Ultra Street Fighter IV

I thought the 360 Twitch app was US only.

Really? Aw. I was watching some stuff off Spooky's YouTube in glorious HD on my telly earlier and wishing we could watch live the same way when I went Googling and found https://twitter.com/TwitchTV/status/209691829132738560

The Android app works well on my phone the odd time I've used it, the iPad one is a bit of a disaster though.

Yeah they seem to be actively improving it at least. It loads streams more often than it used to as it was about 50/50 whether it would before, but my new main issue is play controls disappearing so the only way I can come out is to click the home button, and even then it keeps streaming audio until I switch the machine off as even force quitting it from the background apps list doesn't kill it.

Aye that was a shame. I've had that sometimes when I've been invited by people I can play with fine, I can't find any logic to it.

Had some fun random games with Joe there which exposed how few ultras I know how to do after two and a half years of this. It should show you at the start, like 3S.

Thanks, Donut. Won't be able to watch for a couple of hours now. Hopefully I'll be able to watch top 8 depending on its start time.

Just saw that team Asia va team north America. Good fun.

Just finished that Marvel top 16 from ECT4. It somehow managed to be better than the Marvel tournaments at Shadowloo Showdown and Final Round. I didn't think that was possible but it was.

Marvel top 16 was outstanding. You can't beat East coast tournaments for Marvel. West Coast hasan amazing array of talent these days, but East Coast matches it in my opinion. More importantlythan that though, the hype there for Marvel is still on a different scale to anywhere else. Theturn out and the range of players and areas represented here was great too, and this year onlyFinal Round has had a comparably strong bracket to this one. As a bonus, the guy fromOneframelink adding a $3,000 pot bonus for first place added even more spice to it.

Roach King beliminating Noel Brown at top 16 was very impressive, though it's not that surprisingto see the Final Round players beating name players. They don't travel very often but they havesome amazing players in Atlanta. DBJoseph's Sakura in AE doesn't get enough recognition either.Masta CJ vs Ricky Ortiz was a close set, which is impressive given that Ricky still isn't thatserious a Marvel player. He got blown up in the first couple of games but responded with aperfect, took the next one and then narrowly lost the fifth. I wouldn't be that surprised ifRicky starts pushing for the AE/Marvel double at future majors.

ChrisG vs Combofiend in top 16 was a set worthy of any grand finals. Two of the best in the worldpulling out all their best stuff and even busting out some never before seen trickery. I lovethat Combofiend has gone back to She Hulk full time. His was always the only one really worthwatching back in Vanilla and his set ups and resets are still a joy to watch. ChrisG isexceptionally good too of course. It's easy to focus on the Morrigan bullet hell stuff and missthe fact that his Doom and Akuma routinely win him games against the best, and his all roundMorrigan game outside of the fireball madness is the best in the business too. Also his Doom doesthe Marlinpie Swag combo and I always love seeing that. The fact that ChrisG lost the set to anair grab of all things shows you just how evenly matched these two are.

After that match they announced that FChamp vs Marlinpie and Yipes vs Fanatiq were the next twomatches. I struggle to believe that even Evo will have a top 16 quite like this.

Marlinpie vs FChamp a set worthy of any etc. and in fact it was the final at Shadowloo Showdown.Marlinpie someow continues to come up with new Doom combos, the spectacular bastard that he is,and I'll say again that I wouldn't be at all surprised if FChamp is top 3 at Evo this year. Whata ridiculous top 16.

Yipes vs Fanatiq looked like it was going to be free for Yipes after the first two games, whichis a good argument for all these Marvel majors switching to 3 out of 5. Very impressive fromFanatiq to keep it together and capitalise on a couple of big mistakes from Yipes to take the setback. It's a good thing for SoCal that Justiin Wong has a Vergil team now because there aren'tenough of them there compared to everywhere else and Fanatiq didn't seem to know what to do.

RayRay vs Yipes was a heartbreaker for Yipes, who uncharacteristically dropped so many bigopportunities and didn't play like himself at all. RayRay also played fantastically well though, and I don't think anyone in the U.S. has a better Sentinel than him. An X-factor-less Sentinelcomeback against Vergil and Hawkeye just shouldn't happen, and I don't think any other Sentinelcould pull that off. I love his Ryu/Drones technology too, both the mix ups and the extendedcombos wring out maximum potential from that pairing.

