Ultra Street Fighter IV

JLM

Recommended Posts

ggs to JLM. Donut and Haggar last night. I think I bored JLM off Live with a Situationist interpretation of Street Fighter, which involved matches where I used Blanka but either a) only tried to use cr.LK and combos off it although I forgot and did other things or b) used no special moves, supers or ultras. The second one was at least a bit educational - I didn't realise how much st.MP could do. But yes, sorry about that JLM.

Had lots of fun with Donut and Haggar, highlight of which was a wonderfully moving piece about the futility of rage expressed through a skillfully synchronised Marseille Roll, Tiger Uppercut exchange that lasted almost a whole round.

After one match Haggar messaged me "Reaction!" This confused me - I wasn't sure if he wanted to know how I was reacting to the loss (tearfully) or if he meant he'd impressively pulled off a move on reaction. Possibly both?

Yeah, we managed to sneak in a few dance routines in here and there, it was pretty sweet.

Blanka was not so sweet. Hnnngh, Blanka. I was lucky not to get perfected, twice.

There's a man sitting next to me on this station platform that kinda looks like UltraDavid.

Aha, yes, I meant to type 'on reaction' because I did the teleport into akuma U2 to punish your fireball on reaction (I think) and I got ridiculously hype about it, because it's rare if ever that I hit akuma's U2.

I was very impressed with how well donut re-synced the dp in time with my rolling whenever one of us missed a move.

Also I think I may have played the lamest rufus ever against your Hawk jiro, nothing but cr.hp and ex jesus kick. And still you won, and I think I dropped rufus' ultra set up more times than is reasonably possible.

Ah that! Thought you busted out moves like that all the time you made it look easy. Random select Hawk was awful - did he win? I think I'm doing something wrong with his SPD I don't think I landed a single one (maybe an EX?). I felt outclassed in the lobby to be honest, random select is not kind to my meagre skills.

Yes, you took it in the last round. It ran really close! And I was deliberately staying the hell away from hawk because I think a lot of what rufus does can easily be punished by spd. Hawk hits hard enough that he doesn't really need to spd people though, if he can kick them a bit, which you did perfectly well.

Also your bipson beat my seth quite convincingly at the end, don't forget.

I may be on later, although I've been quite fond of actually practicing recently, doing execution drills and matchup practice rather than just jumping online. Also playing sober. My pretence of being happily mediocre is slipping a bit.

Cody is all about mp. Press it more.

Duly noted, ta. Hope your bathroom's OK!

I really shouldn't be so salty considering over about ten matches lots of them were A-ranked and three were top-10 for their character. I almost took a round off one of them, a Guy player, until he completely figured me out. Might try some Cammy if I'm back this evening, she's fun.

Bathroom issue is not as woeful as first seemed, thank goodness, even got a shower afterwards, so not a disaster.

Also I watched some of toryuken top 8 and I have to say I was really impressed with Hegg (Dieminion). He got totally blown up by justin's adon a little while ago, I forget where, but he really seems to have done some homework on the matchup and adapted really well, especially considering justin uses adon specifically to counter-pick guile. Also that sim vs viper was crazy. Turns out wolfkrone is still good at pressing a million buttons on stick as well as pad.

Awesome - I'm going to watch the fuck out of that when I get some spare time.

I was in London today! Made the most of it and had a large burrito (Tomato rice, black beans, peppers, pork, sour cream, guacamole, mild sauce). 8/10. Should probably have gone for lime rice and medium sauce but didn't want to risk stinking out the office too much.

From Tortilla in Angel.

Man, I almost like Meat Liquor. Really good food, but fuck the aggressively awful decor and the waiting. I mean, it's cool you get the food for a more reasonable price and all, but I would rather pay the £2-3 extra for an equivalent elsewhere and not wait. Also they forgot our order of deep fried pickles.

I need to go to Bukowski grill; I hear the chips are triple cooked and fried with beef dripping.

I like how the wait staff there is entirely sexily dishevelled girls from shoreditch who are all fucking awful at waiting tables and are generally hungover. Burgers are super at least. Give meat market a try perhaps, much less in your face about how edgy and cool it is.

Have you been to hawksmoor yet? Because sweet holy Jesus it us the best.

And I've heard v good things about bukowski. Also the pity cue co allegedly does Londons best bbq. I must go.

Yeah, they are awful at waiting tables. After waiting about an hour and a half to get in, they actually forgot all of our order until we reminded them like half an hour later. And even then they missed the fried pickles. Tried to do that awful thing where you try and blag free shit by publicly complaining on twitter, but no dice.

I live within walking distance of Hawksmoor. I am doing that this weekend! May even... Lunch?!?!

Oh yeah you're near the spitalfields one aren't you? I don't think they do the breakfast menu there, which I really want to try, but yeah it's great for any meal. The quality of the steak was incredible. They also do one of the best burgers in the city, and the triple cooked chips are heartbreakingly awesome. And, on Mondays, they let you bring your own booze. Which is delicious.

God I need to go boozing down that way again soon. I haven't been to calloh callay or 69 colebrooke for far too long.
