Ultra Street Fighter IV

This is a good game. I had to wait a couple of hours after work for the lady to finish on tuesday, so I went to that One Level Up in glasgow to play for a cheeky hour because it's difficult to waste time in town now there aren't loads of identical GAME stores to shuffle through.

Intended to pay the £3 for the hour to get a stick and play on live, but the guy, Kenny, behind the counter asked if I wanted someone to play, so I had a good hour session against him. He's got an excellent thunder knuckle cancellin' Viper and a fair few other characters under his belt, so it was a good time. 99% of my Street Fightin' being online, it's weird not having to deal with mad lag spikes. It's all so smooth and lovely. Plus less dropped links. He showed off with some FFF x EX Seismo > Burning Kick > Ultra combo action, and I got to do my 2nd favourite Dan combo of j.hp, hp x hp.gadouken FADC cl.mp, cr.mp x mp.gadouken FADC cl.mp x lk.dankick > Ultra 2.

Plus loads of my first favourite Dan combo of KRK FADC crouching taunt. It's much more fun when you can see their face.

STREET FIGHTER!

I'd say Hegg confirmation is pretty important. Hyper Pea-Yah also, just so we can do impressions of Hegg at him all day. And remark favourably on his polite little voice. And maybe curse his Makoto. And make jokes about connection errors a lot.

Didn't Carlumbo say he'd make sure to appear? I never did find out for definite if he was taller than Donut. They're both too high up to read what it says on the tape measure.

It's so good. Breakers Revenge, Karnov's Revenge and World Heroes Perfect are my top 3 poverty fighters of the moment as they're all legitimately great fun to play as well as having that poverty appeal. This list changes frequently though. I don't know if Rage of the Dragons or Power Instinct Matrimelee count as poverty games either, but they're also two of my favourite fighting games poverty or otherwise. Oh, and Kabuki Clash, Ninja Masters and Martial Masters. Also Kizuna Encounter and, to a lesser extent, the woeful Aggressors of Dark Kombat.

Oh, and whenver possible Art of Fighting 3, partly for the jumbo sprites and abonimbable music, but mostly for Karman Cole, the world's most bad ass estate agent:

He has an OTG move where he picks you up by the lapels and delivers the most satisfying punch to the face in any video game. What a man.

Jellum, while you're here, do you have any idea why oni can't FADC his uppercut? I was discussing this with someone on another part of the internet and we couldn't work it out.

To encourage chip finishes.

Also, Heggarty; I'll be on this afternoon from about half past three, if that's still valid for fights?

I don't know really. I don't think he'd be especially overpowered with a cancellable uppercut. He has great rushdown and mix ups, but nothing in his offense is as powerful as Akuma's vortex, for example. I assume it was just another way of setting him apart from other shotos because there are quite a lot of them in SF4 now. I actually quite like it about him, because when you see a player like Combofiend who is all about reading the opponent, it's cool that he has to do good old fashioned honest uppercuts. His uppercut is pretty godlike and has good recovery on landing to compensate though, and at least he can still cancel it on hit for FADC ultras too. The EX one does SO. MUCH. CHIP.

Eggcellent, send me an invite when you're ready, I might play something else for a bit.

I'm going to force everyone to play Persona 4 Arena at Heggfest, because it looks a bit like Jojo's Bizarre Adventure. Also it's out on the 31st of August, so no one can get good at it.