Fanatiq beating FChamp has to be considered an upset because Champ has a history of murderingFanatiq at majors. Fanatiq has clearly been working on the match up though, and he was one of thefew players I saw who abused the fact that Phoenix players have to defend against meter stealingTAC's. FChamp has said himself that people should do that more against him and he doesn'tunderstand why they don't. I also like that Fanatiq has the confidence to take the approach ofkilling the first two characters before Phoenix gets five bars rather than snapping her in offevery hit. The system changes going into Ultimate were designed to let you do that againstPhoenix teams and I think more players should. If Champ gets the first hit and builds a ton of

meter then you need to try and get her in to stop it while you can, but if the opponent lands a hit on Magneto first then all top players are more than capable of killing him and putting Champ in a difficult position. Very impressive win from Fanatiq.

Combofiend vs RayRay was amazing. Holy shit. I love East Coast crowds the most. RayRay oneof the East Coast's last two representatives in the top 8, looking for redemption after a humiliating to loss to Fanatiq in their big money match. Combofiend one of the West Coast'sfinest. The matches were hype enough as it was, with Combofiend pulling out the classic Spencercomebacks and RayRay's Sentinel being the best Sentinel in the universe. What made it greater was the crowd getting hpy efor every hit RayRay landed and shouting along with Ryu on every super. Incredible stuff. Combofiend dropped the match winning Spencer zip line in two consecutive games, then RayRay pulled out yet another incredible Sentinel comeback in the last one to take the setand send the crowd berserk. I root for Combofiend 99.9% of the time, but I was desperate forRayRay to win here. Superb.

RayRay vs FChamp was similarly brilliant. What an amazing run through the losers bracket fromRayRay. He had a point to prove after the Fanatiqq match and he brought his best game on finals day to do it. He forced FChamp to drop his Phoenix team here, and showed off more amazing Ryu/Sentinel tech along the way. The hype for this was insane as well.

Justin Wong then interjected and spoiled all the fun by being too damn good. He's playing his one week old team and keeping it as basic as possible and he still gets second place at the tournament of death. I'm still of the opinion that Justin is the best Marvel player in the world. With all the countless strong players out there, the team changes and many other variables you

don't get quite the same consistency with results as you did back in the MVC2 days, but on raw talent and understanding of how to approach the game I still think he's the best.

Grand finals felt a bit flat because most of the crowd left after RayRay got eliminated. I was pleased to see Fanatiq win as he's been due a major win for years now. There was some speculation when Ultimate came out that the removal of the DHC glitch would cripple his team, but he's found a ton of new ways to make the classic MSS team work in this game. Excellent DHCs, great cornerset ups, that MVC2 movement and rushdown and an underrated defensive game. Seems like a very nice guy

too, so that's good. Between the money match and the main tournament he must have made around $10,000 from his trip to ECT, which isn't bad going at all.

Fanatiq's post-win interview on stream was lovely. So humble and so overwhelmed by his stupendously successful weekend. I loved that he got his tournament prize money as a fat wad of cash as well, he looked like he was about to cry. Awwww. RayRay couldn't pull out the ultra-hype win, but this ended up being an even nicer moment. Well done that man.

I have to go to bed - if any of you do that maybe-it's-half-a-spoiler-but-I'm-not-explicitly-going-to-say-what-happened type talking about the stuff that happens without using spoiler tags thing tonight then I will be very cross. Think of it as being in training for Evo and just use the spoiler tags!

GGs to scott and Yasawas this afty, fun bit of random select in there. Was dead chuffed to land Balrog's Dirty Bull for the KO, one of the few I actually remembered.

Also enjoying that I'm getting more results when I search for same-skill ranked. I'm off the bottom rung!

For what it's worth I've just logged on and it's Marvel on Spooky's stream. Not sure how far along it is but I'm guessing that I won't be able to see AE to the end. So, yeah, spoilers in the morning please! :)
