see any online Chun-Lis. So when Jellum comes along I get spankedy spanked.

I'm more likely to make it to that than Heggfest - apparently they do a Wednesday night SF thing at Twitch but I've been too self-conscious to go. I still have a vague dream of driving down to London but current work situation makes it unlikely.

I don't think I'd enter any tournaments but I'd come along for sure.

I have an irrational love of Yie Ar Kung-Fu. I think it's because after playing games like Karate Champ in the arcade and Kung-Fu on the Spectrum, Yie Ar was such a revelation. The aforementioned games are very serious affairs, quite slow moving and all about winning points in a serious toournament using realistic moves. Yie Ar blew all that away, had you leaping 50 ft in the air against spectacular backdrops of waterfalls and temples and had the most amazing and ridiculous moves straight out of Kung-Fu flicks. And it was fast. Not only that but most of the other guys had weapons! Stars and fans, chains and nunchuks. It was the fighting game of my dreams. Also, hang on, what's this? This level doesn't have one opponent, it has loads of midgets onscreen at once!

Yie Ar Kung-Fu

I think I wasted some of my prime gamer years playing Kick-Off. So much time to play games. If I could go back I'd give myself a good talking too. It's not like you get any useful transferrable skills from playing Kick-Off. If only I'd played nothing but fighters.

Someone sent me this today and it made me happy:

Who's Box of Monsters, does he live up here? Can he teach me the art of fighting without fighting so I can beat Joffo's fiendish Toe-Fu? (Wi-Fi)

He's one of Hegg's workmates who does the Street Fightin'. At Super Versus Battle a couple of years back he went up against the wall and lay down, napped for a few hours, woke up to casually win his group matches, and then went back to sleep. I consider him to be one of the best people ever as a result. Also, he smiles and laughs a lot when playing. A good person.

Thanks for the excellent looking (from the thumbnail) video Yasawas; I'll have a gander once I'm back home. :)

Let's have a complete mario with our toes competition at Heggfest.

GGs Jiro. Apologies for my very basic Ken-ing.

GGs Goemon also. sorry to stick with Dudley the whole time but I'm loving him at the minute and thought going up against a selection of your characters would be good practise. I think it went quite well and I'm quite pleased with my corner pressure and reset game now. Getting into the habit of counting stun and taking extra risks when I think I'm one hit away from dizzying the opponent too. Still lots and lots of improving to do though.

By the way, it's quite frightening how much your Yun has improved since last time I saw you in a lobby. Scary.

Guys I got addicted to Xenoblade Chronicles. I've been playing it for days. If I don't post again this week please send help and orange juice and some more of those chilli heatwave Doritos. Thanks.

Cracking stuff there.

I had a few good matches earlier this ones against a Gouken which I managed to get Elf's HK Guac punish in, though I did have an age to wait fro him to fall. He did have some nice hit confirms into Ultra, though he did seem to rely on this.

and this comeback in the final round against an Ibuki player. I'm not a fan of the match up, mainly because she is quick and has the slide of annoyance :)

the rest of the matches where close but I think the longer I bike the harder it gets :)

ggs jiro and joe, and sorry to people who invited me but i didn't play. There were rival lobbies going on I think. Jiro I should not play ryu against your cody, you clearly know that matchup far too well due to ranked, haha. Also my wildly predictable fireball game. The random select was fun, but my internet started to flake out around then, annoyingly. I definitely got you with a few of the counter-hit setups I've been working on. Just need to actually hit confirm them into some decent damage, haha.

I got juri for a match, and I've never really played much as her, but she seems kinda fun. I might have a go at picking her up for a bit. Though cammy and 'rog are my current beaus.
