I was trying to figure out which characters nobody on the forum really plays last night. The best I could get was:

Akuma

Oni?

Abel

Adon

Viper

Fei Long

Gen

Gouken

Ibuki

Sagat

Does anyone here play any of those noble lads with any great regularity?

Cale plays Adon. Me and Qazimod play Ibuki.Goemon and Donut both play a good Oni. Asura plays Gen (me and JLM dabble with him too). Imp's been busting out Viper a lot recently; his Akuma is also great. Choo is an amazing Gouken, and he used to be Cale's main. JLM has some scary Gouken stuff too, since obsessing over the amazing AE buffs.

Abel... I dunno. I'm sure there's someone? Everyone plays Fei Long when they want to win.

I main Akuma, and play Viper and Sagat, I even use Abel sometimes, Adon less. Choo plays Fei, Gen and Gouken. Cale also plays Gouken. and Joffles plays Ibuki and goes for hjc ultra a lot.

Edit: iOS typing is slow. Aleister also plays a solid Oni btw.

I'm certain Choo has the strongest Yang. Infuriatingly good. I'm infuriated just thinking about it.

I'd wager Guy is the least played. Apart from him probably being JLM's secret weapon that is.

Juri seems pretty infrequent outside of Qazi's dedication. Blanka seems to have been dropped by most since we all developed a sense of shame. Everyone must, surely, hate Adon.

Choo played a lot of Juri at one point. He's still got a lot of the combos down IIRC.

My Ibuki is seriously underused now. Next time I manage to get in a lobby with you guys you have to force me to pick Ibuki because I imagine it's very rusty. I thought imp had a pretty good Juri once as well, although I might just be confusing him with choo. And yes, Abel was my vanilla main so I sometimes like to play him for old times' sake.

If people updated Plop's spreadsheet with characters used we could get a better idea of things. What about Gen? Asura used to have a mean Gen but I don't even know if he plays anymore... (e: doh, I should read)

I've played a lot of local matches against a pretty great Gen, to the point where I start thinking that I know how to do all the things he does, but then I pick Gen and just get totally destroyed. It's an excellent sensation. Reminds me of when I used to watch my mate Jim play Tony Hawk's 2 for hours, and he'd gotten pretty good and was making big lines and getting 'sick' scores, so I assumed I was just as good, not realising I hadn't even played it. When I tried to show off my skills I jumped while holding R and immediately fell on my face.

From that list I'd say Gouken is my strongest by some distance and I play him quite often. I know all his good buttons and I have combos and frame traps and resets and the like. He'd be on my list of semi-main characters with Sakura and a few others.

I can play Gen somewhat competently and don't facepalm when I get him in random select like most. I dabble in Oni and Akuma but I'm not particularly good with either, and my Akuma game suffers now because all I do is look for teleport cancel ultra 2 opportunities. Fei Long would be next and then I barely touch Abel or Adon (and yes, everyone should hate Adon). Ibuki, Viper, Sagat and Ken are my weakest characters now that Guy isn't my worst any more.

I was considering taking up adon for a bit, but he's just too annoying to play. I think every time I pick him against donut he leaves, which is totally justifiable. I am glad we have a few goukens. I have been obsessing over practicing his corner combos and resets lately. He can do SO much damage in the corner with just 1 bar, it's filth! He seems such a nice kindly old man

also your oni does not count if it is 99% based on unblockable crossup slashes.

Perhaps I will learn abel once i have mastered boxer. He can be my secret heggfest character.

GC Zombie does indeed play Hakan. Myself and Joffo both dabbled for a bit too, coincidentally at the same time so we had Hakan mirrors of all things. When Alistarr plays Hakan he likes to do focus crumple - > focus attack - > ultra 2 for maximum scaling and maximum swag.

I kind of wish SFIV had a character-lock random select so that we could do random lobbies and I'd be encouraged to use someone other than Juri or Blanka or Gief. Maybe I should just create a custom spinner with paper and safety pins...

I wish it had a lot of things. There are loads of minimal wee changes that could be made which would keep things fresh. Simple things like rematches and quick four man league lobbies, to more exotic things like making all normals chain or having infinite meter or both ultras, or opponents picking each others' character. Or a points based lobby where you bet on how confident you are to win the match, and those not playing can bet on who will win, once you see the characters you can double down, and whoever has the most currency at the end is the winner. Those not playing can get more winnings by betting on the type of finish (super, ultra, chip etc).

I think I'd put my best characters as Yang and Juri but after nerfs and lack of playing recently I'm pretty mediocre (at best!). Thanks for the kind words but I've really not progressed where you chaps now have the solid mind games and consistant links! Can you all undo how awesome you've got recently? Ta!

Fei is just the counter-Troll to Imp's Sagat and I can barely remember Gen and Gouken! I don't want to be a character hog, just Yang will do (with his cross-up back pls)! Saying that I'm happy to dump some (year old) Yang stuffs for anyone who's interested!

Yeah, the ability to dick about with system settings in lobbies would be the best thing. Surely there are PC mods which allow this wonderment to occur. Whaddaya say, lads?

I combo'd two Soul Fucks with Rose against Jiro last night. I'll probably never do it again. I also hit stomps into Super mid-screen with Seth. I'll be trying to land that quite a lot at Heggfest. Not that anyone cares, because you all hate Seth; which in turn probably means you all hate me.
