Ultra Street Fighter IV

JLM

Recommended Posts

Just watched this video about how the Street Fighter film came about. It's not as detailed or interesting/funny as the Red Letter Media Star Wars reviews or anything but worth a watch nonetheless I think. I particularly liked the highlighting of Raul Julia rolling his eyes while delivering his own dialogue

Shows how observant I am with a play time of over 79 hours

79, is that all!? Joffo did more than that on the first day.

Was playing in ranked the other night with evil roo. I did jHK, crMK, Fireball, FADC, stHP, stomp, MP, LK Tatsu, DP, FADC...And then fucked the Ultra to kill the guy as I had to dash away as opposed to dash forward. I then took a wakeup ultra to the face and lost the game :(

was gutted

Wasn't it the opposite? That it looks like a boy because of bandages covering where her feminine qualities should be? I can't see the image in work so I dunno if that's the same one.

Battle Planner Taisaku Okada says that Abel was intended to convey the idea that the weak could defeat the strong, and was thusly conceived as "A small Judo character, who could be mistaken for a girl."

I dunno about "mistaken," that just looks like a girl to me. Either way, even a trap or reverse-trap character would still have been more interesting than the Abel we actually ended up with.'

With Ibuki in particular, and sometimes Makoto, if I dash just as the opponent crosses over me, the backdash auto-corrects and I dash in the opposite direction. Still a forward dash as intended, but in the opposite direction completely. That really annoys me.

Back when I was obsessed with 3S I was always trying to do Ibuki's dashes with the double-tap motion which often ended up with me running into a fist or accidentally parrying stuff. At least SF4 lets me do QCF+HK without worrying about such calamities... :P

Ah, I thought it was the other way around. Pardon me.

I think this, Goldeneye, Link to the Past and maybe Mario World as well are games I'd love to see in-depth "making of" features on; so obsessed with them all of them I was that I'd like to see every wee subtle change along the way.

I managed to play Mr JLM and his Zangief last night! That made be happy. They weren't the smoothest of matches, but they were mostly fluid with the occasional biiig spike in lag. I'm pretty sure he would have totally destroyed me if it weren't for me reading all the reports from himself and his victims on here the past few weeks. He had me cornered and healthless on my wakeup at the end of a round and I had the meter to KRK FADC, and definitely would have risked it if I didn't know with absolute certainty he was going to Blizzard, so I did wakeup taunt instead, and remained smugly proud of myself. He very, very nearly got away though; directed the blizzard back to the opposite side of the screen; how soon do you have to switch that up? Did you realise during the ultra flash it was going to whiff and start holding back? Or did you commit to retreat before? Is the retreat hitbox still large enough to catch any corner wakeup nonsense anyway?

Also, I was totally kicking myself when I fell for the close.mp > SPD trick. I spent the entire match waiting on it! Haha, It's such a great trick though, because on the odd impact it has on the rhthym of the block string. You had a total read on my backdash fetishism too. I got smacked in the grassy ass by so many bright green hands. It's pretty much my entire game as Dan; Backdash > EX.Dankicks is far too fast to react to, humans.

I'm sad I didn't manage much in the way of flashy FADC stuff against you; too much of The Fear because of Lariat and SPD (though j.HP beat Lariat cleaner than I expected on occasion). And I ate that big, delicious perfect too, haha!

Anyway: 1 - 1. :eyebrows:

EDIT: I'd just like to state that I don't feel that eyebrow raising emoticon is representative of my character.

Yes, GGs! How were we allowed to play? I don't understand but I am very pleased.

You can pull the Blizzard back just after the flash if you see that they're not getting grabbed and it remains quite controllable. Sometimes if I think they're going for a cross up on my wake up I'll go straight up with it and then shift from side to side to have a better shot at catching them. In that match though I started to pull back almost as soon as I'd done it because I second guessed myself just after committing to doing it. Bad read, and one I only got away with because you wouldn't have expected me to bail to almost full screen.

That kind of bad call is usually more frustrating to me than when I get the correct read and don't get the Blizzard to come out, because I still take some consolation from the fact that it would have worked. It is particularly shit when that happens near the corner though, because I get EX bear grab by mistake and the neutral jump I intended to grab can then punish me pretty severely, which is what happened at the end of game one. More lab work needed for sure.

I have a couple more tricks up my sleeve that I haven't been able to use in a match yet, and this time I'll make a point of not mentioning what they are on here until I hit one of them in a lobby. That Perfect was immensely satisfying. As I was saying to imp the other day, those rounds where you make the right call three or four times in a row and just maul them to bits is what keeps you going when you've just had a run of losing by time out to Akuma.

I played quite a few ranked matches last night also, including five games against a very solid Akuma player called Super Guerilla. He won them all, which is what I'd expect in that match up, but I got a bit closer each time and felt like I was learning. He also sent me a message telling me about a couple of things I was letting him get away with and how to punish them. Nice chap.

I find myself in london today with the option of either getting a train home soon or waiting until about 2 for one. So in the unlikely event that one of you chaps is around and fancies some lunchtime fightings either in an arcade or elsewhere, either text or pm soon with your phone number, and I'll check back in a little while.

I'm going to Hyper Japan at Earl's Court today, which I imagine is going to be pretty terrible and full of sweaty teenagers, but my gf wants to go. Hopefully I will be around later this evening for some kind of online punching mans action. Might be Marvel though.

Also, having just got back from the Binche carnival in Belgium, I have decided to start a campaign to try to persuade Capcom to include a 'Gille' as a character in one of their fighting games.

I played this game last night for an hour. I had a really nice time.

After watching those maximillian tutorial vids for SFxT I'm feeling a little...nostalgic, already, about Super. It's really good, you know, and we're all gonna leave it, aren't we? I'm not sure I want to. SFxT looks too complicated.

I just want to stick with 2 hit combos.

I don't think that's the case at all.

I think SFxT will be a very different game and people will find preference in what they want to play.

You think they'll sit side by side? I guess they will, after a time. But for the first few months I can't see there being much of an online presence for Super.

I'm just a bit sad at not getting to play Super much lately, so very busy. And when I finally have time again everyone will be on SFxT.

I just need to shut up and get into it too. Just so much going on in that game, and it took me 2 years to incorporate FADCs into my (very basic SF2-style) game..

I have tiny feet and needed something to show my shoes to scale.

I think I'll be playing SFxT more than AE but then I thought I'd play MvC3 when it was coming out and that never happened. Be a shame if SFxT's launch dilutes the community here.

On a positive spin, it'll mean there's 2 great threads for me to read here every day.
