Some amazing choreography on show last night! I like to think it started with Fuerte vs Guy in the corner, dashing under guacamole then jumping over my slide; rinse, repeat. Focus taunt and laughs with Sagat and Bipson were best, though.

I can also confirm that rushdown Dhalsim was a thing that happened.

Had a really fun and 99% lag free session with JLM last night. Discovered some super high level Ken tech - EX fireball has enough invincibility to withstand a Bipson EX Psycho Crushaaaaaaa. In addition to that, very fun games were had. Especially getting on that X Tekken tip with Kenny's EX Tatsus.

I think yesterday was the most I've laughed whilst playing this game. First due to mildly inebriated fighter with Imp, who was playing by Cross Tekken rules and having far too much success. Also we had a thing where Ken did EX fireball right nex to Bison's EX Psycho Crusher and they passed clean through each other. I had no idea Ken's EX fireball gave him so many invincibilities!

Then there were lots o fun games with Alistarr. Ran quite a few games of Evil Ryu vs Rufus, and I got steadily worse at the game as it went on, coincidentally (??) as I got steadily more sober. It would appear that my execution improves when I've been drinking Arak and gets worse when I stop. At the beginning I could do fireball FADC combos and step kick combos and fancy extended combos into ultra. By the end I was getting uppercut - > FADC - > teleport.

However, the real fun began when the suggestion of going back to Vanilla was floated in jest. Then we switched to Vanilla. Yoga Sniper Seth, short hopping with Zangief and taking 50% life with jump roundhouse into EX snake strikes. I also played a match as flowchart Ken for authenticity. Jump back, fireball, jump roundhouse into sweep, jab DP into fierce DP and mashing like crazy any time I wasn't on the offense. Those were the days. It was then discovered that Vanilla Rufus mirrors might just be the finest match up the SF4 series has to offer. The most tense and cagey matches, wringing every ounce of potential from Rufus' very limited footsies tools because any poorly chosen jump can lead to an EX snake strike and 40% life, and every EX Messiah kick causes major bloodshed. Sooo good. This has to be a side game at Heggfighter.

Raked is still very very hard on this, but I got a couple of narrow wins with Cody and a few rounds off good players. It's nice when you don't get combo'd for 30 seconds every time you make a mistake.

Lovely Seth tech there, I do hope you where making lots of noise with your stick whilst doing that to make it the true Poongko experience :)

I've not had much time for fighting games as I have been dabbling with Akai Katana and real life stuff, but I did managed a megre two games with Elf the other day.

Ranked was quiet as usual, but I did get matched up with a 600BP Ryu player who absolutely bodied me into next week. I was just appalling, getting hit with wake up DPs being the worst of my crimes and generally being out played.

So I went back to arcade to wait for another challenger and I was about to switch off when up popped the same Ryu player again. Hmm I thought this isn't going to end well but a beating is a learning experience. SO I put my best pink wresting tights on and entered the ring.

And for once in my life I had learnt from my previous two rounds, so I blocked the wakeup DPs and concentrated on safe punishes, avoided his crazy Focus Attacks and generally played a safe pressure game with plenty of jabs and shower kicks until I had meter and could EX HB dash and mix it up a bit more.

Took him in two rounds in the end and felt pleased with myself not because I played with any sort of style but because a) I find shotos quite tricky with Elf and b) because I had for once learnt from a defeat and figured out what to do rather than sticking blindly to my usual play.

There endeth my tale from the bottom tier.

I just spent an hour and a half in ranked and good god I'm terrible against the endless streams of Ryu :( the only other characters I faced was one chaps Akuma who we had some close battle but I lost them all :(

There where two highlights in an otherwise bad evening I managed to beat a 2500+BP Deejay and a Seth, but Ryu is as ever my eternal nemesis gah.

If you do want to fight the bottom of bottom tiered Elf's give me a shout .

GGs Goemon!

Appreciated the chance to give my secret new character  a work out against your Makoto. Lots of nice adapting and baiting and other fun stuff you get when you run the same match up a few times in a row. I had to come up with a bootleg solution to punish back dashes because I still don't have the knowledge yet but it seemed to work quite well.

Dee Jay vs Evil Ryu also required me to switch it up and start using neutral jump fierce to anti-air because your dive kick stuffs my normal anti-airs and trades surprisingly favourably with EX up kicks.

Sakura vs Abel was just me being obnoxious and going crazy with BUTTONS because you have no meterless reversal and Sakura gets huge damage off a neutral jump to punish a whiffed TT. Frame traps, ambiguous cross up/empty jump low set ups and cheeky resets all day. I still love playing Sakura but I must admit the standing jab pressure feels a bit dirty and Cross Tekkeny now.

Having had the game for over a year, I finally landed my first uppercut fadc ultra online, against plopboy. Probably should have spent more time in training mode. Sorry for continuing you Ryu does ploppy, bit the last two were random select at least! Much fun games overall. Your elf is quite a handful up close. You're loads better with wakeup pressure than when I last played you. Good man.

Ryu woes. Stupid phone keyboard. And you bummed my gouken haha. No idea what to do with him.

Oh don't worry about the Ryu woes, I really need the practice and you are too kind about my Elf :)

The dp fadc into ultra was lovely, I'm still trying to get close HK into Guacamole down, I can do it but I always seem to fluff it in matches :( but practice is best so I'll get there.

Anyway bedtime now :)
