Ultra Street Fighter IV

Stick with the stick (heh): I got one after playing SF games on a pad for years and adjusted straight away. It's also 10x more satisfying and you know it.

Edit: yeah also you do have to get AE really but it's cheap.

Oof. Final Round XV Top 8 in SSFIV (I love the fact I have to specify which game in this thread) was pretty goddamn excellent.

Wolfkrone is just so on his game it's unbelievable, just being able to control Justin like that is unheard of.

Well, the reason I want to learn how to use one is because everyone worth their salt in the community uses one, and people keep saying that it allows way more precision, etc. Ironically, for me, the opposite is true, but again, I'll just put that down to inexperience.

There are some superb pad players, from what little I know.

Just play with whatever you feel most comfortable. It's not worth feeling hamstrung before you even get to doing fancy things. I'll try and get on this week before everyone buggers off to AcT.

Yeah, he never really looked like he stood a chance. Marvel was pretty good too.

Mostly because 'they' lost at 'their' game again....

ok ill stop being a whiney cunt now tnx again smile.png

I'd say it's worth it if you put the time in to it. I benefited more from the button layout of a stick more than the stick itself. Street Fighter 4 can be played to a decent level on the standard 360 pad anyway; one guy I know, BigFool, is an amazing Gen player and he uses a standard wired 360 pad with default controls, and the anologue stick as well. Madness.

Changing from pad to stick was difficult for me, as I'd begun to feel a lot more confident at the game and going back to conscious thought about my motions, and even then getting them wrong, was really frustrating. It did take me months to get near the level I was at before, but I'm now comfortably beyond that. Charge characters are definitely easier, and Blanka/Honda/Gen's rapid punch specials are much easier with a nice line of buttons to piano accross. I also find it much better for moves which require a bit of precision, like high jump cancelling one of viper's normals into an instant air burning kick.

And yeah, there's a lot less folk online playing old Super (Which saddens me as I'm only about six characters away from getting everyone to B rank), but Arcade Edition is only £12 or so online. And apart from the extra characters it's worth it for the extra opponents you'll get and the fact the balance changes made the entire game a lot more fun all round. Especially when using Makoto and Dee Jay.

Also, Street Fighter is excellent.

Happy Birthday Jiroczech and maybe Camel too I think!

Thank you sir. Just so you know, now I'm 40, I won't be visiting this internet site about children's games any more. I have taken up wine tasting and will focus on that instead. Wearing slacks. Good day.

Thanks fighting men! I'm 43 goddamit. I'd like to think I'm the George Clooney of this thread with all the "is he or isn't he" mystique that implies.

I bought myself new Sanwa buttons for the TE as a present to myself cos I didn't like the Semitsus I've had in there for a year. Ordered on Friday and they arrived the next day - big up www.gremlinsolutions.co.uk for that.

I'm super-excited about Street Fighter Cross Tekken coming out this week. It's like my birthday!

Happy birthday Jiro. I too have just replaced my TE stick and buttons. My TE is now all oranged up and my sweaty brawlstick now contains the old TE sanwa bits, so I'm all set for Gem Punching Mans Fighter.

Happy birthday to you too, dear Camel! Yeah, I will replace the stick later. I don't really like the Semitsu stick and my old Sanwa stick is buggered. I guess I now have enough spares to build a custom stick if I cannibalise one of my fightpads and pick up some bits and pieces - chances of me doing that are slim to none.
