A valuable resource.

I did have to pause midgame to check the manual for his moves which might be read as a small flaw in my game. I was hitting DEM LINKS like I was Tony Montana and they was Frank's boys from Columbia though. Crouch jab into target combo into shoulder shit that doesn't combo? HELLS YES!

Couldn't for life of me remember his command normal slide though.

Cody is fucked against Guy, possibly even more than he is even against other mix up heavy characters like Akuma.

I think some games against TKO Rimz might have clouded your judgment as it's really not a bad match up for Cody. 6-4 Cody or 5-5 at worst on most match up charts. Is this like the talk of zoning Dee Jay being S-Tier?

re: Jiro:

Cody has the same gameplan against most of the cast, that being frame traps. Towards + medium punch and close standing medium punch give you massive frame advantage, then you can mix up jabs, your extremely fast crouching light kick, tick throws and pauses to bait something. Against Guy you can be quite aggressive with this because both of my main escape options require meter, and my EX tatsu is punishable and I can't FADC it.

Also, although it's risky, you do need to use an occasional EX zonk if I'm going in too hard and pressing loads of buttons just to stop me pressuring for free. Also challenge me out of the air more with pre-emptive roundhouse Ruffian kick or back + medium punch. The latter is one of the most useful anti-air normals in the game.

Crouching medium kick slide to lower your hitbox is extremely useful against Guy flip pressure, to the point that Cody players consider it a winning match up for him. Also, much like Dhalsim, you can use it to slide under jump ins and switch sides to escape the corner. Cody's focus attack also blows up elbow pressure better than most because of how he stands up during the focus animation.

He struggles with the run stop pressure a little bit in the same way he struggles against other frame trap pressure due to lack of a reliable and safe get off me move, but even then you just need to be patient. Also Cody has a three frame crouching light kick, and three frame normals are very annoying for Guy. You can escape run stop pressure with it unless it's absolutely air tight (it usually isn't, even when the best Guy player in the world doesi it), and you can punish unsafe slides and the like with crouching light kick into special move.

So (and forgive me if I'm being dumb here) see EX Zonk on wakeup... is that something I should be doing? It feels wrong releasing buttons on wakeup, always feels like I'm going to do it too early cos I'm scared of doing it too late and eating something meaty/with invulnerability.

Towards the end of the set with Jayellum it didn't feel quite as one-sided as it did at the start but I still got a right kicking.

I generally tend to avoid playing Guy players because my Alpha 3 performance against online Guy players still haunts me. I think Willei's Guy beat me 952593682-0 on Kaillera once and that was enough to break me. :(

EDIT:

it's like playing 'gief and not being able to SPD.

wait, I do that

It should be used sparingly, but it's pretty much all you have so you can't be too scared to ever use it or people will take liberties on your wake up. If you have three meters then you can FADC as well.

Me? Exaggerate? Nah. We should run some Cody v Guy though. Or anyone vs. Deejay.

Okay, I've been running some simulations on Guy v Cody. (i.e. playing against the computer set to hardest).

Well, it's not a very good simulation because input reading stops Cody's frame trap game dead, but I agree, cr.LK and cr.MK are invaluable. HK Ruffian is also very useful, and it's not too hard to safe jump Guy's EX spinny spin kick.

Guy's cr.MP is ridiculous though.

Delores, you're now listed as appearing on the promotional materials and it doesn't say that the line up is subject to change. Plopboy will be in a lot of hot water if you don't show. Hyper P and some other notably absent names are presumably going to be surprise guests.

It would then also need to have a fucking massive box with multiple poorly recorded cassette tapes inside.

Vague mention of rave. Countdown to Funtime Dave entering the thread in ten, nine, eight, seven.....
