I don't really understand how vega is A-tier? He's been net-nerfed since super (U2 1 frame slower, less frame advangate on block on cosmic heel), has some horrendous matchups (rufus, twins, seth, chun) and is free to rushdown. I guess he must just play some really strong vegas.

Also obviously there's no high-level hakans, but he's never going to be ass-tier in a year or two when people figure him out. Bison and akuma seem low too?

Also since he's a seth player I'm going to assume that this is more a 'matchups which give seth the shits' kind of tier list. Which maybe explains Adon.

I like how big the middle tier is in each tier list that comes out. It's a testament to this version being very well balanced indeed. I agree with Arturo's assessment that there are ten or so characters who can win tournaments, and then a lower/middle tier who can all compete but may require a second character for their worst match ups, do the same job as another character but not quite as well, or will rank higher or lower than othwe characters based on how they fare against the aforementioned top ten.

I'd say that's about the best balance you could possibly hope for in a game with such a large roster.

As for Kazunoko's list specifically, wirth Blanka I still think there aren't enough world class Blanka users out there, and the few that do aren't winning anything so I can't disagree with his placement. He has decent mix ups but if you're a top player you've seen them all by now, he has very limited comeback factor, he is free against a lot of characters' rushdown, he has terrible escape options, some almost unwinnable match ups and if you want to play outright lame turtle Blanka you might as well just pick Bison or Honda who do it better. Against great players who know the match up I think Blanka is one of the weaker characters in the game for sure.

Vega seems very high, and again is a character who needs more amazing players using him. You have to be so, so good to get anywhere in tournament with him. He has some of the very best normals in the game, does good damage and has decent mix ups, but his defense is beyond shit and there are some match ups where there are gaping holes in his set of options that make them hell for him. I think his single best asset is that four frame crouching medium punch which allows him to punish the unpunishable with Cr.MP into EX FBA. That actually makes him a problem for Fei Long and other particularly strong characters, so maybe that has something to do with Kazunoko's assessment.

Hakan has some deadly mixups and stuff, and being oiled from the start surely elevates him above D? Dan shouldn't be below Hawk either. Also, considering how mad everyone got about the Cammy nerfs it's wild seeing her up there.

I only play A tier, which saddens me.

Also Haggar, yes, it's the same Paddy. He goes into a lot of rages. Also, his nickname in School was Paddy Bum Sweat and he didn't like that one bit. He raged about it.

True fact: He's called that because a man sat on his head while he was doing bench presses at the boxing gym in second year. The man who sat on his head is now the WBO lightweight champion. Which is a boxing thing.

Also, we knew another guy who once wore two-stripe non-addidas jogging bottoms to PE in first year and never wore them again because everyone called him Johnny two-stripe. We met him just before christmas last year and everyone was still calling him Johnny Two-stripe. He's 31.

School is excellent.

And och aye a stookie aye.

Hakan just needs somebody to prove it. The information is all there, Wildcat, Infiltration and others have shown people that it works in online matches, in exhibitions and in tutorial videos. All it needs is someone to pull it out in tournament and make top 8 with him at any major and he won't be bottom tier any more. Problem is nobody seems willing to do it because he's still very few people's main character. I think Wildcat would have had the best shot but he doesn't go to any tournaments at all.

Cammy is an absolute monster. I can understand why people got hysterical about TK CS being removed (I thought it was an absurd nerf too), but all those tweaks to her normals and the new frame traps she got more than make up for it. She was A-tier in Super and she's A-tier in 2012 just for slightly different reasons. If she still had TK cannon strike as well as what she has now I think she'd be totally unfair.

Also the whole 'S-tier' nonsense really pisses me off. It's so silly, since everything's relative. Just have A be the best and then work from there. When you get things like S+ tier I just want to fall over and weep at the stupidity. This kind of thinking is how we ended up with A** GCSE's, after all.

Yeah, "S" only really applies if there is one character or a very very select few who are just streets ahead of the rest of the cast, to the point where picking anyone else and expecting to beat them is suicide, or they have properties/abilities that defy the game's own system like Akuma in Super Turbo. Essentially characters who should be either tournament banned or soft-banned. Yun in AE was pushing that boundary and was seemingly designed as such, but yeah, if you're just listing who you think your top five are then I think "S" is pretty stupid.

Oh, oh, and also I knew a guy called chris stillwell who once, at scouts, decided to shin up the flagpole and then slide down it. Only he slid (wince ready) crotch first onto the little flag hook thing, which ripped open his trous and scrotum and left various bits of piping hanging out.

And until at lewast 6th form he was called stilly-stilly-got-no-willy.

I like 'S' Rank. I mean, I played a lot of Mega Man Zero on GBA and Devil May Cry in my early teens going for S ranks. Also, I like it as a verb meaning 'to excel', e.g. "Whoah, I totally S-ranked that shit yo!" Okay, I've never said that in my life, but it's never too late to start.

I like it more than "God Tier" anyway.

Hey, I'll play some Marvel sometime. I've got the Vita version now, which means I spend my commute dive-kick-ABCing into Swiss Cheese and wishing I had a 3G signal on the train so I could look up Wolverine's OTG.

All of which means I am now maybe 17 times better at Marvel than I used to be.

I used "swell" to further date myself, FYI.

Hey, Camel, sit on it.

haha

Hey, I'm even older than you, remember.

I got the bus into work this morning with one of our contractors who told me I don't look any older than 30. He is officially my new best friend.

I'm actually turning 40 on Monday. I'm gutted that SFxT isn't out until Friday. Having done my weird Belgium trip to celebrate, and have something planned by my gf on Sunday to look forward to, I've got the Monday off with absolutely no plans whatsoever and will probably spend the day fighting mans with my big stick.

Camel, when are we Marvel-ing again good sir?

Soon!

Sorry, have been away and since being back have been too busy/knackered to play a single fighting game. I have only just got round to adding ALI5T4RR so will definitely be on for some Marvel soon, but probably not before next week.

All of this means I'll be just as useless as the last time we played, JLM :(

Fatties from the lobby last night. Sorry for not sticking around, the wait for games is too long when micless. I only get the occasional extra loud whelp through the speakers so it's not even like being a silent eavesdropper.

My ragged attention span is even pushed to the limit in three man lobbies these days.

I might try to DIY my TE stick to fix the stupid mic hole.

I got 1337 before but forgot after a lengthy SF hiatus and inadvertently played ranked ruining everything.

I have now switched on my stats to appear on the title screen to ensure I do not make the same mistake again.

I am 30.
