Ultra Street Fighter IV

Well, the usual way to do it is to hide it behind some other command. One of the easiest is standing HK. If you're a pro and want to punish jump ins you need to use cr.MK to lower your hitbox and cancel that into a demon. Need to be pretty fast on the command to do this though - almost certainly you'll need to do the shortcut which is to tap LP twice and then press the direction, LK and HP all at once.

For supers as an instant grab punish, buffer by hammering on LP while you're in block stun and then pres forward, LK and HP all at once to make the move come out as soon as you're able to.

Kickstarter will take your money no bother Qazi, sir.

TIL that Ryu's EX tatsu done on wakeup to a Hakan who makes the seemingly insane decision to bust out ultra 2 as he rises will lose and look foolish. And this after a first round where I'd used airborne EX tatsu to avoid it and look awesome.

GGs Heggar. Hegg seemed to be sandbagging for a bit there; before going on a monstrous 12 win streak (although one of those wins was down my stick refusing to go left, honest). I almost got the Gootecks shimmy off on Haggar in a Roggle mirror too. But I got so excited that I completely forgot to input the super. Oh well.

You got the sodding cammy counter hit setup into ultra, despite me knowing cammy was miles away and I wasn't to tech. Just a pity you missed the link haha. I was dropping hit confirms all over the place, but finally learned to stop letting you focus bloody everything. I hate focus attacks so much.

I've been such a salty bastard lately when playing this, apologies to you, Haggar and Joffo who have been on the receiving end. I don't know what it is, think I'm having one of those periods where it's best I leave it alone and stick to other games for a bit, but can't help picking it up for an hour occasionally. And then I get super salty at stupid stuff. You know, like Seth, and throws.

One thing I've noticed, I seem to get really mad when people...what do you call it, a quick LK or whatever followed by a throw (different to tick throws, or is this a tick throw?). Not sure what it is about it that riles me so, will think on it and come back with some bollocks to justify my position I'm sure. Anyway, turns me into a salty mess, as seen last night when Donut did one or two against me and I then tried to kill him with only throws that round.

I mean christ, something is seriously up with me and this game, I keep selecting Ryu. Spend most of my time trying to anti-air with standing HK, which is really satisfying.

Right, so anyway, fun stuff. Our little get together in September, some talking points:

  • Seth is banned
  • Tick throws are banned
  • Shall we start thinking about what kind of little competitions we should get on the go, if any? Last years attempt was cobbled together very last minute, and I rigged it to win. So we should get some ideas going to avoid a similar fate.

p.s. can we openly talk about Evo finals in the thread yet?

I think an AE tournament, SFXT doubles and Mystery Game would all be tremendous.

If you ban tick throws I'm not going, even though it would spare me some Donut trolling, I just love them too much. Also I need a first to 10 against your Bison before the event so I don't get embarrassed come September.

If we ban tick throws then we essentially ban my entire game plan with about 95% of characters. This is doubly bad since I still haven't bothered spending any time working on counterhits, combos, pokes, anti-airs or option selects. Actually, I did do an option select in the a match against donut's rose! It was the cr jab, cr.jab/sweep option select. The sweep whiffed because of rose's amazing backdash. It was the best moment of my street fightin' life.

Also how many times, hegg, did I come close to beating your sodding ryu only to fluff it. Once, maybe, is how many times. Also your bipson is quite wild and pyschotic, which I think suits him nicely. The 'rog matchup can be lame, but somehow it wasn't.

Anyway here's my suggested list of banned characters: seth, rufus, cammy, rufus, yun, yang, rufus, joffo, guile, sub zero, Dural, rufus, tick throws, imp playing any shoto, dhalsim, dark phoenix, birdie, rufus, karnov.

Actually can we also ban mixups, special moves and 'tricks'.

If you promise not to use jumping roundhouse with Seth I don't care how many times I get SPD'd. Guessing wrong in that 50/50 oddly doesn't bother me nearly as much as losing air to airs when I do jump back fierce, particularly when I'm only doing jump back fierce because all of my other anti-airs lose to it. Same thing with Viper and Fuerte for me. I can live with them having supremely powerful mix ups after a knockdown, but it's the way they can derp their way in and don't have to play an honest approach game that makes them anti-Streetfighter characters for me. Ibuki and Akuma can both play a really good game of footsies and usually have to play a bit of mid range before they can start their nonsense, whereas those other three often don't need to bother.

I find your Seth fun to fight against anyway though, and you don't boil the game down to the tedious Online Tony approach, so please ignore any verbal abuse I may hurl your way during the matches and keep going for that swag set up into super because it's awesome.

Also I wouldn't ban Karnov, he may be your best chance of toppling my godlike Jean. I stand by my offer to money match anybody with Jean by the way. 10p maximum, but money matches nonetheless.

We can ban anything! I propose banning use of all characters except the following - Ryu, Ken, Chun-Li, Blanka, Zangief, Dhalsim, Guile, Honda, Bison, Sagat, Vega, Balrog.

Do you see?

Comment on Evo - as much as I can't play the game, I thought the Marvel finals were ace. I especially enjoyed the commentary, whoever that was did a great job, thoroughly enjoyable. I'm bringing this up because I thought the AE commentary stank. I don't think Chen is very good, at all. And as much as I like Seth K, those two combined...I dunno man, it was hardly inspiring stuff. I mean, just as the final match is starting Seth is talking about his own situation...dude, now isn't the time. I didn't dig it.

What I did dig, hard, was Xien's (have I got that right?) commentary of the CEO final the other week, that was wicked. Granted he goes off on some weird tangents sometimes, but that guys knows his stuff! I really like him talking over matches. More please.
