Ultra Street Fighter IV

Yes, GGs indeed.

Played some endless battle afterwards against a Honda player called Tigernorm. He has 2700PP and 7,000PP, and is a good example of why a ranked one match setting isn't the best indicator of skill.

He just does things. All the time, constantly does things. If he's waking up or being reset from an air to air he will butt slam, ochio, headbutt, EX headbutt, ultra, throw or press something. He never blocks. Ever. He also cannot be conditioned to stop doing these things. This meant that for the first few games I got killed, because when Honda is going buck wild and you're expecting him to play Streetfighter you eat a LOT of damage. When I thought I'd persuaded him to stop he kept doing it and I got hit for giving him too much credit. I can totally see why he wins ranked matches doing that, but once figured out I was perfecting him with Sakura. He must have left behind a long string of angry opponents in ranked.

Jellum, GGs until my flatmate came home, turned on netflix, and then reset the router as it was 'running slow'. Might be back on late tonight.

*something about game-breaking resets*

I should really stop reading this thread when I have no means of streetfighting at present. Also happy birthdays Jiro and Camel. :)

Who is Singho? I keep forgetting who is who.

Enters lobbies of fun and jollity and love, doesn't use his headset, silently DESTROYS EVERYONE and sucks away all the happiness from the world lobby.

(massive wink smileys because he's awesome really ;) )

Hello Jiro and joeplus, thanks for the games, I dropped out when I saw joeplus had gone to red bar for me and everything I was doing against jiro was coming out about a half second after I pressed the button. Not that my fat balrog would have stood a chance in a lag free environment, but I might at least have been able to chain his jabs sometimes.

I messed about with him on ranked and why didn't I play as him before? far standing jab into sweep is a delight, and his hit confirms are so lenient. I just need to spend forever getting the ex uppercut down to donut-esque levels and maybe learning when to bloody well use kicks with his ultra.

Or just give up and play sfxt on thursday.

Marvel!

Hello Haggar, I just saw your message - I went to bed to get an early night. I failed.

Rog's kick Ultra is useful as anti air, and as a follow up to headbutt (even on a trade). It's also been known to trick opponents into jumping if they're down to chippable health and don't have many options to counter it. Oh, and Gief Lariats.

Question - can I mash a counter Ultra before the last hit of Cody's U2 on block? It seems like there's enough room to so something, but everytime I try I fail spectacularly.

Yie Ar Kung Fu!

Cheers to joeplus, Haggar, Donut, MrEPotato and Pockets for all the games tonight, had some really good ones. I was shocked when Donut went off for an early night about 11pm but not surprised when he turned up throwing stones at the window of the lobby me and Joeplus had going at about 1am. Night!

Word to everyone this evening, been away all weekend throwing away old possessions but I'm straight back in there with my deeply flawed Cody. Also I've never played Dan, whichever of you I beat you got trolled by the Dan advice in this thread.

Also I didn't realise Cody was in SFxT so I've changed my mind and I'm gonna order it with my amazon voucher. Let's see if we can't do something about my boredom of getting humiliated in ranked.

I'm really loving this on 3DS. It reminds me of the SF Alpha/Zero games, which were probably the last ones I really played - back on PSone!

Does anyone like using Fei Long? I think he's brilliant to use.

What are the differences between Super SFIV and the Arcade Edition?

Fei Long is probably one of the strongest characters in the game. I love him; but back before AE there were a lot of boring high-level-but-exactly-the-same Fei Long players around and people fell a bit out of love with him. He's still excellent though.

Arcade Edition adds four extra characters and smoothes the balance between the characters to make things a bit fairer by giving characters' existing moves little tweaks. It also made Dan much, much better, and that's worth entry price for me.

2012 is now maybe more balanced than super, because people like dee jay, makoto, Daniel, Tiny Hawk, Hakan,Cody, Gouken and Juri all got buffed right up, and nobody really got nerfed that didn't need it. Though there was some silly mid-tier tinkering (vega, rose) stuff is generally a lot better.

I got Yunned a few times, but for me it was mostly a rubbish version because so many other characters disappeared from tournaments and it made them a lot less fun as a result. Also it left Seth, Viper and Fei a bit too strong because they didn't get nerfed.

2012 so far looks to be as well balanced as Super if not better. I think Seth and Viper are the top two characters, based mostly on how they're designed. I think it's quite telling that the only non-Japanese players who have given Japan's finest trouble of late have been using those two, because you don't have to outplay the opponent at Streetfighter to win with them.

They're not unbeatable though, and the most important thing is that nobody's rubbish. A couple of characters emerging as being very strong is near unavoidable in a fighting game, but to have no useless characters in a game with 39 is a real achievment. And yes, being able to enjoy all the amazing new Gouken buffs without getting your face dive kicked in is very welcome. I knocked Goemon's Oni out of an air dash with a fierce fireball and Denjined from far far away yesterday. Been wanting to land that in a match since I saw Infiltration do it.

Yeah, it's cool when you finally hit something you've been wanting to for ages. I've also been using ultra 2 with hawk lately, mainly against donut's wildly airborne seth, and have had some moderate success with it, having not managed to land it in a match for ages beforehand. It's fun when ass tier becomes slightly-less-ass-tier.

Denjin is also good for disgusting chip setups. So delightfully lame.

AE put me off playing for a while and I haven't been back much since. Mainly because Yuns were rife and I usually play as Dhalsim and that is the worst match-up since Flavor Flav started dating Brigitte Nielsen.

Thanks to joeplus for the games. I'm getting better the more I play people but still have no combos. Its a lovely game this and I'm a bit gutted that I've left it so late, have no time to really get better and cant but SxT for money and principle reasons.

If anyone sees me online playing something else drop me a message. Happy to be punched in the mouth a little bit if I'm online.

Bugger, looks like I'll have to work extra hard at annoying you with Dan then.

Sorry I missed your fight request yesterday, I was already cooking dinner and someone else was just playing Arcade Mode on my XBL Account. Would love to get some rounds in tonight but I'm working late until *unknown* O'Clock. If I get home at a sane hour I'll be on, otherwise I'll probably be hopping around tomorrow after work/before radio show, and likewise Thursday & Friday unless some sort of social occasion throws itself up.

On a related note:

I've really enjoyed the various bouts I've had with forumites over the past week or so. Win or Lose it's been a fun time and easily the best time I've had with an online game since... I don't know, probably Unreal Tournament 2004.

I too buckled and ordered SFxT, especially as GF wants to play it too (she loves both SF and Tekken), but I don't see it dragging me away from SSF4AE totally. Different horses for different courses.

An old adversary. Famous for:

a) Dry Dhalsim.

b) Horrible 3S Oro that gives me nightmares.

c) Laggy connection.

He doesn't post here a great deal, but now I've posted that I expect he'll show his face to slag me off :P

I don't like you fatty.

Had some nice games with greebo tonight, and a lovely man called realathlete who used Dan and dressed everyone else in pink.

Then I lamed the bell out of ranked with balrog who it turns out I love. The hell did I not play him properly before.

That realathlete was a pretty tough bastard (for me at least). Managed to claw back a single round against him after you left (My Dan against his Seth of all people) then paid for it in spades. Really wasn't feeling SF tonight, I blame the too damned long working day. Hopefully tomorrow will be a saner 10 hours and I can get in a couple of hours in the early evening.

Were you around for the Dan vs. Dan taunt-off?
