Congrats to Nate and Al the 100% pure SF :)

I haven't played this little game for what seems like an age, so once the family weekend busyness is over I might try and get a few game in but I have Dragon's Digna waiting to be played, oh the first world problems I have :)

GGs Allystarr for earlier. I don't like this "meaty ultra is the new wakeup ultra" nonsense. Not one bit.

This evening I played some poverty games with a friend, inspired by UFGT as I was last year. We played Power Moves on Super Nintendo and Time Killers on the Mega Drive. They are both utterly terrible. Power moves is a particularly shameless SF2 rip off, including knock offs of various characters' theme songs.

Also played some Death Tank and quite a bit more Hidden in Plain Sight, which ended up convincing one more person to buy the game. Local Multiplayer, how I love thee.

Haha, you have to time it so it's just about not meaty (vegetarian?), otherwise they can block on reaction. Best utilised against characters without good wake-up options, and players who like to backdash.

Gutted your Bison ultra 2 beat out Hawk's ultra 2 in that one game. Delighted to get chip wins with Bison's super. After I made dinner I dropped into Marvel training mode because UFGT8 had got me excited about it. I suck worse than before but we should play some of that because it's good.

Im waiting for Capcom to fix SFxT and I cant be arsed with SSFIV so I'm in PS2 poverty fighter mode at the moment. Been playing Bloody Roar 3, Fuuun Super Combo (Savage Reign and Kizuna Encounter) and I've just started on Hokuto No Ken.

I take back what I said before about the Bloody Roar games after the second one. They're actually really good.

it is the better game, but I'm just not finding it very interesting at the moment. Which is fine because it might mean I actually play KOF XIII, Arcana Hearts 2 and Blazblue Extend. I might even play Marvel which I love but makes me very sad because I am so utterly, utterly shite at it.

Anyway, I'm building the ultimate PS2 HDD setup. Although it won't actually be ultimate because no Darkstalkers or Alpha.

On topic, I saw Mean Streets, Taxi Driver and Raging Bull on the big screen on Friday night, which was excellent. I would have seen Goodfellas and Casino too but because I have the organisational skills of a particularly dim ox, I had completely forgotten that I was taking my son to music school at 9AM Saturday morning and coming out of a cinema at 7AM then immediately spending the day playing Dad would probably have actually killed me. Fucking mook.

Um. When is Heggfest?

EDIT: The tag system in Kizuna Encounter is excellent.

Congratunathans! Well done Nate. I tried to congratulate you over the weekend but my phone wasn't letting me post. I lost lots of games with Cody last night, mostly against people much better than me so it was ok. Arcadeplayer100? with a horrible vortexy Ibuki, kept coming back for more - I think cos I was stealing the odd round and not because they wanted all those +1s to their PP

Today I didn't know what to play, so I played everything. SF Alpha 3 on the PSP (why is Blanka so much worse than his SF4 equivalent? Why hasn't Ingrid been in another beat 'em up for years?), then later some 3rd Strike in the evening, then another half-arsed attempt at some AE trials.

Street Fighter.

I ended up playing a bit of ranked and mostly loosing though I have manged to get my Elf up to 1200BP , I still struggle to get any consistency and missed so many punish opportunities.

I just need to calm down a little and try and react more appropriately.

Then I went and played Dragon's Dogma which is ok.

I went to a barbeque and then came home and did cider fuelled poverty fighter with a friend. I have new Karnov's Revenge tech guys. I discovered a fourth special move for Jean, which is performed by charging down and then inputting a tatsu motion. That's a rather silly command. I also found that you can do his amazing bullet punches by pressing all four punches together and then mashing punch to keep it going, so you can start it instantly without having to do the usual hands/electricity input. Basically I can do piano hands style combos with him now. No one is safe.

Also in Breakers Revenge I found out that Tila has Chun Li lightning legs. I've played that game countless times and I never knew that. I never thought to try it because she has Fireball/SRK/Tatsu and I figured they wouldn't bother giving her anything else. Breakers Revenge is on the poverty borderline really though as it's quite a legitimately good game.

Awesome AE match from UFGT8 that everyone should watch, for a couple of reasons (youtube link included):

Firstly because here's Ricky working that "cautious Rufus" style that I've been trying to develop with the help of JLM's kind of running commentary that goes a bit like "why do you never anti-air" etc etc, but Ricky's obviously better at it than mere mortals. Secondly because this is a perfect example of what we really mean when we talk about high-level play - not that the dudes are doing bigger combos, but that every read isn't just a read of what the opponent wants to do but what he wants to do because what he wants to do would get read so hard so he's going to do something else but maybe his opponent's onto that so he should do a third thing or maybe just the first thing anyway. It's like a conversation that kind of goes back and forth across rounds, which is perhaps even more remarkable given that it's Rufus and Viper. And thirdly because the end is great.

"Siddown!"

If you're watching the levelup stream archives then don't worry, you won't miss it.

I don't know what your computer is like but it runs surprisingly well on mine, and has a bunch of options for turning down the shiny stuff for lesser machines.

This is for the original SF4 (let's call it "one S" from now on) but the two are pretty similar in requirements, maybe download it and see what it says: http://downloads.gur...nload-2310.html

You can also do stuff to optimise it by getting mods for the stage backgrounds that are less resource-intensive (someone made a plain black background, someone else made one that replaces every stage with the training stage so there's nothing moving, other people have made stages with just 2D images for backgrounds). If you do get it and need any help with any of that just shout and I'll try and drag all of those memories back!

GGs Delores. Thanks for putting up with my no longer very secret at all secret character. I'm finding him so much fun to play at the moment and I feel like I'm getting a bit better each time. He really suits my play style and I feel like I should have picked him up sooner. I was pleased that a good number of the safe jumps and dirty ambiguous cross ups I've been practising landed, and I hit a few links and counter hit combos I hadn't done in a match before so that was good too. There's one particular reset I've been trying to land since I first picked up the character and started watching tutorials and stuff that I've still only managed to do once against some random in endless battle. I get so salty every time I mess it up because it looks so slick when it works. Need to invest some lab tme on that I think.

That cross up is obscene - as is his throw range! Spent a lot of time feeling very much at frame disadvantage terrified of pressing anything.

I am too rusty these days to put up a decent fight against a polished character from you devils sadly.

One day I will tech your post blocked normal on wakeup throws. One day....
