Ultra Street Fighter IV

That's funny, ULTIMATE BLANKA was in my random lobby tonight as well. If I'm remembering right, he also quit after I kicked him with my Chun. Heh!

I also tried to play some Strekken earlier. It takes longer to get a ranked match than AE. I think we should do some more rllmuk lobbies on it. No gems, prizes for the best costumes.

It's a shame, really. I'm not the only one who's just getting back into fighting games because for the last decade they've not been accessible, and the first new release to get excited about is kind of a broken Pokemon with terrible PR.

That said, winning with no gems is a lot of fun.

I think they should release a gem that hides the fact that you are using gems, a gem that makes you flash white after you tech a throw, and a gem that brings up the "send message" dialogue box for your opponent any time you win a game.

I will almost always happily switch between games if I'm online fighting something.

Sorry JLM, yeah, I got tired of fighting strange people. I'm here this morning but going out today, back tomorrow some time.

2,998 guys. I can almost taste it, which means I'll lose to an ultra 2 Ryu next.

Things I've noted about ranked so far:

1) Nobody likes to block ever. Meaty kikoken - > walk up - > block will get people to do the craziest things. Everyone seems to think they have the read on me in that situation, and I've had seemingly great players mash out EX uppercuts and ultras because they're so sure I'm going to walk into it.

2) Everyone has a pocket Blanka. It's a good thing I used to main Blanka and have a ton of experience in the match up, because so often when I fight someone I've beaten before they'll go to Blanka for the run back. He's really not very good guys! He is still a lot of payers' demon character though, so I can see why they do it. I beat a 3,000+PP guy earlier who was using T. Hawk. Horrid match up for Hawk and I beat him very easily indeed. Next time I fought him he busted out his 18,000(!!)BP Blanka and I beat that too. I thnk Chun wins that match up quite comfortably unless the Blanka lames it out. He can compete quite well with her pokes, but she can fight all of his hop shenanigans and she can get free meaty pressure on him when he doesn't have an EX upball. Also Ultra 1 punishes errant Blanka balls and badly spaced slides , and ranked Blankas do plenty of both. I expect the Blankas with that many points to either be extreme turtler/footsie Blankas or have the TS RAI style mix ups of doom, but this guy didn't really have either. Odd.

3) Fuertes and Vortex characters are so horrible in a one match setting. You get one round to gather all the information you can and then you have to wing it. If they have two rounds' worth of tricks it can be game over. The positive is that so many of the players doing this don't have the first idea how to play Streetfighter if they can't get their vortex going. I had an Ibuki player who perfected me in the first round with vortex shenanigans, then I perfected him round 2 using nothing but fundamentals because he didn't know what to do when I got the first knockdown instead of him. He had 10,000BP too. Fraud!

4) Hosenka is the best ultra almost all of the time. Kikosho has that perk of being hittable anywhere on screen, but the corner carry range of ultra 1 is deceptively long, and Hosenka has so many other uses. as well as doing more damage Iperu seems to have made Fuerte popular again because I've run into quite a few on this venture, and Ultra 1 punishes splashes on whiff and on block, and you can punish his whiffed off the wall splash on reaction. I've also hit Adons who were trying to fake me out with short/medium jaguar tooth. So much utility aside from its main use as an anti-fireball threat.

Now to see if I can win those precious remaining 2 points and escape this pit of gimmicks and despair for a while.

Haha. If they're successful I sometimes dust off my own Blanka for the run back of the run back and punish their Blanka balls with Blanka balls.

Also I just got matched up with a guy who only had 900PP, so when I beat him I was awarded just one point.

2999!

Excellent. The most I ever got with Hakan was just over 2000. I'm currently sitting with less than 500, thanks Guy. I'm hoping to get online tonight and maybe, just maybe, win one game.

Quick Guy question: Is his HK tatsu useful as an anti air at all? I always just sail high over the opponent without actually hitting them.

Props, Jellum. Sorry I couldn't play you earlier. I snuck on to hit the training room to finally try out my super secret Heggfest character (everyone's doing this, right?) and was hoping to get a game or two in with you. But just as your invite came in my son woke up from his nap and that was that. Hopefully soon though.

CEO money matches son:

Good gameses to Haggar and Donut earlier, my connection is a bit moody today but hopefully it didn't get too bad. Always get red bars with Joffo though for some reason, joined the lobby then decided it might be a good time to make and eat food rather than wait around and get kicked by the telecommunication gods.

By 'super-secret Heggfest character' cale means Guile and by 'my son' he means me. And by 'woke up from his nap' he means 'started loudly cranking in front of the telly'.

I'll stop now.

It is, I do and he did.

It really does. At CEO FlashMetroid was showcasing brand new Sakura unblockables every time he got on stream. There are still entire characters who I don't think have been anywhere near fully explored and exploited for their potential cheapness.

Someone explain 7.07 in this video to me at once. A midscreen combo into ryu's ultra 1 with no FADC. Aaagh.

Also how do unblockables work in this? Is it that the active hitbox hits on one side, then the other, so you have to switch the side you're blocking at exactly the right frame kind of walfway through the move? Because whenever people mention unblockables they talk about 'just frame' blocking, or something. Or are they just totally unblockable. It's something I've never quiet been clear on.

Sako popularised that combo when those videos of him messing about in training were posted at the beginning of last year. I thought he came up with it but apparently it was listed on the Ryu forums on SRK before that.

Solar plexus strike - > close standing MK - > ex fireball - > Ultra. Close standing MK has so little push back that they stay close enough for the ultra to hit. It came up on here quite a while ago and we (well, at the very least Imp and I) went through a phase of trying to land it in matches.

Some of his Rose stuff was pretty nuts as well.

And yes, unblockables in this game are actually one frame blockables. If you hold the direction either way then you'll get hit, but if you happen to press the correct direction on the exact frame that it is the correct direction you can block them. There are also various other escapes because they work on the basis of being not quite meaty attacks.

Hey, I try to land that combo every time I use Ryu too! :(

I'm not as good a Ryu though. Talking of characters I don't use very well, I wanna have a decent Sakura like everyone else. What's the most infuriating tatsu loop I should learn? Also, the link that ends standing jab, cr.mk, SRK that doesn't look like it should reach. When's that best used?

Also, which dress is nicest? I like the white with yellow flowers.
