That Ultra

I wouldn't worry too much about rank or whatever - I'm a B of shame but I sometimes lose against the most obvious newbie tactics or win against dry players who have more points than me. Also, come join us in lobbies - we welcome all players. :D

Ryu's taunts are so embarrassing.

I've mentioned it before, but I'm kind of disappointed that Ryu is such a humourless character, because there aren't any particularly jovial taunts and so the player always comes across as SERIOUS BZNZ. See also: Akuma.

Even if I only play as Ken? Would like to join you guys but feel very intimidated, although I'd enjoy the learning experience. Where do I sign up?

Character variation or lack therof is no issue. Some people flit round the whole cast, some people stick to one or two mains, and some people fall in between and have like 5 or 6 semi-mains. There's also a ton of skill variation, so you'll always have a chance against someone (not jellum, though. Never jellum.)

Come and play! We'll be on tonight.

This is true, they even let me play the fools

Cool I will. How do I join up with you guys then? Can someone add me and invite me. GT is TommyG :)

See the link in my sig, it has lots of rllmuk folks in there. Just add yourself and then hit people up with some friend requests.

Good games to Yasawas and TommyG just now! I feel guilty for some of those matches I scraped off Yasawas because his Cammy definitely had my Ibuki nonsense sussed, and I braindead-Vipered my way through his solid Dhalsim stuff; at one point I'm sure I did a burning kick while a limb was going right through me.

TommyG's Ken is lovely! I even got mauled in the mirror match. Not to mention all the other times I got kara-thrown to death. I tried to explain how early you can do the dash after connecting with a focus attack as well, but in my awkward ramble (made more awkward by the ladychum cooking dinner within earshot) I don't think I explained it well at all. Basically as soon as the attack starts, either by letting go of the mk+mp buttons or reaching level 3 charge, you can double tap forward/back, and the dash will still come out at the earliest opportunity, no matter how early you've done it. That means you can spend all that time in between buffering (technical term for 'mashing out') the motion for your follow-up; ultra or whatever.

Also, I got cut off when trying to give character suggestions. I'd definitely go with a non-shoto to broaden your feel for the game. Maybe pick the character you struggle against most as an opponent, and learn their weaknesses through your own defeats?

Good games guys! Thanks for the schooling :) I really need to learn someone other than Ken though. I played a few games with Yasawas as Guile and didn't even know how to do his Ultra! haha

I like your idea of trying Fei Long Joffo so I might give him a go over the next few weeks. Thanks for the tips and info was fun to playing with you guys :)

Our connection went from really solid at first to a bit shonky and I don't know why, geographically you're probably closer than anyone else I play on here. Bloody internets and routers and so on. Anyway your Ibuki is terrifying. I tried to pick her up when Super first came out but then got way into Dhalsim and not doing combos at all and I'd like to give her a solid go now. I keep fucking up that cr.LP, st.LP, MK x spin kicks that seems to be a fairly vital combo to get down but at least you showed me a sweet way to combo U2 in the corner. Also there were a couple of times you seemed to cross me up with something that hit twice, was I imagining that or was it a target combo?

Tommy, it was fun to play you sir! 1000 hours of SFIV and still I can't punish Ken's LP SRK though

I have watched all the Evo and now I'm a bit sad it's all over.

My Dan recovery continued last night. Had a few easy rounds against D & C ranked fighters, managed to hold my own (but still lose) against a A ranked Blanka and had a tight toe-to-toe match against a C Ranked Cody that came down to me blocking an Ultra and hitting him with my own whilst he was still in the animation loop. I called it quits at that point... end the night on a (relatively) high note. Also playing a bit more with Juri, Ken and looking for another fighter to round it out.

I seemed to mistimed going on line last night so I ended up playing some ranked, won a couple of matches but lost a load more.I did face possibly the worst gief I have met yet, well perhaps not as bad as me.

I only spent just over half an hour playing, which isn't very long, but I did it in true Saikyo style with this set up

post-11702-0-36828300-1341908969.jpg

This is due to me having put on over a stone in weight since my little Saikyo students where born, so in an attempt to steer myself away from the look of Rufus and more towards Fei Long (ha) I got the exercise bike out of the garage and peddled like a loon whilst playing said childs fighting game.

After 35 minutes or so I looked like Hakan, all oiled up, red face and knackered, but pleased with myself. Now to see whether I can maintain this more than one night.

In other news my eldest asked me the other morning to see Dan, I was slightly perplexed at first thing it was maybe a boy in her nursery class or Danny Dog from Peppa Pig but then I realised I had my SF lanyard on (neck pass holder thingy) and so I turned it round to where Dan was and she pointed and shouted DAN all excited. At this point I was very proud, but I haven't told the wife yet, hmmmmm.

That should absolutely be the new seating setup for EVO. Imagine little poongko FURIOUSLY pedalling away as his seth dances about on another unfortunate opponent's head.

Splendid parenting all round, plopboy.

Oh, and I played tommyg last night (hello!), but there were the same incredible lag spikes which i sometimes get with Jiro, which rendered us both playing with about 6 seconds of lag. It was quite something and frankly there should be an option to allow that to be a game mode. You'd need godlike hit confirms.
