Ultra Street Fighter IV

JLM

Recommended Posts

I've update the poster to include TheShend and Hyper P, sorry if anyone else has been missed out but I have run out of room, but as JLM said consider yourself a special guest :)

Updated some bits of text and put a better version of the Hegg logo in and some other little tweeks.

Nah he's gone back to Ryu I think, adventurous chap that he is.

I'm like the anit-daigo, crap and likes the bottom tier characters :)

I'm in for VF5FS.

Anyway, doing some ouni work tonight, and misread the following:

post-5249-0-48857200-1338408889_thumb.jp

My first thought was "How does this know about SFIV in the first place, the book was written in 2000!"

Also it was as dull as it looks.

Also, Heggfest (I may have been about 50 pages or so behind, and skipped them)?

I have gathered enough Guy tech that I could probably write a guide on him at this point.

Please do! You are light years ahead of my Guy with your talk of counterhit combos and mixups. I'm still at the basic combo stage.

It was 3 months ago I decided to pick up Guy, and until this week I'd only put in about 4 hours into learning the character. I decided that if I can make it to Heggfest I need to actually practise, so on Monday I took my xbox into work and have been loudly tapping out combos during my lunch break. My all button controller is quite noisy, but it really does work brilliantly with guy.

I've only just realised that the opponent can jump out of ultra 2 on seeing the flash. It was my ultra of choice until that revelation. I'm not a massive fan of ultra 1 as it hardly does any damage, especially as it tends to get massively damage scaled after long hit confirms and target combos. I might stick with ultra 2 as I still have my grappler knowledge of being aware when opponents have left themselves at a frame disadvantage.

Tomorrow lunch will be spent doing ex run - stop - ultra 2 until my fingers turn arthritic. Then Friday will be armour cancel - ultra 2, but I probably lack the dexterity for that. After failing to progress my skills, I will probably make the inevitable switch to ultra 1 next week. The problem there being that I will have to learn to FADC ultra which is something I haven't ever had to deal with being a butter churning grappler.

More gentle reintroduction to Street Fighter from Jellum tonight.

My teching is so poor it's untrue. I think I was eating a solid average of four throws a round and any c.lk got swiftly counterhit into horrible damage - I really need to try and drop them later. There was many a shout of "I was fucking teching that!" ringing around north west London.

Need to science up some better quick pokes with Gouken too. Not sure what other options he has as cl.mp is so short on range and s.mk whiffs for fun on Guy.

I also keep forgetting that they changed the command for the low counter from kick to lp. Hence the odd random midscreen tatsu.

A few more head grabs in the mixups from you this evening too which is a worrying sign for the future!

GGs once again. I did a couple of new things and they mostly worked so that was good. Did you see my new safe jump set up with the whiffed normal and everything? Not messing about over here.

Re: Gouken buttons:

Far standing medium punch is a good normal at mid screen purely because it looks exactly like his animation for throwing a fireball and is a great bait. Far standing roundhouse is a great poke for Gouken, even if it feels a bit weird to be using that button to poke with a shoto-like character. It's only one frame slower than standing MK but has better range, a much better hit box and does more damage/stun. Gouken's sweep can just be thrown out there in a way that other shotos' can't as well. It's only one frame slower than Ryu's but has infinitely less recovery. Easily one of the best sweeps in the game.

Oh dear. My flatlord has decreed that I must move out of my house for the month of August so he can renovate. This means I am a) unable to offer hospitality if Heggfest does happen in August and b) I will also need a place to stay (although I may could sort that out off-forum without too much hassle).

Ha! The completion of Juri's 18th trial has resulted in another new title for me to flaunt. The ending was a nightmare to pull off as I had to finish with Ultra 2 but the previous attack always sent the dummy a bit too far away, leading me to try and do some hurried half-step-Ultra manouver without panicking too much and dashing or stuffing my commands up.

Ibuki still has more completed trials than anyone else though. :( Trial Fighter.

I might be about in the evenings if I can get some stuff I need to get done, done :) that and If I can drag myself away from Dragon's Dogma.

Oh and I played Max Anarchy and it is very good, you can do things like shoryukens, taunting and some very nice grab moves. That and you can hit people repeatedly with cars. Much fun.

Lovely replay joffo. Slapped him up real nice.

I done had a load of games against lots of different folks on the grind with Guy. The Gruynd.

Played ten games against Cobelcog and his excellent, excellent Rose. He has excellent frame traps and footsies, makes terrifying use of Ultra 2 and has lots of super flashy combos you don't often see from Rose players. Only managed two wins, and the first one was the first game of the set and that never counts. Still pleased with my showing though as he's a character specialist and I had to adapt fast after getting murdered in the first few games. After that I was at least taking a round in most of the games and he was having to work harder to beat me, so that was a positive. The game I won I had to play out of my skin to beat him. Option selecting his back dashes, landing my new reset that I usually mess up and using everything I'd picked up from the previous games to know when to tatsu, when it was safe to tech and how to mix him up. A satisfying victory indeed.

Oh, and there was one game where I won the first round, lost the second, was doing well in the third and then he unleashed beast mode on me and I just had to sit and watch.

He won the round with: Crouching fierce - > jab soul spark - > FADC - > Ultra 2 - > Orb hits - > standing roundhouse - > Orb hits - > crouching fierce - > reflect - > soul throw.

Swag.

Just uploaded a replay from ranked where I Honda'd a Dan to death with jab x hands antics. Stunned him and landed a jump in hard punch, cr.lk, cr.lp x hp hands > standing hk. I am happy with it.

Just watched your replay joffles and thought it was worth uploading if only for the last round

even if you should have been playing Dan :P

Had a nice little lobby with Donut and Haggar last night, where my Gief got bodied by the Mayor twice, forcing me to switch to T. Hawk (who is, I've decided, way more fun to use than Gief because of those angled attacks. I don't know why I don't use him more.) Ended up in a Hawk mirror with Haggar and took the match, but we ran it back and he beat me. After Thomas received a similar smackdown from Donut's Seth (not a fun matchup for either of us) we switched characters and indulged in some Juri vs. Yun dive-kicking shenanigans, which didn't go so well. For me, at least. Still, geegs all. :)

Try T. Hawk!

As fun as he is in matches I'm pretty rubbish at the trials. I kind of dabbled with everyone's challenges whilst trying to increase my completion % but for Hawk I'm more content with spamming dives and command throws than trying to combo anything :P

You kept getting me with bloody crossup condor dives too, haha. I can never time those right. Terrence is a fun character though, swooping around the place as is his wont.

I was just so incredibly tired last night I basically forgot how to play. It was entirely remarkable. Then I had stroopwaffel and went to bed.
