Ultra Street Fighter IV

To throw out a bold prediction: Eita to take AE singles. It's a ridiculously deep field to try and name one winner, but at Shadowloo Showdown he displayed all the qualities of a perfect 2 out of 3 format tournament player. His Akuma is the perfect mix of bullshit, amazing reads and just enough Xbox Live random factor to beat anybody.

I played a B+ 10,000 BP Ken last night that's whole game consisted of cross up LK, throw and Mash DP/Ultra as so as you were within 2 feet.

Also played a B 6,000 BP Zangief that mashed the fuck of of lariat the entire game.

I was literally amazed! It scares me that people like this get so far...

Sometimes I wonder if those dudes are just trolling me.

Imp.

Buh? I don't have high PP! Nor have I ever, would I ever permit myself let loose such miscreant intent upon the fine upstanding players of rllmuk.

Also I am coming online for afternoon fighter in 5 minutes.

Also, to clarify,

PLEASE PUT EVO RESULTS, SEMI-RESULTS AND DEMI-SEMI-HINTS-AT-RESULTS IN SPOILER TAGS.

Think of that as one of those notes left on the fridge from that housemate you hate. You know the ones. Except don't ignore it just to spite the housemate, because in this case the housemate is old Jellum and he doesn't even get cross when you use the last of the milk and don't replace it.

It's National Kissing Day today, so be nice to those you meet on Xbox Live...

Mwah!

Also, I'd be totally up for a G+ thing if someone can point me in the right direction closer to the time. And if I remember to show up.

I was wondering about that too, as we'll need to spoilerise everything otherwise.

Could use the G+ group, maybe?

I didn't realise G+ has an instant messenger type thing... Sounds like a plan...let's try it. Can you set it up Nate?

Oh, and my Marvel prediction is still Justin to win. The field is ridiculously strong though, so I wouldn't be at all surprised if he doesn't. I'd love to see Combofiend take it, but he'll have to move away from She Hulk when the match up dictates or she's a liabilitiy. Marlinpie has already said he's got another new Doom combo hidden away (as if the one at CEO wasn't mindblowing enough), Justin has secret new Wolverine tech. too. Knives also has Spencer stuff he's saving for Evo. I'm expecting quite a lt of stuff that has been saved for nationals and I'm excited t see it.

My only hope is that Vergil doesn't stink up the top 32 too much. Richard Nguyen and Yipes are allowed, all the other Vergils can go away. Justin's might well win the tournament though. He is such a painfully uninteresting character to watch, aside from when Richard Nguyen turns on the style as only he can. For the most part it goes: rapid slash cross up - > twenty minute sword loop combo - > repeat as necessary. Zero can be similarly dull, though thankfully only Flocker and a small handful of others have the execution to kill a whole team off one touch with him, and as such it can be quite hype when it happens.

Flocker's been dropping a lot of stuff lately though, it's been pretty surprising. That's the silver lining to Zero dullness, imo, one mistake and he's dead because he has like no health.

Also, I thought the Vergil swords loop tech came from Japan?

I agree Justin will probably walk it given how he's dominated with such a new team. I just want some nice surprises along the way. I'm hoping someone will come along and one-up Chris G with a Morrigan-Doom-Rocket Raccoon team. Can you imagine the usual Soul Fist business backed up with Hidden Missiles AND the log trap? It probably doesn't work in practice but in my mind's eye its infuriatingly amazing. Kosoru's not travelling apparently, which is a shame. I love that guy.

I can't pick a winner in AE this year at all. As long as the EG Rufii aren't in grand finals I'll be happy enough. I really like Chi-Rithy's style - all those dash-forward Ultras on reaction to Dieminion booms at CEO (?) were amazing - so I hope he goes far. Obviously I'll be quietly rooting for Poongko, and anyone running Evil Ryu. Is that ERoo that came second in Topanga travelling? Fingers crossed.

E: I hope PR Balrog goes far in both games, he's become a real favourite of mine recently and seems such a nice guy. The bromantic bear-hug he had with Mike Ross after their CEO game was awesome.

I am excited now.

Jesus, no, I don't think I've used G+ since the day it launched. I think Plopboy knows what's up. Or Matt G? Someone must.

I've thought of a few things we could use:

Browser-based Google Chat

Sign into Gmail on the PC browser, click the little chat bubble at the bottom left, hover over a contact's name and click the little chat bubble in the popup. You'll then have a chat box for that contact which you can pop out and move around, but if you press the third button on the top you can invite more people to the conversation.

Hangouts

Go to http://plus.google.com and sign in with your email credentials, then make sure you're on "Home" on the left sidebar and click the button in the upper right labelled "Start a Hangout". You can mute your camera and mic (for instance if it's built into the monitor and cannot be disconnected) and resize the hangout window to get rid of the video share that you're not going to use so that you have a nice narrow chat column to put alongside the stream

Xbox Live Party Chat

Okay, maybe slightly overkill.

Yeah most of the current Vergil tech. comes from Japan, but the Japanese Vergils can go away too. I give Yipes a pass because he's Mr. Marvel and Richard Nguyen because he was somewhat obligated to pick up Vergil what with him being the flashiest Dante player of all. Some of his 200+ hit Dante/Vergil characters are the hotness.

Agreed on PR Rog/Log. He gets very salty after certain losses, but only really at himself because he wants to win every tournament. Other than that he seems like a gent and is also amazingly talented at both games. In AE in particular I'd love to see him make top 8. There are no better Balrogs, his execution, footsies and reactions are as good as anybody's and he's one of those character specialists who plays their character so perfectly that you almost wonder why anyone else bothers. I feel like sending him and Dieminion to SBO gives team USA their best chance in years of doing some damage.

On that note, I'd love to see Dieminion make top 8 for all the same reasons, even if fighting against Guile makes me sadder and angrier (sangria) than any other character.

The Hangouts thing seems easy enough to setup as long as I remember to switch the camera off, sometimes when the screen goes black during a stream I see my "streamface" and I wouldn't wish that on anybody.

I can't see any ERyu having taken part in the Topanga tournament but the only big one I know if is Naruo who was at Shadowloo Showdown and doesn't seem to be at Evo. Tokido's put a list of the Japanese participants on his blog, and if you go back to the main page he's put up a couple of Evo posts recently too:

Nagao and KOK are also top Japanese Evil Ryus, and sadly neither of them are at Evo either. Disappointing, Evil Ryu is excellent. I hope Mr. F'n Naps gets on stream at least.

That list of players on Tokido's blog is crazy though. Aside from ChocoBlanka they're all top 8 candidates.

GGs to JLM and extended GGs to Donut. Had some really nice close matches with Donut, mainly Mak/Seth vs Akuma/Ryu, JLM just dismantled me over and over, the mad secret top tier whore. ;)

When does evo start btw?

Matter of minutes, I think. Sure last year I was watching it before I left work for the day.

One problem with the G+ stuff is that I watch streams fullscreen on the TV with the laptop connected via HDMI like a fucking boss, so anything we do has to be iPad/phone compatible. Hadn't thought of that.

Was it Kindevu that counterpicked his way to top 8 last year? Annoyed the crap out of me. Though the thought of him picking Fei against Ryan in pools makes me chuckle, did you see his reaction after Mago wiped the floor with him in that UK v Japan thing at Cannes? Head in hands for at least a minute.

If you ever wondered what it feels like when I'm trying to join Haggar's lobbies, go and watch the spinning Evo logo for a while; it's pretty much the same mixture of anticipation and disappointment.
